    White Castle

We always referred to Little Tavern burgers as "Gut Grenades." Only edible at 3AM after a long night of doing whatever it was that we were doing...
  2. Water pipe?
  3. Thanks for the, uh, research. I admire your dedication to the quest for knowledge.
  4. Either. If men, I'd rather go to a gay club.
  5. Not bad, huh? Loved Kerr's earring. I watched it with the sound off.
  6. Really? Oh boy. I didn't make it to the market today but next Sunday it will be a must.
  7. I would call it medium to thin. What I liked best about it was the sauce - just the right amount. Good quality mushrooms and pepperoni too. It wasn't Pizzaria Paradiso, but for carry-out pizza it was easily one of the best I've had. Scott is going to bring some home next week too so that we can do more extensive research.
  8. Just as well I didn't know that. Scott managed to restrain himself and bring two slices home. Even reheated it was delicious pizza.
  9. I still have a soft spot for Au Pied De Cochon, but for the most part G'town does not pop into my head when I'm looking for a place to eat - except maybe a sandwich at Dean & Deluca. Actually, since the Biograph closed, I rarely go to Georgetown at all.

    Dinner! 2003

Salad night: Steamed chinese eggplant with soy, chile flakes, sesame oil, sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds. Sauteed baby beet greens and rainbow chard, with balsamic and EVOO. Tiny boiled potatoes and olive oil packed tuna, sprinkled with diced cornichons, minced egg white, chopped olives, with a dressing of EVOO, mashed egg yolk, minced onion, white wine vinegar, S&P. Sushi rice, roasted red, yellow, and orange peppers, diced grilled teriyaki chicken, rice wine vinegar and sesame oil. Chopped heirloom tomatoes and kirby cukes with EVOO, S & P, sprinkle of vinegar. All served at room temperature. The last of the strawberries for dessert.
  11. I've never been to either. elyse, there's a strip joint in bloomfield a few minutes from the market. i'll pick you up on thursday and we can shoot over. then we'll stop at hooter's and you can do a comparison and post our thoughts. bring pie. I wanna go! ::pout::
  12. you've been to both? or is this just speculation. I've been to strip clubs. Never been to Hooters, and feel really weird about even going in.
  13. Now that's a picture... Funny, as a woman I would feel more comfortable in a strip club than I would in Hooters. Not sure why.
  14. We shouldn't blame the restaurants for overeating. I am responsible for how much food makes it's way down my gullet, regardless of the size of the plate put in front of me. If large portions are what the customer wants, should the restaurant oblige? Or should it have a disclaimer in the menu to the effect that although the customer would like large portions, they cannot because it isn't good for us? Would a place like that stay in business?
  15. It isn't about "fancy" all the time. I have posted on the dinner thread when all I made was hot dogs and beans, or grilled burgers. What irks me about CF isn't the food, which is competent, and actually a step above some "neighborhood" places we've been to. I object to the hype.
  16. Varmint, did Scott PM you about our friends in Cary? I would be happy to make some traditional potato salad and deviled eggs, with Miracle Whip of course.
  17. Susan, do you toast in the oven or on top of the stove? I have bought toasted rice but wasn't impressed with the quality.
  18. not to mention the added hassle of having to shop for and prepare dinner when you're dealing with a kid or two. and cleaning up. but hey, we'll never convince the nay-sayers. That being said, we are still much more likely to frequent the local "ethnic" places near us. Our kids love Thai, Chinese and Indian food, and I'm not sure if it's a cultural difference, but the staff at these places seem much more tolerant of children. We have also found that if our daughter is treated in a grown-up manner, that she is more likely to behave herself, so maybe the chain's pandering to kids is for naught.
  19. I fail to realize how this argument supports the ingestion of crappy food. A rephrasing might be, "Some people are lazy." I'm not sure how having children qualifies me as lazy. Have you ever had a meal in a fine-dining establishment with a two-year-old? It's not pretty. They have a time limit of about 45-60 mnutes in a restaurant. If I'm with the kids and have to eat a meal out I would much rather have an ordinary meal in a place with high chairs, crayons, etc. (no kids menu though) than have a fabulous meal that I'm not able to enjoy and have to get most of it packed to take home.

    Tomato Sandwiches

Good for you! Enjoy one for me. Tomatoes are still two weeks away here. Damn that cold wet spring!
  21. Malawry, thanks so much for inviting me to join you, and thanks for splitting the duck eggs with me. I picked up 2 quarts of incredibly sweet strawberries and my first batch of freezer jam is sitting on the counter already. Other finds were some kirbies (pickles tomorrow), arugula, haricots vert, chioggi beets with beautiful greens, and a quart of sour cherries that will most likely become a cobbler this week. Tomatoes in two more weeks. I looove summer.
  22. Mr Varmint has four little Varmints, and my husband and I are bringing our two (ages 1 & 4), so I'm guessing that a few more won't be a problem.
  23. I may have mentioned this earlier in the thread... A male acquaintance of mine always bought Mickeys because he could use the bottle later to piss in. Nice, huh?
  24. ...it goes right on your bare thighs. Exactly! That's what I'm sayin! I just choked on my diet root beer.
