  1. Harolds in Parsippany is another place that is off my list. Outside of the fact that the board of health has closed them down at least once, last time I went there with my dad we had matzo ball soup and the balls were sour and then ordered a pastrami sandwich which was like rubber. In regards to the Rascal House in NMB, ever since Jerry's Deli (Ike Starkman and CO.) took over the prices have shot up and the food has gone down in my opinion. I went to the one in Boca a few months back for lunch and it was like $10 - $20 each for a sandwich or plate. I just thought it was overpriced for lunch when you can go across the street to the Cheesacke Factory and eat for lunch and get 3x the food.
  2. I know that a lot of people will disagree with me but. The Ritz Diner is overpriced and pretentious for plain, boring, food. Eppessen is pretty much the same. I thought the Kosher Nosh stunk. I will tell you why. I went there for lunch with my mom and was greeted by one of the waitresses that just finished smoking a cigarette out front. No she didn't wash up. We ordered some soup and then asked would one pastrami on rye be enough and she said it was huge. Well the soup was alright, nothing special. In the mean time they have a pickle and salad bar that had some green tomato's and pickles and cole slaw and other salad. The cole slaw is like the crap you get at the supermarket and obviously not home made, which is sad for a deli. The pickles were bitter and had not spent nearly enough time in the brew. Then the sandwich came out and it was plenty for 1 person, not two. It was not humongous like she said. I guess I compare to the size of a sandwich at Katz's in NYC or the Rascal House in North Miami Beach. I just thought the Kosher Nosh for all the rave was not worth my return trip. That's my opinion sorry. Should I have got "creative" and ordered a $20 dinner for lunch and got something else?
  3. The Kosher nosh is terrible.
  4. I guess the Halal cart in Manhattan wouldn't quite fit the NJ board. There is also a Greek place in the West Belt mall by Willowbrook and he always made a good Gyro.
  5. I might have to chime in on this. John, I never got the chili at JJ's - I do know they offer HOT works or SWEET works. I never knew what that meant. I usually get 3 and 2 of which with mustard and onions and one with mustard and kraut. I wash it down with a Chocolate Cow. I remember that their used to be Tony's truck that I think would park right in front of JJ's truck but I haven't seen him in years. Did he move to another location? I know at 2:00 AM, JJ's is the only one there. Down in FL we have the girls with the dirt water dog carts selling in their bikini's. Does anyone really care what the dog tastes like?
  6. I have been there quite a few times and really enjoy it. It's more of a mid-western bbq, so no sweet tea. Get the regular Ribs and not the back backs. They have different types of sauces to put on top and the food comes out in these big trays. I like the cole slaw and the corn bread. I think the Large rib dinner is around $15.00. The prices are reasonable. They also have paper towel rolls on the table like hooters. I usually get a mixed platter with ribs and pulled pork. It's on the way home from work on Route 22 so sometimes we will plan to meet there. Service is typically good from whatever college kid they have working there that week. They also have a bar and take out section.
  7. I believe that my mother and brother went there a few months back and said it wasn't very good.

    Chili

Would I get smacked if I said Wendy's? Just kidding. I used to get a cup over at Rutts Hut.
  9. OMG John, what bad luck. I am heading down to Florida that Saturday and would LOVE to have joined you. Shooooot.
  10. Was the Ferraras in Newark the same 'family' that owns the one in Little Italy? I like to go there for Cheesecake after supper in China Town at Wo Hop. I don't recall the Wayne Pizza mentioned by LNorman. Must have been over by the Wayne PAL and the Dodge dealer. I remember when the now Japanese place by the hotel on 23 was a chinese place. We used to go there with my mom and dad and have a poo-poo platter. My grandparents used to go to the Jade Fountain in Clifton (across the street from Rutts Hut). We used to go to Ding Ho in Passaic. Both long gone.
  11. I was in Washington DC for the weekend. Went to Maggiano's in the Tysons Galleria Mall. It was kind of like Johnny Carinos or Buca Di Beppo. I wanted to try B. Smiths.

R.I.P. Lucy's diner! (What was there before this place).
  14. Hey John, Haven't seen you in a while. I hope you and the wife are doing well. I did notice that the dog was very simular to Rutt's. I just love that relish at Rutt's I guess. Maybe next time I go to Hirams I will try the chili sauce or something. I also noticed a place on the way home from work that is also a hot dog place in a strip mall. It's on my way from Piscataway to route 22. It might be on Stelton or Washington avenue. I will have to investigate. I stil have to get to Syds also.
  15. I went to Hiram's tonight thanks to the NAV in my car. I did see the Callahans immeditaly to the right of it. I asked for two dogs with the red onion sauce on top and a beer on tap. This was my fist trip to Hiram's and I was really not happy with the dogs. Two dogs and a beer on tap set me back $6.25 I think. I just thought the dogs and the onions were bland. I even added some spicy mustard to kick it up a notch. Should I have got the chili dog or something? I don't think I will rush back to Hiram's in the future. Some sweet looking apartments with wonderful views in the are though.
  16. Rachel, The past two times I went there it was garbage. Not even worth the price. Just low quality food compared to the other hotels. My friend was equally unhappy with the food.
  17. I like the Virginia City Buffet at Bally's Wild West Casino. If you go for dinner they give you a ticket for a steak along with the buffet. The buffet has a soup and salad station, a deli type station with pastrami, potato pancakes, salads, etc. There is an Italian section with pastas and meatballs, sauces, etc. There is a Chinese section with spring rolls, egg rolls, 3 types for dishes one of which is usually pepper steak. There are endless deserts, and they also have sugar free deserts as well. We seem to like this one the best. Stay away from the buffet at Trump Taj Mahal. Harrahs has gone downhill too and is quite pricey. We checked out the buffet at The Borgada and wasn't too impressed with it. A co-worker of mine went there as well and wasn't that impressed. Also, I think the buffet at Showboat is on the second floor in what used to be a bowling alley. I would rate this one up there with the Virginia City at Ballys. You don't get a steak but I think they do offer skirt steaks or something smaller.
  18. Well I went to Atlantic City yesterday and actually had room for the Virginia City Buffet at the Bally's Wild Wild West casino believe it or not. Oh yeah I did make a donation of about $100.00 at the Casino. I just wanted to say that we had a wonderful time on Friday night and would love to see everyone again. Thanks to Anthony & Amy for organizing such a great evening. Thanks to Evan and Chefs Paul and Richard. I can't stop talking about that salad. Yummmmm. The calamari I will still have to pass on next time. I don't know why people fancy that stuff so much? Well perhaps I am biased. I am also glad that this restaurant is so close to where I live. I will definitely be back and perhaps bring my family and friends there. Here are my Scott ratings: Bread and breadstix: yum. Tomatoes: yum. Pizza: yum. Salad: extreme yum. Seafood fritto misto: not so yum for me but yum for everyone else (I'm not a seafood or fish lover) Skirt Steak: the most yum I have had in a long time. Desert: yum. I hope I didn't forget anything, but you get the picture. We had such a nice time meeting everyone there - what a nice group of people. I will have attend more of these gatherings. -Scott & Amy (not to be confused with Anthony's Amy).
