  1. Congrats Nick. I will check out the article! -Scott
  2. I like to go to Costco during the week when it's a lot less crouded. Non food items that I find they have good prices on are Contact Lenses, Razor Blades, computer software, and sometimes clothing. I also love the chocolate covered raisins. I lived on my own in FL for many years and didn't hesitate to find a nice selection of frozen food that I could heat up each night for supper. I also would buy stuff for around the house such as cookware, plants, sometimes decorations, DVD's, etc. I bought a rolling black luggage (one of those upright ones with the handle and wheels at the bottom) in their name which is of excellent quality and I travel with it constantly.
  3. No need to be sorry. Can't sweat the small things in life! I hate being sick.. yuck! Hope the Rutt's didn't do it for me.
  4. My grandma made the best matza ball soup.. I miss her!
  5. Ok Nick.. it was nice to meet ALL of you! I got a nasty cold.. go easy on me! Where is a good place to get a nice bowl of chicken soup? -NJ2FLA (not to be confused with NY2FLA in the picture)
  6. I had a great time and it was really nice to meet some of you. Hope to do so again in the future. -Scott (NJ2FLA)
  7. I am looking forward to tomorrow night. I will be heading up the Parkway from a training class I am in all week in Red Bank (exit 109). Exit 153 is the exit number for Route 3 East. I usually go though the Delawana section of Clifton so I would not be good with specific directions. So how will I know everyone?
  8. Kids love hot dogs. That's why they are on every childrens menu! Looking forward to Wedneday! -Scott aka NJ2FLA
  9. I am so there! If it was a bit warmer I would even wear my Rutt's t-shirt! I doubt we would need to call ahead to get a table in the "dining room" If one had Rutt's for lunch what could they possibly eat for dinner? White Castle? Ohh your poor tummy!
  10. I know this is really out there.. But I was wandering around Rowe-Manse in Clifton (right off Route 3) which is now in the hands of a liquidator. They had a double barrel pickel display for sale for $100. It's like one of those displays you see on wheels around the deli counter. It also has clear plastic covers on the two barrels that it holds. Thought it would be cute for someone that might want to collect or use a display like that.
  11. Let's plan to meet up at Rutt's one evening in the next couple of weeks. Like a Wednesday around 7:00 PM. My old man told me that the back used to be the front, and vice versa before the highway was built. It's also fun to go on Tuesdays during the summer as they have a car show in the parking lot. March 5th or 11th is good for me. Any takers?
  12. All just thought of another one: Wedgewood Cafeteria - Montclair, NJ
  13. I just thought I would state the ovbious and suggest you go to Costco during the week and not on a weekend. The warehouses tend to be very busy on Saturday & Sundays. Personally I like the Bridgewater store. Found it to be very clean, nice help and typically quiet on a weeknight after work. I live close to the Willowbook (Wayne) store but don't go there too often. Costco's in Florida all had partitioned off liquor departments but I haven't noticed a store up here with the same.
  14. Oh wow Tommy I didn't know that. I have been living out of state for a while now and this is the first time I have been down in Hoboken in years.
  15. I was in Hoboken last night. No more Clam Broth House? Signs in the window about reopening 2/1/2003 - is it now a bar or nightclub?
  16. The jingle just came into my head.. Your going to get spoiled.. ... at Beefsteak Charlie's tonight!
  17. Went to the Argyle bunch of months back and found it. 1. Very expensive for what they serve. 2. VERY GREASY! We all felt sick after eating there.. never ever again. I would not recommend this place. I had some meat pie type things deep friend and others had some seafood dishes.
  18. There was one in Times Square but I believe it recently closed down for good. Last time I was in the city they were shut down by the Department of Health so I wouldnt go there anyhow.
  19. Just thought of another.. Victoria Station.. dine in a train car.. toot toot
  20. So the question is whether to try Charlie's or Syd's first???
  21. I'm in. Let me know. I work in Piscataway and can come home via 22 any night. Hmm.. love those Rutt's Hut onion rings.. will definately try the ones at Syd's when we go! I also love Italian hot dogs, so I'd be curious to try the place your daughter works at John. As long as you don't make me to go Jimmy Buff's - (bUrP)
  22. I think I am going to have to meet up with you John at one of our favorite places. I also tried the Texas Weiner II on Route 22 on my way home from work one evening. Maybe I am biased with growing up on Rutts & Hot Grill & Rascal house & JJ's (love them spicy onions) - that I somewhat wasn't too excited about the hot dogs there. Kind of the same impression I had of Callahans. I definately will have to check out Syd's soon. I live in Verona so I am pretty much in the middle of the hot dog mecca. I was asking about price because if these places are charging almost $2.00 for one hot dog - I was trying to calculate the profit. How many would you say come per lb. @ $2.99? Maybe it's time to quit the 9-5 and open up a hot dog shack? I also have a place in South Florida where a lot of the population comes from NY/NJ area. There are no good hot dog joints from my travels in the area down there. Now years ago the X-mayor of Wayne (Messercola?) opened a place on Sample Road in Pompano Beach and I think he used the Johnny & Hanges name.. but it didn't last. I know nothing about the resturant business but what a gold mine it could be with all the old timers and northerns down there! No white castle either for crying out loud!
  23. It's funny sometimes I am in the mood for Rutt's and sometimes I'd rather the Hot Grill. I used to go to Rascal on Route 46 in Totowa/West Paterson but they closed down. The Falls View across from the Home Depot on Rt 46 was terrible. John what do you think these places are paying their suppliers for these hot dogs?
  24. I was riding east on Route 46 and stopped at Callahan's last weekend. I had two regular hot dogs and some french fries. I had never been there before but just kind of followed what other people ordered. Nobody said "all the way" so I didn't want to look like a fool and order that. The hot dogs were pretty good but I wouldn't rush back there. I'd still rather go to the hot grill or Rutt's. I did like that fact that they had the hot onion topping - maybe the Sabrett brand? John? I also thought it was a bit pricey. Two dogs and a small french fry and a cup of water to drink was $7.90 If I was in the area and hungry again I would stop but not make an intentional trip.
  25. Hey Rosie I remember way back when that place was called the Mandarin. Used to go there years ago as a kid. I had lunch there a few months back (under the new name), but don't remember much of the meal to mention it.
