My favorite Veg restaurant in the Vancouver area is Bo Kong (either location).

One of the best vegan maragrines is called earth balance, not transfats and actually tastes good. You might also want to use coconut oil, solid at room temp.

"On the left is what looks like broccoli rabe, and I think it is extremely close to that." This is Gai Lan. Also known as Chinese Broccoli. Very Yummy. "What I am not sure about is the thing in the middle... a sponge gourd, perhaps?" This one is Bitter Melon. I have seen this used in a dish where it is cut into pieces about 2 inches long, hollowed, stuff with meat and then poached.

My mistake was using Basing soda instead on flour for a roux. I now make sure that I label containers.

I have also found the drink/soup/pudding in an almond and black sesame mix. I think it is a nice combination.

I would recommend that you not serve anything to Licorice in it. It causes a substantial raise in blood pressure.

I thought vegan just meant no meat or animal products? Sugar may be bad for you in excess, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't contain meat. So a good tasting cake can be vegan. Are people using the word vegan to mean "healthy" or "natural"? ←
