  1. I think the leg is the hind leg where the hams come from. The shoulder or front leg is where the butt comes from. It's just as much as a misnomer as a "head butt (or is that butt head)."

    Paprika

Here is another choice quote from the article:
  3. This from the Food Saftey Inspection Service: Retail Cuts of Fresh Pork There are four basic (primal) cuts into which pork is separated: shoulder, loin, side and leg. Shoulder Shoulder Butt, Roast or Steak Blade Steak Boneless Blade Boston Roast Smoked Arm Picnic Smoked Hock Ground Pork for Sausage Side Spare Ribs/Back Ribs Bacon Loin Boneless Whole Loin (Butterfly Chop) Loin Roast Tenderloin Sirloin Roast Country Style Ribs Chops Leg Ham/Fresh or Smoked and Cured
  4. H'mmm. I might have to stop by Costco on the way home from work and look at their butts. Perhaps I should consider smoking butt on Saturday and doing the ribs on Sunday. My smoker is not big enough to accomodate both.
  5. If you are going to consider the hotel angle, look into the Morrison House ( a Relais & Chateaux property (whatever that means)) in Old Town. You could walk to Restaurant Eve, or the hotel has a great restaurnant called Elysium. Thanks mnebergall!! This place completely slipped my mind for some reason. The minute I read your post, I called up and reserved a Deluxe room and then made a reservation at Restaurant Eve. I can't wait!! Thanks everyone for your suggestions! Meet me at the bar and I will buy you and your spouse a beverage.
  6. Al Dente should know, he is a butt man. Also, Safeway has spare ribs on sale this week. I plan on taking a page from the spare ribs/baby back ribs thread and doing up some St. Louis stye on the smoker. For butt, you might try Shoppers Food Warehouse in Potomac yard.
  7. Do you have any idea how secretive that family owned company is?

    Paprika

Here is an interesting letter to the editor in today's Washinigton Post regarding, of all things, paprika.
  10. Fio's. I was a fan of Fio's veal francese, the linguine al pesto, the carbonara, the zupa englese, the tartufo. Don't get me started.
  11. Sorry, it is I who should be more careful with terminology. I was confusing slide-in with drop-in. If you don't get the back-splash, the Blue Stars will be flush with the countertop.
  12. How is this possible? Rice must be the easiest stuff in the word to make. 2 parts water to one part rice, dash of salt, twist of pepper. Bring to boil, cover, reduce heat to lowest possible and cook for 20 minutes. Do not remove cover until ready to eat. Turn off and let sit for 5 minutes. Never fails.
  13. It sure sounds like there is a pocket of us in Del Ray.
  14. Are you one of them "Old Town crackers" that someone referred to above?
  15. But I would not use the chicken preparation. I would look for a recipe for something called "ropa."
  16. That would sort of dry up the market for Shelly's private humidors. Also, I guess they would have to stock up on styrofoam cups and empty soda cans, or buy a bunch of spitoons.
  17. I wonder how a blanket smoking ban would impact establishements that cater to cigar smokers such as Shelly's Back Room?
  18. I hope this birthday shindig is not coming up real soon. I think you need to make reservations a couple of weeks in advance if you want to dine on a weekend. Here is a link to their website.
  19. I'd be interested in your sources of information about the Blue Stars and what you ultimately conclude. Also, be careful of your use of terminology. I don't think Blue Star makes a "slide in" range; their's are free standing.
  20. Cool. I'm thinking of moving to Capitol Hill. Hopefully, you will find a place with a better kitchen.
  21. Hopefully, there is scant evidence in the record to support these BS arguments. I should go back and look at the District Court and Court of Appeals rulings to see if there are any findings of fact with regard to these arguments.
