They have a tangy taste like a tomatillo if you've had that...If fried correctly they are crunchy on the outside with a light batter and then tangy. Good dipped in ranch mixed with Sriracha or something spicy like that--or just something spicy imo.
-
Mine have always been rock hard. I've never tried, but I think if they had even a bit of ripeness that they would turn too mushy.
-
Agreed with the batter. I picked some huge green tomatoes before the first freeze in the hopes that they would turn. They are still green. Ronnie is not a fan, but I love a good fried green 'mater. I don't make them often because I would never sacrifice a KS tomato that could be a delicious red one , but if it's going to freeze then all bets are off lol. I slice them pretty thick--maybe an inch and I like the light beer batter that I use for fish.

Well because it is low fat....if it's advertised as no fat THAT isn't true. But it truly is low fat IMO.

This would be my vote.

I can't move there, so would you come live with me.....and just cook. ***drooling***

Super fun and the FOOD. Sigh. I dreamed about the food last night I swear.

Is it similar to this This came in a RG box a while back. Ingredients are dried chiles, crystalized lime, brown sugar, sea salt and Mexican oregano. GOOD stuff. I'd never heard of dipping fruit etc. in something like this either. I like to slice up Granny Smith apples and dip away. Edited to say that I'd love to browse around in a store like that right now. I really don't like shopping a lot, but I do like stores like this and it's been years--waaaaay before covid--since I've been out and about. The internet is too easy.....but sometimes I do miss browsing and actually seeing displays.

You're double killing me.

After a lot of thought, we made the decision that we are not going to attend Thanksgiving at the in-laws. It's a lot of people in not a big enough space to be able to be apart enough. They didn't have it last year so that made it easy to decide lol. Sigh. I don't think my in-laws are very happy with us right now (or maybe it's all in my head)--which kind of surprised me...and maybe we are being overly cautious....but I was going to be very nervous about being inside and Ronnie agreed. We will see how Thanksgiving goes I guess and then make another decision about Christmas. Anyway, I'm going to make the bread that they always request and take it over early on Thanksgiving Day. We will stop in and see my mother in law, too, and wish her a happy day before the crowd gathers. So, it'll just be the two of us. I ordered something fun and got it yesterday--if we had decided to go, I would have made it over the holiday weekend or saved it for Christmas maybe. It's bar-b-que from Joe's Smokehouse in Kansas City. Yes, we could make all of this ourselves, but we would never make all of this to have all at the same time...so it'll maybe be a BBQ Thanksgiving. It all came frozen solid as a rock and is in the freezer as we speak. I don't know that we will decide to make all of it or pick and choose.....it will certainly make more than one meal. It comes with a handbook that tells you the best ways to reheat everything. We could also change our mind and make a traditional turkey. The grocery store had them on sale for 59 cents a pound if you bought 25 dollars worth of other groceries. Limit of two...so one is in the freezer and one is thawing out to be brined. Anyway, side are TBD. Stuffing for sure. Deviled eggs for sure. I want gravy...so that means mashed potatoes but twice baked might be good with the BBQ....... veggies are up in the air depending on what needs to be used up around here. I ordered some extra things from Misfits and Imperfect with Thanksgiving in mind just in case. I'll report back when things firm up lol.

I've been terrible about taking pictures of my stuff, but I'm still ordering weekly and have been super happy with it all. No mistakes have happened for a long time and most things are super fresh. Both Misfits and Imperfect have different things that I like about each of them so I am still doing both. Oddly they have synched up and now deliver on the same day--Fridays. This was Misfits from Friday: I finally got to shop at the Penny Store!!!!! YEAST!!! THAT YEAST UP THERE!!! ONE PENNY!!!! It expires in Feb of 22 so I'll use it now. Imperfect These were super fun. I had never seen or had them before. Sweet and tart. I just ate them right out of the box.

@weinooYour soup looks delicious. I love that sort of thing. I'm a little low on seafood at the moment but I do have some bass that I could use to make it...... @Ann_TI hope Moe is home safe and sound and eating your wonderful meals! @DuvelSomeday I will get to try raclette. It's on my bucket list. @Kim ShookI've been really thinking about you. I wish I could be your spokesperson and make all of the stress go away. Hang in there. I can send wine. Today I plan to put away all of the fall decorations and start on Christmas. I'm not sure what the plans are yet--the decor may be just for the two of us. I might not go all out....but I have to have some things up and twinkle lights going. Anyway, on to food: Venison meatloaf, taters, made from mix brown gravy--I get a hankering for that. Beans from ones that I canned. French dip sandwiches Terrible picture of really good roasted pin tail ducks that Ronnie got. Turkey sandwiches with melty cheese Lamb stew and some bread that I made. Sous vide then fried chicken. Fresh beans done in the IP with some tomatoes. The pile of tomatoes on the counter is greatly dwindling. Shrimp in a spicy tomato\caper sauce over some vinegar spinach with a salad And last night chicken quesadillas with canned refried beans because I was too lazy to make RG beans.

I would definitely brine it but I don't think I would add any lemon component. I'd just do a salt brine.

There must be a lot of folks that buy the already made Alligator Toes etc. for them to make up that many. Around here it seems like the pre-made\pre-seasoned meats don't sell very well and always are in the sale bin. BUT, around here those aren't available pre-made. I'd certainly buy them because I find wrapping the bacon around stuff like that to be a PITA. Thanks for all the pictures. I love seeing different grocery stores. I'm thinking someone needs to invent some kind of attached- to -the -underside -of- the -camper freezer that slides out so you can buy more meats

No, I haven't and I'm sorry it happened to you. All that good stew ruined

Ohhhhhh it's this time of year already! I think you're a such champ for always doing this--blogging AND traveling half of the year. I don't know how you get it all done. The packing alone would send me to a fainting chair lol. We are to have our first very hard freeze tonight so I think ya'll got away just in time. Did I read correctly that your husband doesn't like to eat venison....I might have misinterpreted that, but if so, that surprised me for some odd reason. Are you meeting up with family this year for Thanksgiving? Big turmoil for me trying to decide whether to go to the in-laws. Sigh. Are all of the usual furry babies with you? Your chili looks so good. I was going to make that tonight but I think lamb stew won out. Maybe tomorrow. I feel like I'm in the camper with you...I'll just be curled up in the corner reading lol.
