Belle Epicurean: Seattle's Best Brioche Pastries
LEdlund replied to a topic in Pacific Northwest & Alaska: Dining
They list them as "twice baked croissants" which I've never heard of. The first time I saw them, I assumed it was a way to sell a mistake, but they are there in the case every day. I had lunch there again yesterday. This time I tried the roast beef panini. It's very good, with gruyere, horshradish mayo and nice herbed foccacia. But I think I'll stick with the jambon et fromage from now on. I am totally addicted to it. Yum! Oh, I also brought one of the ham and cheese buns home for hubby, which he heated up for breakfast this morning. It smelled sooooo good and he said keeping it until the next day didn't harm it at all. -
I forget, is this the place that used to be Nonna Maria?

Hello! My family and I will be in Vancouver for a couple of nights, Boxing Day and the 27th. Boxing Day dinner has been set (my parent's choice) and I get to choose where to have dinner on the 27th. As I have a family full of meat and potato eaters, I have perused the board looking for something that would satisfy both them and me and Diner looks like it might fit the bill. I'm curious about a few things and hoping you can help me out. -Have they worked out the kinks in service? (Aging parents and long dinners do not mix). -Will a party of 5 have any problems dining on the 27th? (I've been calling the number listed in this thread but no one answers and the voice mail box is full so I can't leave a message - it made me a tad nervous). -Are they still accepting cash only as payment? I'd love to try this place out but, if it's still to early on, I'll add it to my list for my next visit. Of course, if you have any other suggestions, I'm all ears............. Thanks!

SeaGal, Rockdoggydog and I (and our significant others) went last Friday. It had been a while since I had been and I am happy to report they are still fabulous. It felt like we ordered nearly the entire menu and most everything was way above average. With six people sharing we really got a good sampling of things too. Much easier than with a larger group. My favorites were the pork belly and the chicken liver mousse. I'm looking forward to going again soon.

Belle Epicurean: Seattle's Best Brioche Pastries
LEdlund replied to a topic in Pacific Northwest & Alaska: Dining
Belle Epicurean is dangerously close to my office, I can tell this is going to be a problem. I have eaten lunch there the last two days! I am hooked on their jambon et fromage. The butter they use is so rich and salty and the baguette (which they make) is perfect: flavorful with just the right amount of tooth. -
Le Creuset outlet North of seattle?
LEdlund replied to a topic in Pacific Northwest & Alaska: Cooking & Baking
The bargain room at City Kitchens usually has some Le Creuset in there. Mostly discontinued colors. Also they deeply discount during their sales and the prices are much lower than the outlet stores and TJ Maxx etc. -
No fighting you two or I'm going to have to send you to seperate states I would choose Nishino or Kisaku based on your requirements. Mashiko is just too.......funky for me.

Welcome to eGullet, lgott! I'm curious, did you eat at DB prior to their change in menu that nightscotsman mentions above? I had a copy of the menu faxed to me and wasn't impressed. It really does look heavy on the steak/chops. Based on that, we are leaning towards FIX.

A couple of Seattle eG'ers will be in town having dinner the Friday after Thanksgiving. We have reservations at both Fix and Daniel Boulud and need to decide which to keep and which to cancel. On the one hand, there's those fabulous sounding cocktails and doughnuts at Fix. On the other hand the show on the lake at DB sounds fun. Any advice would be much appreciated.

another Spot fan...but they are gone. I so miss my Spot bagels. I live in Wallingford so it was great to go to the Wallingford Center on Saturday mornings for my bagels. For a while after closing their retail locations they were being sold wholesale into stores....but it's been years since I've seen them.

Best local (SEA) store for table linens?
LEdlund replied to a topic in Pacific Northwest & Alaska: Cooking & Baking
Doh! I totally meant April Cornell when I mentioned Laura Ashley earlier. The April Cornell stores are called La Cachet in Canada. Sorry. -
Best local (SEA) store for table linens?

I think it was called the Tabletop shop and I think it is now closed. -
Best local (SEA) store for table linens?
LEdlund replied to a topic in Pacific Northwest & Alaska: Cooking & Baking
The Bon has a pretty good selection of more traditional tablecloths. The Mrs. Cooks in U Village has a small but interestion selection. Is there still a Laura Ashley store in the area? They have great tablecloths. If there isn't, head to Vancouver. Their stores are called Le Cachet there and it's always one of my required stops. -
My two cents: If you want to spend time with him on the weekend, you should absolutely do that. If you want to meet your friends at Pegu Club for drinks, then you should do that. I'm not sure you can do both at the same time. If it were just the two of you, and you were doing other things in Manhattan on the same outing, I could be persuaded to agree that it might be okay to bring him to Pegu Club. The deal breaker for my sensibilities was that you were meeting friends there and your attention would (should?) be focused on them. Keeping in mind this is coming from the perspective of someone without children and who loves meeting friends for conversation and cocktails! Lauren

When some friends bought a house with a large front porch, I made them a mint julep kit with cups, mint seeds, bourbon etc. It was a blast to put together!

If everyone would tip 20% this problem wouldn't exist

Langley is a bit of a wasteland when it comes to food but there a few places I go to when I am there. One is a greek restaurant near the Star Store. Sorry, I can't remember the name. I had a servicable greek salad and my mother and her friend had some really good mussels. On the street behind the Inn at Langley is a good bakery. I have been told by people from NY that they make the best cannoli found in the Seattle area. Alas, they have been sold out every time I have gone, which leads me to believe that at least it is good cannoli! Also on one of the side streets behind Inn at Langley is a tea/sushi restaurant. I have only had their tea but it's a fun place to check out. In case you were thinking of going to the Captain Whidbey, my parents just took some friends from Texas there and all four diners agreed it was one of the worst meals they have had. My Father is not a "food oriented" person and even he agreed it was bad. Have fun!

I can't remember what brand of toaster oven I have but I use it every day! It is large enough to hold a 9' pie pan and a 11 X 9 casserole. Here are just some of the things I use it for: For baked potatoes, I start them off in the microwave and finish them in the toaster oven. Toasting nuts. Roasting potatoes or vegetables. Warming bread, buns, rolls, tortillas, etc. Re-heating leftover meat (for example when I make steak and eggs for breakfast!) After making up a batch of cookie dough, I will bake off a few at a time in the toaster oven. Oh, and toast! The best part is that I put the plates, bowls, whatever, on the top to warm them while it's in use. I couldn't live without mine.

If true, let's hope Vij is in control of the food and the WG people stick to designing the space... ← Wow! Wow! Wow! Vancouver is so close, couldn't they just work with the person who designed their space there? I love that space! I don't think they need to get WG involved at all. I'll tell them that

I'm pretty picky about pancakes, I like them very thin and soft. I haven't been there in a while but the ones at Palisade were good.

In the May issue of Gourmet, Padma Lakshmi has a great sounding recipe for Warm Peanut Salad. The essay that went with it was very entertaining and heartwarming too.

Penelope Corcoran needs to simmer down
LEdlund replied to a topic in Pacific Northwest & Alaska: Dining
What article are we talking about here? The one where she gives her list of favorite Seattle eateries? If not, where can I find the one that is in response to the readers? -
Wow, that sounds..............................fun I used to spend a lot of time on south Whidbey and we would buy the mussels from a friend of my grandmothers who sold them out of the back of his pickup truck. I'm sure he's no longer there (I swear he was 108 years old even back then). But I bet you can call Penn Cove Shellfish direct to see where you can buy them locally. You should have some great weather this weekend, have a great time. Lauren
