  1. Thank you lesliec !! Your advice is much appreciated. From doing searches on Amazon and King Arthur Flour I thought i needed to buy a whole new set of bread-making gear. Whew!! That's a relief. I will definitely post pictures after I make my first loaf Thanks again
  2. That's a good point I hadn't noticed nibor. I think Pyrex is trying to cut into the popularity of the Oxo measuring cups, which is something I cannot work at all.
  3. Thanks hsm! I'm into health. I love flax. Should I start with book 2? I have never baked any bread before. I buy Dave's Killer Bread and am hoping I can replace it with my own loaves. Doing some browsing I notice I need a special container, peel and baking stone. Are they must-haves right from the start?
  4. Beautiful and very inspiring. Where do you find kibbled grain?
  5. I don't know anything aout either book. What accounts for this book being healthy as compared to the first book?
  6. I think it was last year that Cook's Illustrated reported on this. They suggested, and I heeded their advice and stocked-up on several of the classic glass liquid measures.
  7. I really like the recipes in "Fast, Fresh & Green" by Susie Middleton. The recipes are simple and to the point. Everything have made has turned out delicious.
  8. I have The Cooking Of Southwest France by Paula Wolfert. Some of these recipes take days to complete. Some ingredients are hard to find. I made the trout with prosciutto. My husband preferred his trout breaded and pan fried like the kind you cook over a camp fire. I have not tried another recipe yet.

I feel the same way. It's sort of like white noise while I am doing other things. I like the premise of the show and would like to see more shows in this genre. But, with the crew they have now, only Michael will get me to stop and pay attention once in a while.
  10. Thank you. I think your idea is very inventive. I've been told King Arthur Flour has the finest almond flour but it is never available in my area. I usually make my own but I am sure it isn't ground as fine as it could be.
  11. Sticking my thumb up for Fish Without A Doubt too. I don't own it but I have been considering it. I have a freezer full of frozen fish since my husband took up fishing. The recipes in that book look delicious. The recipes offer different fish as substitutes if you don't have the particular fish called for in the recipe. The sauces for the fish sound great.
  12. I own 49 baking books and 30 cooking books. I have several baking books on my wish list. I usually to go to the library and try the recipes before I actually buy the book.
  13. Hotdog buns?!! That is ingenious! What kind of almond meal do you use?
  14. Oh Wow! jrshaul, do you use yeast to make that? It looks delicious.
  15. Thank you Curls. It is wonderful. Mr. Lebovitz suggests left-over cake should be reheated in the oven or micro. He is so right; it gets that maple syrup to drip into the cake and makes it like the first time all over again. Although I have the book for years, this is the first David Lebovitz recipe I have made. I now have a whole list of recipes I can't wait to try.
  16. I say return it. Would you return meat if you got home and found the side lying on styrofoam was spoiled? I would. I recently bought a large container of organic baby spinach from Costco. By looking at it you could not tell there was anything wrong with it other than the leaves looked a bit peaked. The spinach had a sour taste. I did not bring it back because Costco is so far from my house but I would have if the warehouse was closer. But I am sure I would have had no problem returning it. Another incident was with Fresh Express packaged spinach. I was having a salad and it too tasted bad. After eating half the salad I saw what I thought was a brown leaf. It was not a brown leaf at all. It was a dead moth I called Fresh Express customer service. They refunded my money and sent me lots of coupons for free bags, which I promptly gave away without hesitation.
  17. I was in total agreement with you a I was in agreement with you until I started eating Cobb Salad with Honey Mustard Dressing. IMO, the honey mustard balances the Blue Cheese and is really good.
  18. I baked David Lebovitz' Maple Walnut Pear Upside-Down Cake for my husband's special day. The glaze is amazing. Toasted walnuts in a maple-brown sugar glaze. Really delicious.
  19. That cake looks so good! Happy birthday to you! I hope your day is very special
  20. I have to say this is the most beautiful food I have ever seen.
  21. We've got plenty here. Send him on over. I made 54 so I am good for almost a month
  22. Gorgeous Kouign Aman! Absolutely gorgeous!
