The two minor concerns involve making your own apple pectin and concerns about safety. The first one is valid. Needing to make your own apple pectin could be a dealbreaker for some. The other concern is really nonexistent. Whether one calls it a simmer or a boil both (the author and the reviewer) agree that the water must reach 212°F for processing.

Lunch – – a well-balanced meal – – meat and one. However, I’m not really fond of these balsamic pickled onions we bought. I considered blitzing the jar (contents) in the Thermomix in an attempt to turn it into onion jam. But one would still have to futz with it. It’s not sweet enough for that. Blessedly it’s a small jar.

Love love Worcestershire sauce. And come to think of it I used to make a Caesar dressing with anchovies and loved it. Hmmmm. There’s nowt so queer as folk.

Thanks. Reviewed or not the author certainly seems to have cred. And, bonus, it’s on sale for $1.99 on the Canadian Amazon site for a change.

Don’t believe for one second that I could tolerate a can of anchovies. Even a single anchovy would be stretching my tolerance. And yet it would not be the same dressing if you omit that much of one ingredient. I rather like @heidih‘s thought of using fish sauce instead. I’ll have to think on it. Is it not strange that I love fish sauce and can’t stand anchovies?

There isn’t much I wouldn’t try for breakfast!

Ha ha. Missed that completely. I also eat (canned) sardines but only in tomato sauce so if they are oily then the tomato sauce does a fine job of concealing it. Even looking at mackerel I get an oily taste in my mouth. If I lived somewhere where I could guarantee the fish was fresher than fresher I might try mackerel.

I don’t find it a bit oily when it’s pickled.

Lovely looking plate. Not sure I can handle oily fish though. They have never been a part of my life.

Another rather dull day but there is no rain in the forecast. I think the festivities start in earnest today. No clarification needed. And I just couldn’t wait to try @blue_dolphin‘s discovery regarding pickled ginger in a salad. Wow! Buy or make yourself some pickled ginger. I knew from various readings that ginger and tomato had an affinity for one another I’ve just never put that knowledge to work before. Kerry is off in Wicki again with a medical student. I think we both thought that the Pow Wow started today but apparently it doesn’t start until tomorrow. Not sure what difference that might make to her day. Will have to wait until she gets back tonight to find out.

Now there is an idea I definitely need to adopt. Thanks.

But that would mean dumping out my flour.

Kerry and Kira have got off to meet with some docs, nurses and administrative types for pizza and a gabfest. Sometimes it’s nice to please no one but yourself. Leftover picanha salad.

This also caught my eye today although I have seen it many times. Location location location. If you were dentist situate yourself right next to the bank. It’s in downtown Little Current.

And most of the items were between one and two dollars each. And remember what I said about you never know what you might find on the Island? Please notice the Japanese curry roux!

Not in my world. The terms are used interchangeably.

The ones from last night were Costco. I dried them as thoroughly as I could with paper towel and seared them in a cast iron pan.

Good morning. We started out with a lovely sunny day but some clouds seem to have moved in although they don’t look too threatening. I don’t eat a lot of kerchup so this is pure nostalgia. I know I have mentioned before that when we new recruits did not make it to the mess hall in time for breakfast ketchup on toast was our fallback. Kerry just got back from cleaning up at the hospital and once we have both had breakfast and sorted ourselves out we will head off to Pike Lake Farm to see if we can get some fresh eggs. After lunch some friends from down south who are staying at Freer Point will visit so we can all catch up on gossip. And then this evening Kira and Kerry will head off for a bit of an adventure with some of the hospital staff while I hold the fort (well the townhouse).

He could serve me bowls of mud filled with earwigs and I’d still buckle at the knees.

Yup. That was the meaning of my embarrassed emoji.
