I might have purchased a dove for six dollars back in the day. It was not a sober decision. It was the type of place where you pick out your poultry and they slaughter it for you but I just wanted a dove. I named it Dovely Lovely. They put it in a box with feed. I took it to a bar on a busy Friday night. It caused quite the distraction.
Even in my inebriated state, once we went back to my then boyfriends place and he tried to insist it could live in his garage I refused. I tried to let it go but it didn’t move very far.
Definitely NOT my best decision or moment but yea, for a few hours I was the somewhat abashed owner of a dove.
My twenties are full of crazy stories.
I have never eaten dove although yours look delicious Shelby.

A bartender last night told me there’s a glass shortage; they’re not getting certain Mexican liquors and beers despite placing orders. It’s always something.

I’m having issues with instacart. The app claims to deliver within in 2 hours or so but when I check out forget it. It’s at minimum best a days wait. I’m wondering if this is a result of the Delta variant.

I tend to tip in cash during the holidays. While I could absolutely give the people I tip (mail person, garbage people, landscapers etc) with a homemade lasagna, I am unaware of their allergies and preferences and you can’t go wrong with cash.

And they have a surcharge if the product is heavy. Like a big bottle of soda.
I’ve used Instacart for years. Once I get an alert the my shopper has started I am firm with the chat feature and clear about replacements I am willing to accept. I also tip over 20%.
The heavy bag fee sucks but that is a big reason that motivates me to use them. Obviously I am fairly lazy!

Pasta (or rice, wheat, etc.) with beans is indeed a complete protein.
There are many pasta and legume dishes - some heavy (which can be a delight in winter), some light.
Pasta e fagioli and pasta e ceci are often among the heavier.
Ciceri e tria and fagioli e cozze are somewhere in the middle.
And brown/navy beans with pesto sauce is quite common and fairly light. Same goes for pasta salads. Generally, chilled legumes with some bright acidity can be quite refreshing.
Thanks for the information. I am not a big fan of beans and only like certain types. But I’m also not a huge fan of animal proteins in pasta. It just makes for a very heavy meal imo.- 1

Legit question— I know beans are a form of protein but they act as a carb to me. I can’t imagine eating pasta with beans. It seems like it would be a very heavy dish. Am I mistaken?

I’m guessing that they can use up their plastic container collection first then adhere to the new laws. Either way they have to be disposed of. What do you think?

@liamsaunt is husband’s brother single? 😂 Amazing food as always. I miss dining out mainly because I cannot shuck oysters.

Thanks! But unfortunately I live in Northern NJ.
My dinner tonight was shredded romaine lettuce with chicken, avocado, fresh corn, tomatoes and avocado. Essentially a chopped salad.

@Kim Shook I totally remember those turnovers! We’d have them for dessert in the 1980s and early 90s because my mom made two dinners most evenings due to my father’s poultry allergy. Can you tell me more about the roasted corn?

Fast forward. Fall 2019. I tried Misfits and a local grass fed meat supplier, WaldenFoods. Just looking for local and an easy straight from warehouse, non-grocery traditional shopping. Grocery shopping was becoming difficult. Especially winter months. NYC has had FreshDirect for 15 years. Lock down covid, no-go. Every delivery was overwhelmed.
Pre-covid we considered canceling both Misfits and Walden, but kept them. Good thing as both have been stellar in delivery. Especially Baldor that is wholesale to restaurants...they announced early lock-down, NYTimes, they would delivery to homes. They have been stellar in over-night delivery and great pricing. Though good pasta may be a case, lol. Ginger 5 pounds. But then did divide wholesale quantities eventually.
Our Fairway, (only NYorkers know them), went bankrupt Fall 2019 and closed our local ten minutes away...third generation maybe got greedy. 20 years too late to go cross country....way behind WholeFoods. Sourcing pick-up, delivery,...thankful so many had this established pre-covid.
They have Fairways in NJ. They’re all closed or are closing. They’ve never really been exclusive to NYC.
Also afaik the Union Square farmers market never really shut down. But I get avoiding it for safety reasons— I used to work around the corner and it was always a mad house.

Canned bacon actually exists? Gosh and I thought my bad idea of ordering a pizza at 1am would take the cake for today!
Especially since I’m 1- no longer hungry (I didn’t eat yesterday) and 2- am nodding off from exhaustion!!

I don’t bake so I always use salted butter. And sometimes and more butter and salt than needed. A nicely toasted English muffin heavily buttered with a sprinkling of sea salt is a thing of beauty.

@Shelby I am absolutely craving that prosciutto wrapped melon. My best friends father eats it all summer long. I wonder if I went to visit him and not my parents (they live on the same street) if I could get away with it!

One thing that always struck me about David was his references to his mother’s recipes. You could feel the love and appreciation for his mom through his words. I like to think they’re reunited again.
Every time I see this topic active my heart breaks a bit.
