  1. Apparently these things exist for exactly 24 hours and after that they disappear. That is what I was told after I complained that I couldn’t find it!
  2. After doing a couple of loads of laundry, packing a bit of my stuff to go home, I realized Ivwas damned hungry. So hungry I forgot a photo until I had already eaten half my lunch! Found two bread heels in the freezer. I toasted them, added some cheddar and sliced timatoes and called it lunch!
  3. Gave it my best shot but came up empty. But thanks very much. I might have been lucky.
  4. That is a good thought and I’m certainly willing to give it a try. But let me tell you it dates back to the 70s or 80s.
  5. None of them hold water in my mind. As someone above has noted almost any recipe can be figured out given time and patience.
  6. Why would you not share a recipe? I don’t understand this kind of thinking.
  7. So sorry. Not really an appropriate post given your title! Damn. Now I you see your other post saying that you hope it becomes a Wishing well so I’m going to let it all stand. 😀
  8. Not a recipe from a friend but a recipe from a magazine that I swear I would give money to recover. It was called Chicken with Apple and Onions ( or something similar). To others it probably doesn’t sound appealing. To me and my family it introduced some flavours that seemed incredibly exotic. I made it many many times. I have tried to re-create it with no success. I have searched and searched with the same amount of success. Perhaps if I ever found it I would go longer like it. Nothing would surprise me. It involved chicken parts, small onions, apple, ground ginger, nutmeg, a chicken bouillon cube... See what I mean? Nothing to write home about. But the combination of flavours was something all of my family enjoyed and that was a rare treat in itself. I get your frustration even though we’re coming from different angles at the missing recipe story.
  9. Good morning. I see the sun is trying to break through the clouds. Breakfast this morning is one of Kerry’s lovely cheese biscuits. She chose for me the one with the most ooze! She has gone off to rounds and when she returns the packing will begin in earnest.
  10. For me it might be a serious tossup between a scarab and scrapple.
  11. But this is the star of the show. No glamour but oh the taste! There is a lot less of it now than there was when Kerry took the photograph.😊
  12. She tried. I’m good at blocking out things I don’t want to hear. Just ask her.
  13. I always welcome company when I’m drinking. But when given the choice between drinking alone or not drinking at all you can guess which side I come up on.

    Boat Cookery

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a pork loin boneless or otherwise where one can fold under a thin end. I do this with pork tenderloin but the pork loins I buy are pretty much the same diameter for the length of the cut. Interesting.
  15. Once again I drink alone. This is a well-aged Brothers Perryman.
  16. Kerry got a short break from the hospital and is now hurriedly attempting to take photographs while we have this lovely overcast sky. You do have to admire her set up.
  17. Yup. It’s called the Internet. I would spend my money on those compendia that relate to the areas of cooking that interest me. I am just one opinionated responder to your request. I am sure you will garner much more interesting responses from others.
  18. Interesting. I’ve always thought they were the same. They obviously know very little about mushrooms. Edited to add: Not surprising. When I google these two mushrooms namescthey are frequently discussed together as if they were one.
  19. Actually it’s about the same price as a new Thermomix used to be and it’s quite surprising how many of us (non professionals) own one! Not that I bought mine — it was a gift but many others did buy theirs. When we want something badly enough it would seem that cost is not much of an obstacle.😁
  20. I think it’s terribly dated and there are things I would rather spend my money on. But as always, to each their own.
  21. I was thinking more like an opportunity to empty the whole bar at once.
  22. If my luck holds I won’t have to give up farm fresh eggs when I get home. Kerry brings them to me on a fairly regular basis. I am so spoiled now that I hate buying supermarket eggs on the odd occasion when it becomes necessary.

    Popsicles

What a very lovely idea. I am sure they will be very much appreciated.
  24. Good morning. It’s gray and dreary again today but at least we are not facing the heat and humidity in Burlington and Oakville. The high today will not exceed 23°C according to the forecast. (My son who lives in Burlington tells me that the forecast is for perception of 40°C with the humidity.) Kerry made breakfast for me this morning as well as for her self. I was most appreciative. She will be heading off to the hospital shortly but at least she has something in her system to hold her for a few hours if things become messy over there. Things are about to become very messy over here. As most of you know we are coming to the end of our time on Manitoulin for this year. I suggested to Kerry that we call tomorrow Great Upheaval Day with apologies to the Acadians after whom the New Brunswick commemorative day is named. link We will be packing not only the stuff we brought up and must take home but everything in the condominium that belongs to Kerry (to be truthful Kerry will be packing and I will be watching!). She will pack it all in boxes and leave it here until a decision is made as to its further disposition.
