  1. My bad, you're right, I was thinking of Frontera. It is supposedly the same or similar food, but with no reservations. Don't forget to give a report VeryApe....
  2. Sounds great Bill. I am looking forward to going to Topolobampo next Wednesday for dinner. Since there are no reservations, does anyone know what time the crowds start getting there? Also, if someone wants the tasting menu, does the whole table need to order it?
  3. I think your continued efforts to compare this event favorably to NO Jazzfest might be an exercise in futility.
  4. This was the first time we went, and it was a blast. The food standouts were the crawfish etouffee and the red beans and rice with sausage. Buckwheat Zydeco was awesome, and I also enjoyed the Red Stick Ramblers, who played a lot of cajun standards. Definitely bringing some type of tent next year because I now look quite similar to a boiled crawfish after baking in the sun all day.
  5. Everyone talks about the soup dumplings, but there are no "soup dumplings" on the menu. Are they the xiao long bao?
  6. Picanha is top sirloin, no? I don't believe it has anything to do with the leg....
  7. The first few posts of this thread say every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month, so looks like 5/28.
  8. I didn't realize they put so much food out for you to sample. I actually did buy 4 cheeses (manchego, idiazabal, garrotxa, and iberico) and they were all very good...none past their prime. Also bought a large chorizo, some smoked hot paprika, sherry vinegar, and a chocolate bar. Very good quality all around. I also couldn't get over how many people were there. Definitely have to get some olive oil and tuna pate next time....
  9. I would highly recommend this restaurant, and certainly the hotel as well. We went to France for 2 weeks and this was definitely a highlight of the trip. The hotel is fantastic, with an amazing view of the oyster beds in the Atlantic. In my opinion, it was very fairly priced. There is a walkway at the back of the hotel to the rocky beach, covered with trees (and a little dangerous), that will bring you right to the water. The room is small but luxurious. I will try and post some pics if I can. There is a complementary taxi to Roellinger's restaurant if you are eating there. It is a bit more casual than most Paris 3 stars, but the food is fantastic...with the focus obviously on seafood. We also had some great oysters right at the waterfront in Cancale for lunch. Just wanted to plug this hotel/restaurant combo for anyone going to Brittany...we will never forget our time there....
  10. Menton, you seem to have gone here many times. I plan on going tomorrow...mainly for cheese, chorizo/sausage, and vinegar. Is there anything in particular you can recommend? I live in Belleville and can't believe I've never been here before. Thanks. Pete
  11. Hey Bob, did you ever consider the fact that there might be a bit more history to it than that?
  12. Interesting that no one has commented on that yet....I hope someone does soon!
  13. Congrats Lou! (I think?) Should be great for business.
  14. We had a very good, inexpensive dinner here last night. I had the same pork dish that waves2ya mentioned...crispy rata, which is little chunks of fried pork with a vinegar/shallot dipping sauce. That was excellent. The owner mentioned this dish is more of as Filipino style dish. Ghostrider mentions Wondee's, but this place is not strictly Thai, so it's hard to compare. We started off with Vietnamese spring rolls, which had very fresh herbs, and the siaomi dumplings...nice, but I though the sauce was a bit strong. My wife's chicken gata was also very flavorful...I forget exactly what was in it, but it tasted distinctly Thai (coconut/lemongrass/basil). And the Pandan special drink (with pandan leaves) was good, but strange. It is very refreshing, neon green, with bits of green jello and white slimey bits in it. The owner mentioned coconut being in there, but the slimey bits didn't taste like coconut to me. I had 2 of these. The bright orange walls and 60's lounge music make for an interesting ambiance. Very good food...and the bill came to $45 before tip. 406 Broad St. in Bloomfield
  15. I would go even just to try this kooky drink...
  16. I'm bored at work today... Think this is it....
  17. Here's the Ledger's review of Pandan. Seems as though a trip is in order...
  18. Yes, they coat the meat with kosher salt before grilling and whack it off when the meat is done by banging the back of a large knife on the bottom of the spit.
  19. We were served udder at Boccondivino in Milan. It was actually pretty good..more subtle than I thought it would be.
  20. When you click on this link above, the hot sauce is now selling for $5,500. I think these guys are smoking Caldera laced crack rock.
  21. IMHO, their wings are nothing special. Standard 10 cent bar wings. However, their daily dinner specials are usually pretty solid. That's a nice place to have a drink or 5.
