  1. When I used to work on Las Olas, sometimes we would go over to Tom Jenkins. They have some odd hours there and the place is tiny. It's good for lunch. There is also a place on 84 that I forget the name but we used to go there sometimes and it's good. It's one of those places that have been there for years and years. Scruby's - still my favorite. We have a place that just opened here in NJ now called Famous Daves and I think they are from the mid-west and they are pretty good. I don't get the baby backs however.
  2. I want to know when they are going to open one here in North Jersey/Essex county? It would do fantastic in the Livingston/Short Hills/North Caldwell/Montclair/etc. area. I believe the expense in purchasing property in this area my be very astronomical. I am sure it's part of the reason why you don't see a Wal-Mart in the area.
  3. Just a few notes. The Rascal house on Rt 46 closed and has been demolished. They had pretty much the same dog's as does the Hot Grill. I remember talking to the couple that owned it because they would give me a quart or so of the chili sauce to take back to Florida with me. When they closed down there was a sign out front directing people over to the Hot Grill in Clifton. Must be somehow related. Maybe john knows the story behind that. My dad is from Passaic and used to go to Rutt's when he was a kid. Do you all remember when the perfume plant was over there in Lackawana and it would smell like perfume outside of Rutt's Hut all the time? I also tried the Fallsview on Rt. 46 and did not like it at all. Out in Detroit they have their version of the Texas Weiner and they call it a "Coney" - it's like the north jersey ones, unlike the Plainfield/RT22 version. I also tried Texas Weiner II on Rt. 22 one evening on my way home from work and wasn't too thrilled either. We need to start a discussion about the "Frenchy's" with or without gravy or chili sauce. I think Hot Grill comes in first for a nice "Frenchy 1 - Gravy" gotta love that lingo! -Scott
  4. Last time I ate at Harolds in Parsippany - the matzo balls were sour and the pastrami was of poor quality. I also recall a disappointing experience the time before that. Might want to make a trial run for lunch and check it out first.
  5. Rachel, Now I am hungry.. how much for 2 dogs and a ice cold beer?
  6. I was in a farmers market on Rt. 46 in Totowa the other day and saw that they sell jars of the Sabrett onion sauce - the kind you get with your dirt water dog in the city. I am sure this sauce is available elsewhere but it caught my eye. p.s. This market has some nice looking fruit and vegetables, and less of a croud than Corrado's. The prices seem fair. It's on the east bound side set back just as you pass the Mitsubishi 46 auto dealer.
  7. I will have to do that Rachel. I know when I am back to FL on a more permanent basis I was going to ask about starting a Florida specific forum. I know there are many, many people that go back and forth between the Tri-State area up here and South Florida. Gotta love them "snowbirds"
  8. Hey all.. I am down here in FL for the weekend and I just passed a place called "Subpranos" - it's on Nob Hill just north of Cleary in Plantation if anyone knows the area. Thought that was cute, they even used the font of the Soprano's (in Red of course) I have also seen a place down here called Jersey Mike's. I think they are from South Jersey or "Down the shore" area.
  9. Hey Susan, I live in Verona and am stumped on a good suggestion for your quest for a yummy sub. I hate to say this but I will sometimes go to Blimpie. I know I am going to get heckled for saying that. When I am down in FL (my other home) I have a favorite spot down there.
  10. Oh ok. I always forgot about that other Bloomfield Avenue. I miss Bonds Ice Cream. It was loacted where the Dunkin' Donuts is now on the lower level or Stiretown. My dad told me stories of how they went there when he was a kid. He is from Passaic.
  11. What town is that located in?
  12. So any chance of finding a Chock-Full-Of-Nuts sign? Besides E-BaY of course!
  13. My friend told me that somewhere on 6th Avenue between 35th and 36th you can see remnants of an Automat sign. It's above a fruit stand. I guess this was a few years back. Fact or Fiction??
  14. Well there is always Ruth Chris across the street. But they have locations in several states.
  15. It's the one on Broadway and I guess 46th. Down the block from the Roxy.
  16. Well hello there neighbor!!
  17. If you feel like driving a bit farther, the Chart House in Weeeeeeeeeehakwin is nice. It is on the Hudson River overlooking Manhattan. Chart-House Weehawken You would just continue on route 3 east until near the Lincoln Tunnel.
  18. Weren't they marketing the Fried Clams frozen "in your grocer's freezer" at some point?
  19. Along with the board of bad service, board of overpriced eats, board of style, and most importantly the board of dirty john's.
  20. HOJO in Times Square closed by the board of health. Nice little notice posted on the doors. So much for pistachio ice cream!
  21. Hey thanks for the replies. I have been to Forte's a few times. I usually go to the take away side on the right. The pizza I had was pretty good and the place seems often busy. Rosie I have a feeling you live in the general area I do from the places you mention on the board here.
  22. I know this is a bit late but there is a really neat place on I-Drive (International Drive) called Bahama Breeze that's really fun. I remember that I liked the food and atmosphere and the prices were not touristy. I think they have a few of these places. I know I saw one in the Tampa area on the bay.
  23. Living in Boca Raton for like 10 years I can say that I don't like Tom's. People think I am nuts but there are other places that I like a lot better. My favorite is called Scruby's and they have locations in Davie and Hollywood, FL. Babybacks, cole slaw, sweet potato, garlic bread.. sweet tea.. yum yum yum

I went to NOLA a few years back and wasn't that impressed. I don't remember a lot about it but I was expecting better.
  25. Just curious if anyone has been to Luce on Bloomfield Avenue and if it was any good. I pass it all the time.
