  1. My wife and I went to Grand Vefour last year for the 70 Euro lunch because like you, we had to experience a 3 star in Paris at least once. The room was incredible and the staff were terrific...couldn't have been nicer or made us feel more at ease. However, besides from an amazing aged comte, the food was not memorable. I've read that you can get excellent food there, but you have to order off the set lunch or dinner menu, which is big bucks.
  2. No doubt...it was amazing. And you're probably better off ordering some pre-sale lamb from a local restaurant than that overpiced omelette.
  3. And the omelette is something like $40 US! When I was researching restaurants on Mont St. Michel, everything I read about La Mere Poulard pointed to tourist trap (as others here have said).
  4. The Stop and Shop I go to (Lyndhurst) sells ostrich filets.
  5. Don't know about any of the ones in Newark, but there's a great little place in Belleville on Cleveland St. (ave.?) called Solar Do Minho. It's Portuguese/Brazilian, and the focus seems to be on seafood and rodizio. It seemed smoke-free to me and it's quite close to Newark.
  6. True. I should have said, "I've eaten there 3 times and as far as I know I'm still disease free!"
  7. I've been there at least 3 times and the food has always been very good, especially the seared tuna with noodles.
  8. I just realized that we'll be in Mexico that week. I still hope to try An American Grill sometime in the near future. Have fun!
  9. I love the radio ads with the English accent, "I feel like a naughty rock star...naughty and saucy!".
  10. If you ever go back, try their Pizza flavored Combos. Exquisite!
  11. I did.
  12. I'm making a chicken and sausage gumbo from Chuck Taggart's Gumbo Pages. Without a doubt, the best recipe I've found for gumbo. I found this website a while ago, but I believe Chuck has since become an eGullet member. Happy to see that.
  13. The iced coffee with condensed milk was excellent. The coffee brews over your cup for 10 minutes, then you add it to a glass full of ice.
  14. I really enjoyed the Babich Sauvignon Blanc that Rosie brought. It paired well with mostly everything.
  15. My wife and I are probably in.
  16. So are you in for tomorrow Poots?
  17. I'm in for anything you guys decide on.
  18. I've never had an omakase tasting at a sushi place, or even really top quality sushi for that matter, but I've been wanting to try a high-end sushi place for some time. If you guys are worried about Monster and there's a better place around, I'd be up for it. I'm not one to throw money around, but it seems like you get what you pay for with sushi.
  19. Compromised food critics
  20. No, it's a different strip mall than Taste (I think?). And they only take cash for the time being since they did not get their credit card machine yet. I also have to agree that Little Saigon was better.
  21. Sounds easy enough...thanks.
  22. I know next to nothing about sushi or wine, but like both. If I can make it, I'm in for the omakase, but can anyone recommend a wine for me to bring?
  23. If anyone's interested, I can get wholesale pricing on cases of Charles Chips (including the 1 lb. tins), Terra chips, and Tom Sturgis pretzels. My dad works for a company that has the North American distributor rights for these products. They can ship direct to your home via UPS from New Jersey. I'm not making any money from this...just thought I'd throw this out there for eGullet members who might want these products. Please PM me if you're interested.
  24. Yes, according to thier website (monstersushi.com).
  25. I'd like to try and make it as well. I'll let you guys know for sure as the date gets closer.
