  2. My ribs come out tasting ok but the braising liquid turns greyish-purple from the wine that I've added. Can someone help me? I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Is it supposed to be that color?
  3. yes.... sushi for me I thought raw fish was sashimi, sushi does not have to contain fish at all. Let me clarify... I meant: yes... I like raw fish very much... but for me, the food item that I can't live without is sushi... Sorry about the confusion
  4. Trader Joes is great! They have all these wonderful cheeses and things I like mango sauce, passion fruit juice... I know someone is going to hate me for saying this, but I really dislike Whole Foods. For the same price, I would much rather go to Bristol Farms. I like the selection of products at Bristols Farms much more.
  5. Really? I heard that olive oil is a really good moisturizer. Of course I get a feeling if I tried it, I would totally break out... Some korean meats are dipped into sesame oil and sea salt as a condiment. Yum.
  6. The yakitori places that I frequent serve chicken breast grilled med rare with some wasabi. I think it is quite tasty and I have never gotten sick... I've never felt ill from eating anything (meat/fish) raw before. But who knows? My body might be crawling with parasites.
  7. If you add a little bit of sesame oil, it gives the whole thing a really nice flavor.
  8. I regard that as scandalous, and would encourage anyone who has that experience to name the restaurant. It has never happened to me yet, but I am all set to walk over to the men's room with an empty glass and come back with the tap water I asked for. Well lots of places don't really give you choice, they just insist you either want carbonated or flat bottled water. Then they keep filling your glass and then open another bottle.... I've gotten really feisty and have started saying "tap water from the faucet is fine."

  11. Go eat dim sum!!! All that greasy dim sum: har gow, shiew mai, daikon pancakes, char su buns, congee, dumpling soup stuffed with pork and shark fin. Washed down with lots of really strong tea. What has worked for me as a preventative is to take 2 Tb of olive oil before I go out to eat and drink. On my bday I went out to eat korean bbq and then afterwards went to drink martinis. I was not hungover the day after...

    Natto

    I love natto. It's an acquired taste but I absolutely can't get enough of it. Especially when it is in a don where there is sashimi mixed with it.
