  1. Weird, that's the same thing I experience with Kettle Chips! I used to love them but now, if someone opens a bag near me, the only thing I can smell is rancid oil. Now Tim's Sea Salt and Vinegar, that's another story..... I can suck on those all day (yes I know it's weird, but I actually do put them on my tongue until all the salty vinegar is gone)!
  2. Ditto. I'd love to actually meet folks. Mr. and Mrs. Toast Really Nice Matsutakekichigai Sparrowsfall Eden ← I rarely travel to the eastside (do I need to bring my passport?) but it looks like enough "westsiders" are going that we can carpool - so I'd be willing to give it a try
  3. ditto Maple Leaf. No service in Wallingford either. This site looks like it has a comprehensive list of delivery options.
  4. We were just talking about Marjorie at work this morning! I love this place. Donna is such a fantastic host. She makes everyone feel welcome. And who can complain about a place that lets you pick your own music to play on the turntable in the restroom........
  5. I've seen them at the UDist Market, in one of the stands up by the strudel lady, pasta person and bella's buns! ← Perfect! I'll have to pick some up this weekend. Thanks LMF!
  6. I found a recipe for quince syrup that I think would work in a cocktail. All of the other recipes I found were for savory dishes...... For the syrup, you quarter and core two pounds of quince and either process them through a juicer or wrap it in cheesecloth and cook it in 2 cups of water for 30 minutes. If processed it through a juicer, bring 4 cups water and 4 cups sugar to a boil and add the quince juice and 1/4 cup lime juice and cook for 30 minutes. If you steeped the quince in the cheesecloth, after the initial 30 minutes add 2 more cups of water, 2 cups sugar (only half is used in this method, taste and add more as necessary) and cook for another 30 minutes. Remove and squeeze the cheesecloth and add 1/4 cup lime juice. I'm going to have to see when I can get quince in the markets here in Seattle and give it a try.
  7. I think a pre-dinner cocktail is in order....... A couple of Thanksgivings ago I had a cocktail at the W Hotel here in Seattle that I still think about today. It was a quince manhattan that was fantastic. I have no idea how they did the quince puree that went into it, but I'll do a little research and see if I can find out.
  8. I was there on Friday too (LMF, they told us we had just missed you!). We also bought the Cashel, which was fabulous. They had just received a large shipment of Neals Yard cheeses and we tried quite a few. Ended up buying the Coolea. A nice, ripe piece of Tallegio rounded out our purchases. We had stopped at the Dahlia Bakery on our way to the cheese shop and bought a loaf of potato/olive oil bread. Other than being a little soft to stand up to the cheese, the combination of flavors was fantastic. I can tell what my new Friday night routine is going to be! I didn't see many local cheeses and they told me they are working on getting their supply lines set up. They are hoping to get some Quillisascut cheeses in there pretty soon.
  9. Thanks for the recommendations. We ended up going to Family Pancake House and, just as bbqer said, it had good pancakes and is quite a few notches above IHOP. The prime rib and eggs was the favorite at our table.
  10. I love the Maltby Cafe and the only reason we are not going there is due to the horrendous waits on the weekend (over an hour last time I was there!). I can picture the place in Marysville that you are talking about. My dad grew up there, I wonder if he remembers the place.....
  11. I'm meeting my parents for breakfast tomorrow morning and the plan is to meet half way between my home (Seattle) and their home (Stanwood). They have suggested the IHOP in Lynnwood but have indicated they are open to other suggestions. The only place that I can think of so far is Patty's Eggnest. Please, please, please help me think of someplace else.......... I should add that my father is a very picky eater. Strictly meat and potatoes for him. Nothing ethnic, fancy or complicated will suit him. Aren't I lucky? I would say anything between Shoreline and North Everett would work.
  12. Wow - Look at all the half bottles!
  13. I also like the hand shaved noodles at Shanghai Garden. Yum.
  14. Congratulations Batgrrrl and col klink! I can't wait to meet baby klink! Having never been in this situation, I have nothing to suggest. Just wanted to say congrats! Lauren
  15. I've only eaten there once but my husband and I also noticed more "elderly" patrons than you normally see downtown (and by elderly I mean in their 70's). In fact, our waitress pointed to one couple and told us that they have been eating there once a week for years - it was very cute.
  16. My co-worker and her husband get sandwiches from there every Saturday. She says they are fantastic (and she's from NY). She lives near there so she just calls in her order and takes it home. I've never been because everytime I go, the place looks too crowded for my comfort. Next time I'm doing the take out thing.
  17. Yeah, what tighe said!
  18. I'm shocked Kohlrabi is one of my favorite things in the world. Seriously, Iris is adorable. Love those big blue eyes!
  19. Paul and I are definitely going to the Seghesio dinner (it's our favorite winery) and the Julia dinner sounds great too. If anyone is interested in the Seghesio dinner, I'll make a reservation for an eGullet table........
  20. Does Dahlia have their challah all the time?
  21. I can vouch for The Sitting Room as I go there pretty regularly. I love this place. They have great drinks and snacks in a warm and inviting space. Very french. I love it. And it's far enough off the beaten path that you don't run into Key Arena or Seattle Center crowds. I went to The Great Nabob (which is next door to Crow) recently and they had good drinks, kind of quiet though. Maybe because it was a Monday night. Speaking of Crow....do they have a bar? That might be a fun place.
  22. That was a really fun evening last night. I concur that the size of the items was very small but, for the most part, I thought the meal was very good. The beets in the salad were fantastic and the fig tarte was really earthy and delicious. I thought the rockfish was just so-so. The grape leaves kind of turned me off. Mine were almost burnt tasting. But the wine......yum. I wish we could have tried the viognier before they ran out but the cab sure made up for it. And the seeing everyone again and meeting little ms foodie and her husband was great. Going to Zig Zag was a perfect way to end the evening (must drink lots of water today!). I'm looking forward to our next function.
  23. You're absolutely right. I forgot that 18/19 year olds are also teenagers. Mea Culpa.
  24. You haven't hung out with many teenage girls, have you
  25. I'm hooked on Great Harvest Breads. Their whole wheat and their country french are really good.
