Whole-fruit fig and lemon preserves from Deep Run Roots And, I got brave enough to try another batch of kraut from This Will Make It Taste Good. My first batch was perfect. The next one, done the exact sam way, spoiled. This time worked though.

When I got fresh figs from Imperfect Foods my first thought was to peruse the fig chapter of DRR. I was immediately drawn to this recipe. I, too, reduced the amount--maybe less than half of the original recipe. And, like you, it took MUCH longer than what she said it would to cook down. Which is fine...it's just nice to see that I'm not the only one that seems to have that happen. The figs I have are the Brown Turkey variety. Very ripe and juicy--that could have been a contributing factor to the extra time. The sugar, lemons and figs marinated overnight After cooking down for at least two hours....SO good. I see this warmed up over a scoop of vanilla ice cream. And, like you said, it would be great with duck. She says it lasts two months in the fridge so hopefully some teal will be gotten and I can try that out.

Cerveza, Cargols i Covid - a summer in Catalonia

OH how did I miss this until today! I'm so excited for this. Thank you so much for taking us!!! Between Covid and other world events this is MUCH welcomed I've never heard of red wine mixed with lemonade. I'm off to google. And that bread is making me want to get my mill out and make a loaf....with tomatoes....I'm drooling. The head cheese from above looks delicious. Can't wait for more! -
OH yum. I'm kicking myself for not ordering Palisade peaches this year.

I need to get that book out! Looks delicious!!!!!!! but you forgot to peel the tomatoes 🙃
-
Safe trip home! Glad you got out of there before you lost power.

They might....I haven't looked. I have an Imperfect order to place today so I'll check it out. I'm spoiled, though, because we've grown our own and they are so good. Might luck out and get a good store bought one, you never know.

@Margaret PilgrimI'd kill to have both the squash and clams right now. Looks SO good. I made two loaves of white sandwich bread yesterday. One for the freezer for our upcoming hunter's visit and one for the first BLT's of the summer!

Both Misfits and Imperfect yesterday. Misfits Everything in good shape. A fruit salad will be made later today. Imperfect I about lost my mind last weekend. Logged on to do my shopping and O M G FRESH FIGS!!!!! I was floored. I put three lbs in my cart figuring there was no way they would actually ship them and if they did, what kind of shape they would be in. They are GOOD. There are a few soft ones which, in discussing with my mom, we decided a quick fig jam type thing would work well. I know I have to eat these quickly, but HOW fun is this??? ***I assume everyone knows my obsession with fresh figs that I very rarely get lol.

YES. I need to plant some HoneyDew next year!

When I lived way up in the Colorado mountains--melon was a foreign thing to me--a friend invited me to her house and her mom served musk melon slices wrapped in prosciutto. I have no idea where she got the melon and the meat was also a new thing. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. I'll never forget it. One of my favorite things. I think you should uber and sneak to your friends house

Oh those biscuits! And the tomatoes! Both look perfect.

I'm putting this in the garden area because hopefully the seeds will feed someone (the birds). Where that big tree in my yard had to be removed we decided to plant sunflowers. A couple of them are over 12' tall. I will get on a ladder or get in the tractor bucket and get better close up pictures. I miss my tree, but I do love looking out the window at the happy faces.

The morels didn't come up on our property like they usually do this year. Hadn't thought about it until reading the morel discussion. I guess it must be either the weather or the spray from the crops got them? We seem to be craving a lot of Mexican food lately. Pork enchiladas and stuffed poblanos with sweet corn from the garden A little pre-dinner snack--prosciutto wrapped cantaloup from the garden. First really great tomatoes at last Fried shrimp and catfish. Getting lots of okra. Mediterranean chicken of sorts, roasted potatoes --I think these were the Yukon golds that we grew. Sweet corn is winding down --I should have staggered planting so we'd have it longer. Enough shishito peppers from the garden for us!!!! I can't wait for the next batch. More Mexican--venison taco salads, salsa, more stuffed poblanos, stewed okra with tomatoes and jalapeños. Last night was venison meatloaf, @Jaymes'squash, more of the last of the corn and tomatoes. Tomatoes will be making an appearance a lot hopefully

Do NOT be embarrassed. Everything you put out looks delicious --I'd like nothing more than garden tomatoes and cheese tonight---and it fed you guys perfectly well! I'm glad the tzatziki could be doctored up--that was a smart idea! I don't have many nice words to say about your in-laws....talk about being tone deaf! Next time I think it's perfectly fine to bow out and do something just on your own to celebrate with the birthday person. I about fell over--- FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS --and that's just YOUR part. Holy shit. I don't know how you guys kept it together and paid that much. BIG hugs from me.

Sounds good! I don't know where you're located, but what pressure and how long please?

Hello everyone! Can you believe that we're still in a pandemic? In certain ways the time has flown since Dec. 2019, which was the last time our friend was here to hunt, and in other ways it feels like it's been a zillion years. What a horrific, awful, scary year and a half it's been and we ain't done yet, sadly. But, there are still good things and I try to focus on those. At least we have toilet paper now. So, unless things change dramatically for the worse...such as numbers skyrocketing or a no-fly thing is put in place, our friend will be here Sept. 14! Teal season and dove season will be in full swing. There will be no hugs hello and hand sanitizer will rule .....but we can deal with that . We get our second Pfizer shot on Aug. 25 so by the time he gets here it will be well over 2 weeks of being fully vaccinated . I should be up to my armpits in tomatoes and other garden stuff, so I'm going to have to squeeze in some major canning AND cooking. Our friend has already been warned that he's going to walk into seeing me with extremely long, gray hair (not comfortable yet with getting my hair done) and, that with the garden, meals may be not as he's used to. But, you guys know me, I'm going to try my best to fit it all in. I'm already planning so that I can get some things in the freezer to help me not get too overwhelmed. So, hopefully, I'll see you all back here in a few weeks for maybe a bit of feeling normal like it used to before the plague. (((hugs)))
