The trouble-shooting page is pretty hilarious too. I think its also a suburban American aquired taste.

how do people feel about tuna helper? i'm going to lose all credibility here but i love the stuff. its one of those childhood tastes that i crave. same with pepperidge farm cakes and milano cookies. love them.

Huh, had no idea that pilsners were just light lagers. I used to think that I hated pilsners and preferred lagers but now I see that I had no idea what I was talking about.

Looks to me like you got pounded for saying the chef should stop cooking Korean.

No no, its panini these days. Those rice pudding names are so precious and sickly-sweet, makes me want to vomit...

Bond Girl, thank god I really thought I was alone on this. People are fainting in ecstasy over the miso cod and I'm like "please pass the sake." Oh and I don't want to sound like a total KillJoy, everything else I liked just fine. It was just the miso cod that stumped me.

I think I'm the only person in the world who doesn't like the black cod marinated in miso.

Yaohan is now called Mitsuwa. It's in Edgewater, NJ. http://www.mitsuwa.com/ Last time I did the bus there which was several years ago, it was $2 each way I think. Very pretty drive along the Jersey coast

Someone we know likes a place in I think Coney Island that could be what you're looking for. She described it as "order a plate of oysters while waiting for the lobster to cook" type of place.

Do you have any on-line references that discuss this in more detail? Not that I doubt you, but I used to live in Ridgefield (until 1985) and back then, Danbury was a total dump. Discuss the immigration or the fresh air? Danbury is by no means *pretty* in a New England town kind of way, but definitely more grass, trees and stuff than JH. Trish--Yes the Goulash House is the Hungarian I was referring to. Lots and lots of almost deli-like Brazillian places with stuff like feijoada on the steamtable. Authentic, throw in every part o' the pig feijoada!! I had a memorable Mexican meal at a very unassuming taqueria. I think it was something simple like pollo en salsa verde but my god was it good.

Danbury: lots of great immigration patterns happening there. It's been described as Jackson Heights with fresh air. Just about the best Hungarian I've had, lots of Brazillian, and Mexican. And a big mall

What about Danbury, CT? Too far?

phew. you guys are allright then. i was starting to worry. i've only had the pork/provalone/greens combo and its what calls my name everytime. infact i had blacked out any other part of the menu.

I'm curious to hear what you Philly residents think of Tony Lukes? Tony Lukes in itself would be reason enough to visit Philadelphia for me and yet no one seems to be recommending it...
-
ahhh, i see the press release is making the rounds. time out had a little blurb on it and mentioned that the chef had previously been at iso, sushi samba and match.
-
anyone see this week's time out? they shot a fashion spread at siberia.

+1 resistance was futile. zuni cafe cookbook.

I just recently tried llapingachos and they were so good, I was neglecting the hunk of pork sitting on the other side of the plate ! In this same neighborhood, we're seeing a big wave of Ecuacdorian immigrants and I've seen lots and lots of signs for humitas for sale. Have been very curious and now I'm set to try them.

There will be lots of pictures I would imagine... Not that I'd buy the book for the pictures, I read the articles, er I mean the recipes.

Oh my trip is most definitely food-based. My friend is not as food obsessed as I am so we're going to mix it up a little and visit ruins in between eating eating eating. I'm still in the planning stages of the trip but this much I know: I'm flying into Villahermosa and flying out of Mexico City. Yes, I am also interested in silver jewlery, local crafts, etc. I hear that Trillings classes and tours are absolutely once in a lifetime type experiences. She apparently makes her own chocolate, which can be purchased exclusively in the US at: http://www.zingermans.com/Index.pasp One of the classes described to me was one just on different moles. They take you to the local market to buy ingredients and then back to the school to make it. If I'm not able to fit it in this trip, I'm already considering a trip entirely devoted to Seasons of My Heart.

ok, clear now. did you like it though?

...I'm trying to understand this...head bursting into flames...
