  1. I'm no expert in this field, but in almost every case, anything and everything can be done better.

    Dinner! 2005

Hey, we're neighbors! I hope you post more about the Lower East Side on the New York Forum.
  3. I have a similar question. I wonder whether you'd like to compare the clienteles you came into contact with in the various cities where you have worked, what their expectations were and anything else you'd like to comment on in terms of the atmosphere, working conditions, etc., etc. Also, if you weren't working in Houston today, what other city would you most like to work in and why?
  4. Yes, but they're cooked, so the cyanide is gone. Mabelline, I used to eat raw peach pits, too, when I was a kid. Nothing bad happened to me, but I stopped eating them when I was told they contained cyanide.
  5. It was great to vicariously visit Cambridge again. Thank you very much! And I'll look for that thread on Midsummer House.
  6. That's just because you've never had really good Cheese Doodles.
  7. If Whole Foods does eventually get lychees, they'll be at least twice (if not three times) as expensive as the ones you can get in Chinatown now, and not as good. Go to Chinatown, young man.
  8. Kris, I'm intrigued by the seeming dates stamped on those eggs. What does 05.06.23 mean? And what about IF3?

    Golf cake

That's beautiful! I love the "grass," and is the pole is made of chocolate with white sugar for the flag? (I'm just guessing; I ain't no pastry chef! I also don't play golf.)
  10. Meat substitutes are fine when they're Chinese, as in vegetarian duck. People who are not vegetarians are delighted to have some delicious Chinese vegetarian food that mocks the texture and flavor of ham, pork, whatever. But protose steak sucks!
  11. Why not? Sounds right up my alley.
  12. Great pictures, Jason! Steven, I love that "Bacon is a Vegetable" shirt. I have to say, looking at those block-long lines, I'm glad I didn't show up this year.
  13. Make sure you take trips inland and visit temples. Are you studying Indonesian yet?

    The Basics

Yeah, that was the first thing I cooked, at the age of 7, following a recipe. Starting at 4, I helped my mother with prep for apple pies, by chopping and coring apples.

    The Basics

Well, the first dish I cooked by myself was Maryland Chicken, so I don't think that works for discussing the basics.
  16. Orchids grow wild in England? I wouldn't have imagined it. And the orchids I know are parasitic.
  17. Excellent-quality fresh lychees are available for $3.50/lb. and $10/3 lb. on East Broadway. Go and get 'em!

    Golf cake

Marmish, what you came up with is loads of fun! I'm not surprised it went over well. I also really enjoyed looking at your cakes, Wendy.
  19. You really are too modest. You are one of the best bloggers of them all. And really, some spelling mistakes are the least important thing to worry about in a foodblog, and I say that as someone who's usually a real stickler for spelling.

    Lebanese wines

While having a look at the Lebanon Daily Star, I noticed this article about Lebanese wines: "Promote Lebanese wine, or it could die on the vine" What do you think of Lebanese wines? How widely available are they where you live?
  21. Turn in your card and pin on your way out. No, actually, someone who appreciates the best sugar of all (maple) has my respect. Grade B, right?
  22. Yeah, I'll bet you're shocked, SHOCKED at how we get the leg of lamb to the table...
  23. That's a really great quote about Oliveto. But we might want to be careful when talking about fusions of Chinese cuisines with whatever cuisines they encounter in other countries. Chinese people in places like Malaysia and Thailand embrace fusion and make fantastic food!
  24. Result of clicking on your link:
  25. I may have overstated my point. The concern is in cases of patients whose immune systems are severely compromised by the deaths of neutrophils and such-like while the chemotherapeutic chemical is in their bodies.
