  1. Dave, most I've experienced were rum & Coke, with a slice of lime, 1/4 lime if you're lucky. Here's a little info on the group: http://www.havananight.com/
  2. While in Germany, on Memorial Day Weekend, we went to a nearby town of Darmstadt. They were having some type of festival in the city center. There was a stage, with Cuban music & dancers. Havana Nights, iIrc, was the name of the group. There was also a bar, serving Cuban drinks, with Havana Club 3. So, I ordered a Cuba Libre for 5 Euro + a 2 Euro deposit for the LARGE glass. I watched them make it; they crushed one Lime, and put it, along with the juice, in the bottom of the glass. Next, they added a generous portion of Havana Club 3, Ice, and Cola. Garnishments of a straw, lime slice, & fancy stirrer were added. :yum: I've since tried it at home. :yum:
  3. I beg to differ. The rums produced in CUBA to many, are the BEST in the WORLD!
  4. I usually drink Appleton's. But, only because it is available.

  6. There are a few bottles left over in Europe. Expect to pay about $150 a pop.
  7. Ron Zacapa Centenario does nothing for me, it's got a kind of sickly sweet taste to it. But, several of my friends love it.
  8. JOHN, how much info about Cuban Rum? Just found his site myself with a Dogpile search, nice site.
  9. You're welcome. Finally got my local store to carry it!
  10. Nice review, thanks. Haven't seen it yet--but like all other Appleton's so I look forward to tasting this.
  11. iIrc, it comes in a plastic bottle. Have never given it a whirl. Thanks for th' warning.
  12. A few comments from a friend, who shall remain nameless. Anyone ever had this rum before? Ron Santero: This rum from Cuba is a typical Cuban rum, well made, with honest taste and aromas. Great value for its price. Ron Santero 7 años Ron Santero 5 años Ron Santero 3 años
  13. Sorry, forgot to look, again, but will say that the spill-guard is a much an anti-refill devise as anything.
  14. There's no Cuban seal, has a metal, screw-off cap. He should hear the metal seal break, as he opens the bottle. iIrc, there is no spill-guard on this rum, either, will double-check tonight.
  15. You are correct, sir. What's th' differ? Not that I'd buy any more, based on the first bottle.
  16. I've only had it of the Zacapa line, so can't compare it to their other rums. It's 750ml, btw. It came from my friend ak2000, who bought it in Chicagoland somewhere (I think Sam's), by the case, so we got a good deal, seems it was in the mid $40's. Tasted kind of like Goslings Blackseal Rum, which I also didn't like. I think it's the liquorish & sickly sweet flavours that don't appeal to me, although the Zacapa isn't nearly as bad as the Goslings, to me. Of course, you may love it, as he does. Internet Wines & Spirits, whose prices are high as giraffe pu55y, has it for $46.23: http://search.store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/nsea...atalog=randalls
  17. You're welcome, look forward to your report.
  18. Counterfeiting of Cuban rum possible, and I'm sure is being done somewhere, but not very probable, for the following reasons: 1. Cuban rum is relativly inexpensive anywhere it is sold, a single Cuban cigar often retailing for more that a bottle of Cuban rum. In high counterfeit areas for Cuban cigars, buying the cheaper brands like Fonseca is the best way to get the genuine article, for the un cigar savy--they just aren't worth counterfeiting. Who counterfeits $1 bills? 2. In many countries a spill guard is placed in the mouth of the bottle, to prevent easy refilling. 3. Bottles, with labels, seals et cetera, are hard to produce. 4. Cuban Rums, like Cuban cigars, have unique flavours & aromas, and can be told apart by those with sensative noses/palates. But, not all counterfeit Cubans are non-Cuban.
  19. I've heard of & tasted rum that had gone bad, due to (I think) improper seal. The only term that comes to mind is skunky. In my case it was a bottle of HC7 bought in Cuba, which I think was real, and the one I heard of was Cuban Matusalem bought in Germany. Both were "on th' shelf" for a few years before tasting.
