Sigh. Are things EVER going to get back to normal

I've never seen the Penny Shop 😳 OMG what have I been missing??????

My mom has been ordering the meats too and loving it. It's a LOT cheaper on Misfits than her local grocery store. I hope Misfits never goes under. We need them. Edited to say that I'm looking forward to what you think about the shrimp. I'm out and am going to order if you think they are decent--I've been waiting for the weather to cool down.

I remember a summer years ago that the big tomato plants just up and died and I was left with only cherry tomatoes. I peeled sinkfulls of them and canned them. Ronnie thought I was nuts lol. I don't think I'd go that far again. But I'm with you!! I don't like cherry tomato skins either.

It must be a southern thing. My very southern Texas raised Grammy--and her mother my Great Grandma Susie--ALWAYS peeled their tomatoes as does my Mother and then down to me. I do not care for tomato skin. It gets in the way of the delicious tomato meat! It's good to have another person around here that is TEAM NO SKIN lol. @DuvelThank you for the recipe for the Maultaschen. It sounds so good. I wish I could just pop out and get some fresh pasta dough. I'm going to have to suck it up and just make some so I can make this! Last trip to the lake this year happened yesterday. It's now time to do the heavy duck blind work. Lots of catfish were caught along with a couple of white bass. 😁 look! More tomatoes I fried the bass

Ha! I do love me a garden tomato. You will never catch me complaining...but a freeze wouldn't hurt my feelings too much LOL. Looking forward to hearing what you think about the pickled tomatoes. I have TONS of beautiful green big tomatoes that I will probably pick right before it does freeze.

Thanks again to @pattifor introducing me to tea leaf salad. I wanted to make this when I had good tomatoes-- so last night was the night. Ronnie grilled some chicken breasts--hard eggs and cheese toasties to go with.
-
Ann that's so sweet. Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving! Looks SOOOOO good.

Been a while. I've not been taking many pictures....maybe because my food is boring lol. My mom came for a wonderful visit and brought lots of fun things. The pottery dish these tomatoes are on was my Grammy's. I love it. She also brought these awesome turnips that she grew. We didn't eat them while she was here--I wish we would have....but we ran out of time. So, I used them in a really good lamb stew along with crusty bread. Pizza night with a cucumber tomato salad Last night was Italian night I can't seem to stop taking pictures of sliced tomatoes lol. Eggplant parm using eggplant from the garden. Shishitos from the garden Pasta and spicy Italian sausages to go with.

Glad to see you, too. (((hugs)))

This will be happening. Thank you so much! I gave mom free reign to take as many tomatoes as she wanted back home and it still didn't make a dent lol. And she took a TON. I've been needing to can for two days now, but life has gotten in the way. The temperatures are very much still like summer--highs in the 90's and it doesn't look to end any time soon. The plants are still loaded and covered with flowers. Might be a fun Christmas gift to give, too.

I'm so dying to try mine! It's still in the box Life has been extra crazy and I haven't made time. I have a jar of peaches that I canned with a lot of juice --would that be an easy place to start?

Kerry is the coolest!

I love love love this place. Wonder if they'd let me move in? Thanks for showing us! I don't think my car would hold all of the stuff I'd wanna buy from there.

I bought some of that and put it out when our hunter was here. I thought it was just ok. Edible and everything, but I wanted more hatch Chile flavor.

Great looking meals, everyone. I've been so busy I don't know which end is up. Our hunter friend left and then about a week after that my mom got to come visit from Colorado! A few meals before mom got here: Spaghetti red Big fat sandwiches Venison burgers on the grill with fries and pasta salad Then mom got here on Saturday! That day I made a huge pot of spaghetti sauce so we had that with spicy Italian sausages and cut up veggies. Forgot to take a picture. Next night was Gyro night. We didn't end up eating them when our hunter friend was here--just as well because mom loved them Baby carrots from mom's garden, hummus made from RG garbanzos, tzatziki using our garden cucumbers, more cukes, onions, lettuce The beautiful yellow and greenish tomatoes are ones that mom grew! I marvel that she can do that where she lives at 8600 ft. They tasted SO good. Venison\lamb Gyros with fries and our garden shishitos Mexican the next night. Mom brought some really good Colorado corn. She made a Mexican street corn salad. Salsa Venison taco salads with Mexican rice etc. Next night was one we've been looking forward to. We both LOVE sushi. Our husbands do not. So, since we never get it, I ordered some from Goldbelly--Blue Ribbon sushi like the kind I got before--spicy tuna, scallop and hamachi. Along with an order of the crispy rice\spicy tuna appetizer and some caviar For Ronnie I ordered from Momofuku --their pork buns. We had such a good time assembling and eating Last night was BLT's--easy....I was SO tired lol. Mac and cheese and the rest of the street corn salad to go with. Mom should be almost home--I feel bad because it's such a long drive and I know she's as tired as I am, but it was sooooo good to see her. It had been over two years.

Thanks! I'm going to remember this. If they work up there like that for you, then they should down here for me.
-
Wow, so these were just harvested? Ours don't do well in the heat of the summer. Are they russets?
-
I keep checking back on the obituary thinking they might update it. He was involved in so many things, I, too, wanted to learn more.

Moms are the best My grammy made fried chicken for us a lot, too. I never remember ANY mess at all....she made it look effortless. When I do it it's like a bomb went off. It's a little better when I sous vide it first because it doesn't take as long to cook, though. Thank you!!! I took a very long nap this afternoon which was heavenly. I'm now canning. And you're right. Dec. 1 will be here before I know it.

This is so nice of you But, I don't have energy. I have wine lol.
-
I wish you could too--except there wouldn't be any buying them. I'd be begging you to take them! No I haven't made that. I see two ingredients that I don't have. I'll google to see if I have something similar or I can order. This looks like something interesting that would be fun to have a few jars of. Thank you!
-
Probably! I go through them every day and weed out the ones that need to be processed the most....

Another September hunt has come to a close. Ronnie just left to take our friend to the airport--and to drop off some tomatoes at another friends house. I gave two grocery sacks full of tomatoes to our farmer last night....and this what's still here Soooo, yeah, not running out any time soon lol. I also picked a ton of shishitos this morning. Back to yesterday: the guys worked out in the heat until about 2, so instead of appetizers I made a little lunch. Turkey roll-ups and deviled eggs. Then I got busy canning. Got 7 quarts done. I'm running out of shelf space lol. Dinner last night was cheeseburger pizza and a salad. I made the dough yesterday while the mixer was unearthed from the tomatoes for bread making. Our friend decided he wanted a Bloody Mary this morning before leaving--helps soothe the awfulness of flying 🤣. Ronnie made a quick mix from some of the spicy tomato juice I made earlier. Celery is from the garden--I bought seeds just for fun. Celery takes a LONG time to grow. Ronnie started it in the greenhouse and it's just now ready. So, cheers to another installment--thanks for being with me, and I'll see you back here for deer season that begins Dec. 1 I'm off to unpack my Ninja Creami 😄
