  1. Cocktails at the upstairs bar/veranda at the Hotel Washington is an absolute must. Overlooks Treasury, White House, and Washington and Lincoln memorials. The best viewage in town.
  2. Now I am hearing that the opening is delayed until next Monday.
  3. There is an Italian Restaurant in Crystal City called Tutto Italiano that makes great pizza and they deliver (I am sure they have a delivery radius, but when I lived in the Rosemont section of Alexandria, they delvered).
  4. Oceanaire does have two private dining rooms. Also, for steak, Sam and Harry's, they have a couple of private dining rooms.
  5. I don't think Generous George's delivers. Neither does Monroe's Trattoria, but they have good pizza and they do have carry-out. Since they are only about 3 minutes from my house, sometime I will call them up, order a pizza, and go down and sit at the bar and have a brewski while waiting for the pizza.
  6. His name is pronounced something like "kay hull."
  7. Is that a canoe paddle you are using to stir the stuff?
  8. Al Dente seems to think that the best crabcakes are to be found in Baltimore. Perhaps he could enlighten as to his favorite spots.
  9. While I have nothing by way of commment to the substance of Frogprince's posting, I would like to offer my best compliments on the form. Edited to add: We need to convince this guy to show up to the next eGDC event. He definitely has something to teach the rest of us.
  10. A member of the staff, Tammy, is a neighbor of mine. If you run into her, leave her a nice tip.
  11. Jenny: What kind of camera di dyou use to take the pictures with? Mark
  12. I understand that it will be opening next week (finally).
  13. For some reason, I thought okra was an essential ingredient for gumbo. I didn't see any in the picture.
  14. I believe Antonelli is the guy who owns the building. He is a large landowner downtown. See what happens when you assume, you make an ass of u and me.
  15. Sutton Place is not gone, they are just changing the name to Balducci's. The stores will still be there.
  16. I don't eat my meatloaf sandwichs cold. I pan fry the slices (in bacon grease of course), then I put them with some cheese and mayo on some sourdough bread and slap them into the magic bags and the toaster.
  17. There is a new restaurant going in on DeSales St. downtown. DeSales is the street that runs next to the Mayflower Hotel off of Conn. Ave. The restaurant is going in right next door to Filene's Basement. It looks to be a high end affair. When I walked past it this afternoon, there were contractors outside polishing the new wood exterior. One of the work permits said "Antonelli" so I surmise that perhaps an Italian restaurant is going in. Looks like a nice bar as well. Does anybody out there know anything about this place?

    Corkscrews

How quickly do you wear them out? Every few months. The pins that hold them together get loose. Either on the boot or on the screw. I've worn out several LaGuioles. The screw breaks off. They're pretty, but not practical for opening lots of bottles. Thanks. Now I don't feel so bad, what with all the corkscrews I've screwed up.
  19. "Nuts, hot nuts, ya get 'em from your peanut man." Or so sayeth Doug Clark.
