  1. I had wanted to play too. A few weeks ago I purchased fresh pies from Shoprite and Whole Foods, took pictures, the whole bit. But not worth posting. There was a bit of something in the Shoprite pie. At first I thought bone, but pretty sure was plastic. The Whole Foods pie was better. Meat was actually good. Nothing to write home about, but I might buy again to keep me from starvation. Both pies, to my taste, were dry. I like gravy in my pie.
  2. Last night I found in my kitchen what appeared to be a cross between a roach, a giant stink bug, and Godzilla. I determined it was a spotted lantern fly. In my kitchen.
  3. A few days ago I anovaed excellent 8 hour short ribs: https://forums.egullet.org/topic/160121-dinner-2020/?do=findComment&comment=2268897 Last night I had the same but cooked for 24. Anova's recipe calls for 8 to 12. I can't blame anova, 24 hours was a disappointment. The meat was stringy. But now I am sadder and wiser. Or at least sadder.
  4. It's all too easy to turn off the oven trying to close the door.* *unless you're wearing silicone gloves, in which case you can't turn off the oven.

    Frogs Legs

Frog legs might go wonderfully with a mai tai. I've had frogs legs only once and that was at a company bash in Tennessee. Horrible headache but probably a stretch to blame the frogs.
  6. I shall never again stare at my timer* and have no idea whatsoever what it is I'm timing. *traceable to NIST.
  7. Two more donations to amazon on my iPad.
  8. Nothing to do with EZtemper unfortunately, but your picture gave me a good idea. Thanks.
  9. I noticed that after 14 hours on full steam the drip tray starts to overflow. But amazingly the water level in the tank scarcely goes down at all.
  10. What is this thing you speak of, "meal planning"?
  11. Tonight I still had the trays one on top of the other, however not on the floor of the freezer. This time I couldn't see much difference in clearness between the trays.
  12. I found a cockroach in my American Airlines nuts tonight. Maybe not the fault of GNS but it lessened my enjoyment of same considerably.
  13. I find that when buying even free range/organic eggs the cartons vary a lot in yolk color and flavor. But the yolks don't vary that much within a carton.

    Mushrooms

One of my friends at work is a volunteer at the farmers market. She reports that one of the vendors sells only mushrooms. The varieties vary but there are usually several to be had. Now if I could only get my body out of bed before noon...
  15. I repeated the experiment. The ice from the tray on the bottom was clearer than the ice from the tray above it. However the difference was not as pronounced as yesterday.
  16. The toast recipe is back up on the anova site...but it is a very different recipe: https://oven.anovaculinary.com/recipe/vRx7WOeVrgodAM0yePQ8
  17. Fissler.
  18. Pro is not the same as commercial.
  19. Do you have one? I've had no problems with either KitchenAid. And I don't treat them nicely.
  20. One was sitting on the floor of the freezer. The other was sitting on top of the first. Unfortunately I do not remember which was which. I plan to repeat the experiment.
  21. Something tonight I had never seen before... For the ice that goes in my beverages (as opposed to the ice that goes in my shakers) I use miniature Japanese plastic trays with lids. The same trays I've been using for about ten years. As usual, the other night I filled two trays with the local Millstone River tap water -- quite potable to my taste but nothing special. Tonight when I went to make my Mississippi* punch, one tray was almost crystal clear. The other tray was solid white. The trays had been in my refrigerator freezer, not the blast freezer. The difference in the ice was striking. Thoughts? And, yes, I am still relatively sober. *longer than the Millstone but not as pretty.
