The cocktails at The Sitting Room are fantastic as is the ambiance but not so much in the way of food. They usually offer a bruschetta, a cheese plate, a salad and a soup. It's dark and cozy and romantic (that said, I'm usually in there with my girlfriends - not my husband!). It is quite smoky, in case that is an issue for you. Oh, and yes, Crow does take reservations. I think I mentioned it before but be sure to go at 8 PM or later to miss the pre-show crowd.

Friday the 13th at Brasa, huh? I'll keep my eyes open. I second the suggestions for Crow and The Sitting Room. Both are on Queen Anne and should be walking distance. The cocktails at The Sitting Room and the food and atmosphere at Crow are fabulous. Be sure to go to Crow a little later in the evening to avoid the "show" crowd. Can't speak to Volterra as I haven't been but, if you do go, be sure to check out Portalis when you are there. It's a small wine bar across the street from Volterra with a great vibe and fun wines to try.

A group of us Seattle eGulleter's had this dish when we were there in February. At that time it was neither oily nor salty. Sorry to hear that your experience differed, as this was one of my favorite and memorable parts of the meal.

I stopped in for a couple of beers last night and am happy to report that they now have a printed bottle list. No descriptions, but at least there is a list. I didn't eat, so I can't speak to the food. I did notice that the frites looked much darker than they did on my first visit. Maybe they have corrected this problem?

Actually, it was............... Since the article was written by Nancy Leson, I assume "yours truly" refers to her. -
I have used Kashi Go Lean Crunch and it was pretty tasty. Tonight I am going to toast some almonds and mix them in with some raspberry honey to use.

I am also one who does not like Cupcake Royale. I thought they were too sweet and dry and did not have strong enough flavors. I subscribe to Sunset so I'm sure I have the March issue at home. I'll look through the stack of magazines that I have to see what they say. I am so behind on my reading

I saw those when we first walked in and made a mental note to come back to them. Unfortunately by the time I did, they were gone. They sound fantastic. Too bad Barking Frog is so far away.

I miss Rattler's Grill on Eastlake (where Azteca is now). Not everything was good there, but they made these chewy, stretchy tortillas right up front where everyone could see them. They served them with tomatillo salsa and orange butter. Yum. The party girl in me misses Tlaquepaque which was under the Alaskan Street viaduct just off Pioneer Square. Before they had a limit on the tequila poppers (tequila mixed with ginger ale which you covered with the palm of your hand, slammed on the bar then drank as a shot) you could have. Arriba, Arriba!

At least Portalis is there to take its place. If you haven't been yet, do. The have a great space and the people/wine/food are fantastic.

Malarkey and I did. It's the smoking section, which we didn't know before we got up there. Which means it is smart to have it upstairs because we couldn't smell the smoke downstairs. That's also where the cigar room is - which I didn't know was a cigar room until Mr. Bill posted. Paul is going to be very excited. He likes to end an evening out with some scotch and a cigar and now we don't have to go to Zig Zag or El Gaucho to do so.

Cash and Carry sells a pretty good selection of syrups.

Does anyone know where Iron Chef is filmed? When coming home fron NY yesterday, we passed Tom Douglas and his family as they were arriving. Were they there to film I wonder.......

It was an endive gratin and it was yummy. I wished they served bread with it to sop up all the cream left in the dish - but the frites worked just as well!

I asked about it at the Roosevelt Trader Joe's a couple of weeks ago and they said they were expecting it by the end of the month.

Maybe they will get rid of the salmon "art"

Eight of us celebrated a birthday at Marjorie a while back. They don't have a private room, but they should be able to set you up in the back of the main dining room. We had a great time. I've also used the private room at Sazerac, which is fun too. I know there was a charge for the room but I can't remember what it was. Happy birthday to Katie.

I live in Seattle but visit SF several times a year. Since I love a good cocktail, I am always in search of them in the city. I love visiting Alberta (although last time I was there, The Orbit Room was closed) and have found some good cocktails in the bar at Fifth Floor. Where do you recommend I go next time I am there? The last time I was there, my friends and I spent a frustrating evening shuttling from bars that were either packed (Red Room/Swill/Vesuvio) or closed (Orbit Room) until we ended up at The Redwood Room which was interesting beautiful and interesting to observe twenty-somethings in action but not a place we could settle in.

How fun, the WOW is from my own hometown! Some friends were visiting earlier this week so I decided to crack open a couple of bottles to taste. I must admit, I got a lot of strange looks as if to say "are you kidding me with this?". I was having a hard time keeping folks attention - but I was able to capture a few comments. Mostly people thought the wine was shallow and not complex. Blackberry and black cherry were the strongest flavors noted and then heat, alcohol and a metallic or sour taste were next. I didn't serve it with any food, so maybe that would have made a difference. Even at $11 a bottle, I think I'll pass on drinking any more of this.

Thanks! That's exactly what I needed.

We did, but our server was someone I was acquainted with.
