  1. Here is webpage that has a wonderful vegan chocolate cake that was designed by America's Test Kitchen. It is one of my favorite cakes. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/food/149861_...&searchdiff=476
  2. I make lightly steamed carrots with a hot dressing made of carmelized onions, garlic, lime zest, and lime juice.
  3. I use it the same, but have not used it in Fondant.

    Healthy Frying Oils

You might want to think about using coconut oil which is not hydrogenated and has not colesterol but does have saturated fats in it. In regards to free radical and smoke point. I usually use the smoke point and then drop by 20 degrees to be safe.
  5. My biggest change happened 4 months ago. I moved onto a boat with no kitchen. I now have a microwave and am slowly figuring out where to rearrange eveything so that I can have a (very very small) kitchen.
  6. How did you prepare it. Did you simmer the Lemongrass and galangal in the stock or just add them at the same time as everything else?
  7. I would portion it out. Sorry about not being more clear. I use a food processor. You loss a bit of quality, but if you are under time constrains it is worth it.
  8. Any chance that you could post the recipe for the one with sweet potato?
  9. No I think that the taste and consistency stays high. I would just recommend that if you do this don't make more than you would use up in a few months. Also we sometimes use the kitchen-aid instead of the mortar (you have to love modern equipment)
  10. The classes that I help teach we do 3 dishes from beginning to finish in two hours. That includes making the curry paste. One thing that i would recommend is that if you find a curry paste recipe that you like. Make a large batch and then freeze it.
  11. I have been to teapot many times and this place is really so much better. Teapot tends to be more americanized than I like.
  12. I just tried a newer restaurant in the ID. Vegetasia (5th and King in the old Top Gun). While it is vegetarian, it is definately traditional authentic cantonese. We had the fried bean curd sheets with vegetables, the seaweed deep fried rolls and the Crispy Taro Roll. All that I can saw is Wow. Each dish was great, however if I had to choose one dish it would be the fried bean curd sheets. I had never had a dish using the bean curd sheets in fried form. They picked up the sauce while still being crispy. I am going again tomorrow with one of my co-workers.
  13. I also add some lemon grass with the coconut milk and if possible galangal and limes leaves. Makes a great thai inspired soup. Drizzle a bit of hot chili paste on top and you are ready to go.
  14. So the owner of the boat did a quick change up on me. We ended up only over at Port Orchard and other than a decent sushi place I would report that there really is nothing happening there. I will push for Port Townsend next time. I really want to give a number of the places mentioned a try. But is was a wonderful sail.
  15. Festivities Garden Café is reopening up at Swanson's Nursery on January 2. I am really looking forward to their scones again.
  16. I will remember for the next cruise.
  17. Since we will be sailing over, I would say that Squim is out this time.
  18. I am going to be spending the New Year holiday in Port Angeles and I am wondering if anyone has a favorite or recommendations for the area?
  19. You might want to try the duck in the app. section, but be prepared there is alot of it.
  20. I may be blind, but I didn't see Union listed.
  21. The Black Sheep is nice. It covers that basics that your father will go for and has a number of nicer and more adventerous (well for american style breakfasts). Black Sheep 6815 196TH St SW Ste H Lynnwood, Washington 98036-5074 United States Tel: (425) 697-5997
  22. I would recommend 7 Stars Pepper at 12th and Jackson. Definately try a dish with the Hand-shaved noodle (my favorite is the Dan-Dan Noodles.). I have had many wondeful meals there, and is the most requested when i have friends and family come into town.
  23. Actually Cafe Flora is open until 10 at least according to thier website. To be honest at that hour to fine a place with atmosphere that has veg options is very limited. The one place that I like that is open late (but not big on atmosphere) is the Broadway Grill. They always have veg options and also Vegan. The food is good, and is a great option for late night.
  24. I happen to enojy Cafe Ibex over on MLK just out from Columbia City.
  25. Drove by this weekend, it is definately closed.
