You let them ferment for two to three weeks. They are done when they stop bubbling and are sour and olive green.

Oh the crust looks great Anna! BTW, I've found out that our walnut tree is a black walnut tree. Probably best to skip that little experiment lol.

I just saw a commercial for this. I like Helen Mirren AND food, so I'll definitely be seeing this. Probably wait until it's on a movie channel here at home, though.

Well, me too! What kind do you like? Welcome!

I have a huge walnut tree and have never picked it ( I know, I know, what a waste ) I am not a big nut fan....however, I feel I should try. I wonder if they are ripe now here in Kansas? How do you know they are ready to pick? I have heard they are a huge pain to shell/peel (?) fresh?

Thanks, Smithy! I baked them in the oven using the help of these suckers. http://www.amazon.com/Non-Stick-Tortilla-Shell-Makers-Set/dp/B001RDN2EA 375 degree oven for 15 minutes and you get the perfect bowl. Yes, just standard flour tortillas with nothing on them. I don't even grease the little pans.

Different recipe for zuke bread. I haven't cut into it yet, but from the feel of it, I'll like it much better. It's a lot lighter.

Honestly, I won't make that bread again. I used a different recipe. It was too heavy. I liked the chocolate, though.

It's me again. I thought of another spot. It's called The Spice Merchant. It's just a short walk down Douglas if you're in Old Town. http://www.spicemerchant.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi Jar after HUGE jar of every spice you can imagine, teas, coffee beans, gourmet foods etc. They have a really cool coffee bean roaster. It always smells SO good in there. Make sure you have room in the car to schlep some loot home

Interesting. I'll try google and see if I can find it. Thank you!

Can Dipping Chocolate Wafers Be Used Like Chocolate Chips?
Shelby replied to a topic in Pastry & Baking
YES! Thank you, Kerry! I googled the hell out of that question and couldn't find an answer. I was worried it would make things too runny. I'm off to dump them in my zuke bread batter. -
I have two bags of Ghirardelli candy making/dipping wafters that I haven't used. Can they be used in baking in place of chocolate chips?

Sounds like the perfect day to me

Here I am again I have a crock of cukes pickling (see the pickle thread). I'm out of dill, so I can't start any more until I get some. Thus, they are piling up on my counter.

I am not making any headway. In fact, I am going backwards. Basket yesterday I have that basket plus this now
