  2. Hi everyone, I need to buy a large enough tiramisu for appx 15 people this weekend. Any suggestions? Westside/Santa Monica area is more convenient for me. Thank you.
  3. I don't think it's genetic. People in my family are big drinkers, lots of red wine with dinner. And tons of scotch busted out after dinner, Johnny Walker, Glenmorangie, Glenlivet, Macallan.... Drinking is encouraged, hehe. I have friends who have used Tagamet or Pepcid to stop from turning red when drinking. It helps a lot.
  4. These are delicious. I've had them with a coconut milky topping and without.

  7. This is so funny.... Gah... I've had the same experience too... hahahhahhahaah At least they don't come up to you and say, "you know my ex girlfriend was Korean...."
  8. Has anyone here eaten the Man Han Banquet? I always wanted to try it. I missed the chance 2 years ago when these chefs from HK came to LA. Don't they eat monkey brains, bear paws, and elephant snouts? I wonder how they can get away with cooking that stuff now. Or do they have updated versions? And I dont' want to eat civet, EVER. <shivers>
  9. Yeah when I was little I loved McDonald's happy meals. Now I can't eat any fast food except for fried chicken and fries (love anything deep fried). I used to hate eggplant because I thought the purple color was really scary and the texture squishy but now I eat eggplant all the time.
  10. We get Arrowhead delivered to our office, and I think it taste fine. The tap water here taste like shit.
  11. MPV Seafood on Garfield in Alhambra. It's across the street from Regent Cafe, in between the 10 and Valley Blvd. If you go specify you want the BIG live shrimp, not the small ones. They have a menu with pictures too, that's for their specialty items. I love menus with pics.
  12. MPV, NYC, NBC, ABC, I don't know what they stand for.
  13. I read an article now that some restaurants have water sommeliers. They interviewed one, and this guy looks down at people who drink Evian and Perrier. He prefers this Norwegian brand (forgot the name) and Fiji. I dunno, but is that necessary? Couldn't they just train the waitstaff to know the difference if they are serving different brands of bottled water? A restaurant I frequent has special holders for the square shape of the Fiji water bottle.
  14. I just had a wonderful dinner at MPV last night, ate 2 pounds of jumbo live prawns, great deal at 14/lb, chile dungeness crab, baby bok choy with shitake mushrooms layered on top, shark fin soup, and roasted squab. I think I'm going back next week for those prawns.
  15. The boyfriend has been obsessed with yaki onigir's lately.
  16. Just finished reading Catcher in the Rye ? Haha. Funny.

    Mochi

I've had mochi made with black sesame. It's not a paste, the black sesame is mixed it. Fresh mochi spoils so quickly. I bought a big one and it molded in a 2 days.
  18. I presume you meant better than SF in non-Cantonese. I think SF can hold its own in Cantonese cuisine with any North American City, but is sadly thin in other regional cuisines. Is it true that live seafood tanks are outlawed in SF?
  19. I can attest that the SGV has very very good Chinese restaurants in terms of quality and types of cuisine (meaning more than cantonese), better than New York, better than SF. Probably a notch below Vancouver, but haven't been to Toronto so I don't know.
  20. THere is a good recipe for tripe in the Babbo cookbook.
  21. I'm asian. They probably wouldn't let me in anyway, hehe. I'll check out their cookbook though, sounds cool.
  22. Hehe, especially the Cantonese.
  23. A decent substitute is Hollywood Fries in westwood. I don't know if it's still open. BUt you can also go next door to Diddy Reese for ice cream cookie sandwiches.
  24. I'm an ignorant californian, what's junior league?
  25. I 2nd Bill Spoons. I like their hush puppies too.
