Tonight's dinner will be spareribs and saurkraut. This is one of my all time favourite meals. Hubby is not so enthused. A phone conversation a few minutes ago: Hubby - Hi, what's for dinner? Want to go out? Me: I'm just putting spareribs and saurkraut in the oven, besides we're going out tomorrow night. Hubby: long pause..........I repeat....want to go out for dinner? I still have some French Onion soup, so I'll likely serve that. I also made bacon bits and croutons, so if I get really ambitious, perhaps a Ceasar Salad. Depends on how many martinis I have when hubby gets home. Fridays are martini & scotch nights

I just checked. My bird is six pounds.
-
Garlic Croutons I made for a Ceasar Salad. If I don't stop soon, I won't have any left for the salad

Both this and Rachel's chicken sound wonderful- and all the others of course, but I'm torn between making one of these for my first roasted chicken in a few years I don't think they sell Soy Vey in Canada, but there are a few other Teryiake marinades out there I could try. That picture just looked so damn good.

Cusina, those are more or less the rules we follow in my house. Ryan's used his napkin on his lap since about age 6, although we still have to remind him sometimes. And he can be excused if he's done before the rest of us, and then come back for dessert if we're having one. Quite often we adults take longer over our main meals. We also let him read a book or play his gameboy at restaurants (when he was young we always brought crayons and colouring books for him), which he can use until the appetizer comes. He can go back to the book etc after he's finished until dessert, if we aren't. Ryan is a delight to take to restaurants and I've had other mom's tell me they wish their kids had manners as nice as he does. The please and thank you rule in our house is inviolate. He doesn't get anything without saying please, and he doesn't get to keep it if he doesn't say thank you - which includes notes or phone calls to relatives etc for presents. Because he's been slow to develop some fine motor skills, we usually let him phone. As long as he says thanks!

I just knew there were other threads around. I'm just a lousy searcher. Thanks Sam

I'm happy to be a victim for you to practice on. Next time I'm in New York that is By then, you should have the whole cocktail method figured out

I was at the butcher's this morning, picking up some back ribs for dinner tonight. A whole organic chicken caught my eye, and before I knew it, I'd added the chicken to my purchases. Now, I can't tell you how long it's been since I roasted a chicken and I don't have a rotisserie I realize this should be easy, after all, I roast turkeys all the time, but I'm open to suggestions on how to cook/stuff etc this bird. Rachel's roast chicken in the dinner thread looks awesome, but I'm making the assumption that wasn't a whole chicken. (Rachel will correct me if I'm wrong as usual, no doubt ) The ribs are still planned for tonight's dinner, and we're dining out tomorrow, but I'm thinking that roast chicken could be on Sunday's menu - with a little help from my fellow egulleteers of course

Fabulous Katie. Can I put those recipes into RecipeGullet , if they aren't there already (hint hint)

While I haven't asked any questions, I've been following your Q&A with great interest and enjoyment. Thank you so much for spending the time with us. When you do get to developing our cocktail, may I sugges you post it hereRecipeGullet in the cocktail section? Of course, I'm happy to post it to the archive for you as well. Thanks again!

I am a fan of fondues and make them frequently, usually beef, done in either broth or oils. I'm going to experiment with a cheese fondue this weekend, never having attempted one before. (Oh, I have three fondue pots as well )

Thanks Toasted. Or, as we've said, just change the wording of the method, and you're all set! Speaking of recipes, I made Browniebaker's Brownies yesterday, and they are just amazing.

Peanut butter and toast. Unfortunately, it's not Jif, and it's white bread. Oh well.

Here is the list of prohibited items from US Customs Prohibited items. It doesn't actually say dairy, but I wasn't about to start arguing with the Border guard. They aren't paid to have a sense of humour

What's a geen bean? And I can just see it now. fifi's carmelized onion thread. The rest of us will be carmelizing along directly. edited to add: I adore my confit in onion soup

Very simple tonight. French Onion soup, made with the Onion Confit and croutons I made yesterday, homemade garlic bread, simple salad with balsamic vinigrette dressing.

No, in fact I am not. Please adhere to eGullet's policies when posting recipes. Copyright Policy

Good going. And now wouldn't you like to add it to the eGullet recipes? You know, I think I will! The wonderful thing about this recipe is that it looks nice for a long time, even with the avacadoes. People love it and you can serve it with all sorts of things. Um guys......it can't be posted into recipegullet unless it's been adapted enough to comply with our copywrite policy.

Great course, Nick and Sharon! Thank you so much for doing this. You've inspired me to try my hand at some of this. All the recipes have now been incorporated into RecipeGullet. Each recipe has a link in the introduction back to this course.

While we were recently in Nashville, we lunched at the Opryland Hotel. Yes, I know it's probably not what you're looking for, but I have to tell you the crab and shrimp omlette my son had was amazing as was the blackened prime rib hubby ordered. On the other hand, my burger was so so.

I can sympathize. I remember when Ryan was a baby and when he slept (which wasn't very often), I'd creep about the house carefully, in fear that I'd wake him up. (once he was awake he was good for another 10 hour stretch of crying usually) My friend on the other hand made all kinds of noise while her baby slept. Vacumned, clashed pots and pans etc. The theory being, if your baby gets used to the noise while she's awake, it won't wake her up when she's sleeping. So get out those pots and pans and cook while she's awake. Better yet, set her carrier on the counter or floor while you're cooking. You can engage her in cooking right away! As for eating together, I don't think my ex and I ate together once during the first 8 months. One of us was walking the floor with Ry while the other one ate. We did however, drink a lot of wine those first few months

Even cooked meat? We've never had problems bringing smoked or cooked meats across the border going either way except beef (more recently). Dairy has never been a problem for us--and we have brought cheese, butter, labneh, etc. (almost every conceivable dairy item except milk). I know fruits and vegetables can be more problematic, but peeled fruits have been OK (we brought peeled papaya from the US to Canada during our last trip which was just a couple of weeks ago). Interesting... NOpe. And one RVer that we know had his can of Cambells soup confiscated and his dog food because they both had beef in them Also no eggs or egg products since the chicken flu thing. The border guard just said to us "no dairy". period.
