Just for sh*ts & giggles I bought a wee bottle of peppermint oil based mint flavoring at whole foods. Since I like to experiment with smoothies, I was looking for opinions of which, if any, fruit concoctions the stuff would work with. After all I got some positive feedback when I accidentally concocted my first blueberry smoothie with rosemary. Okay kiddies...3...2...1...discuss!~

Though under the auspices of NYC Water Board, I believe Im still on supply by the Long Island wells of the late Jamaica Water Supply. Despite the nasty things theyve said about it over the years, Ive yet to sprout a tail or have my liver sprout through my navel.

Fyre~ welcome to the asylum That was a phenominal post...be it first, last, or somewhere in the middle. Based on what you went through in that culinary hell...all I have to say is kick off your waitressing shoes...pop your feet up on the coffee table and Id be PROUD to massage them for you just before freshening the nail polish on the toes. Finally a place that sounds worse than macy*s in terms of crap you had to deal with. Can I get you anything while youre here?

reproduce far enough in advance of the event so that the little rugrats are old enough to do *their* share of the cleaning. like most of it

I know EXACTLY what life is like sans chocolate. Been on this @#$%^& diet for life for five years....and the body is getting less and less tolerant of cheating.

Morbier~ Once took some to the firehouse as a nosh. One genius described it as tasting like a diaper. But man what a fragrance on that stuff. Taleggio...never saw one reeeeeeeeeally stinky.

I have a stove top toaster...wish I could lay my hands on US Military issue cookware just for kicks...a friend who shares my passion for WW2 stuff once waved a WW2 Army issue muffin pan under my nose hed just scored. Id really sell my soul for a set of ANY vintage USMC issue recipe cards. You know...recipe for Shit On Shingle....two sides of beef splattered by multiple rounds from a .50 cal machine gun, 50 gallons milk, 100 pounds salt etc etc

Where can I get the pasteurized eggs I saw * I THINK* Alton Brown talk about? I tried my Whole Foods out on LI, no luck. They supposedly do it by introduction of low level heat....causing a slightly cloudy albumen. Which I could really care less about.

You think he's trying to keep it on the QT? I think I saw him today on the BMT....or was it the IRT...

Im anything but smug or scientific..but how do YOU know about who my father is when even *I* dont? But seriously ladies and germs....I like Alton cuz hes offbeat and just a bit to the left of center. I identify with my own. But as is evidenced here somewhere on the site, I really like Bourdain too because of HIS think out of the box style. Id GLADLY cook for either one of them at work Oh....Sara Moulton too...Ive spoken to her on air several times...she good people!~

Do the olives tend to have sulfites? Ive been a die hard Sahadis fav for almost as long as Ive worked nearby....but Ive been told there that theirs dont have sulfites. How about the ones up on Arthur Ave (I seriously doubt no sulfites is a specialty thing...). Just for once Im gonna have to make a pilgrimage to Da Bronx. God help me lol. Theyll void my Brooklyn passport!~

German Potato Salad 3 lb small red-potatoes (about 2 inches in diameter), washed well 10 slices bacon, cut crosswise into 1/4-inch strips (about 1/2 pound) 1 large onion, chopped (about 1 1/2 cups) 1/2 tsp sugar 3 T cider vinegar 3/4 c beef broth 2 T chopped fresh parsley leaves In a large saucepan combine potatoes with salted water to cover by 1 inch and simmer until just tender, about 20 minutes. While potatoes are cooking, in a large heavy skillet cook bacon over moderate heat, stirring, until browned and crisp and transfer with a slotted spoon to paper towels to drain. Drain potatoes and let stand until cool enough to handle. Cut potatoes into eighths and in a bowl combine with bacon. Keep mixture warm, covered. Pour off all but 3 tablespoons fat from skillet and sauté onion over moderately high heat, stirring, until softened, about 3 minutes. Add sugar, 2 tablespoons vinegar, and broth and simmer 2 minutes. Add onion mixture to warm potatoes with parsley and remaining 1 tablespoon vinegar, tossing gently, and season with salt and pepper. Serve potato salad warm or at room temperature, garnished with parsley Keywords: Salad, Potatoes ( RG374 )

What does it taste like? How was that original first sip? Who put you up to this? You are a brave man, NYfirepatrolchef! Its kinda a mild nondescrirpt slightly nutty taste...if you get the right brand (with some form of sweetener like in my case a rice based sweetener) its not bad at all...some vary in viscosity as well. The first sip was a relief because when I was placed on this diet (medically necessitated) that forbade me dairy (among other things) it was a relief because I thought Id never make french toast or anything needing milk again. Brave...nah...I just hate cereal with water on it....and hot cereals....with water? GUH*ROSS!~ One does what one must out of necessity.

full fat soy milk....westbrae brand. Once youre used to it its good stuff. When I think of it I get the vanilla one for smoothies.

Lamb~ Im sincerely sorry about the loss of your father. Talk to people about it....when you want and need to...it helps. India~ I used to make myself nutz over worrying what Id be like once either of my parents died. Try not to do that to yourself...sooner or later....its gonna happen. It wont be easy when it does...but why give yourself grief ahead of time. And ironically...I recently became more like Kat. A shifting of manpower on my Group at work resulted in me being the senior man on back of the truck. So...Live Bait....7PM when? -

Unless it has to be a real person~ From Erich Maria Remarque's ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT... Stanislaus Katczynski...Polish named German Solider. "Kat", as introduced by Richard Thomas (in character of Paul Baumer), had a nose for bad weather and good food. Especially when there was none. I see a lot of myself in Kat. Im part Polish...I have a nack for good food. Specially when I dont think there is. Thats where I surprise myself and come up with something good. But I part company with both versions of Kat (Louis Wolheim in 1930 and for god sake Ernest Borgnine...an Italian playing a Polish guy in the German Army) when it comes to body girth. I always wondered how a Pole wound up in the German Army. Less he was from Silesia or what evolved into the Danzig Corridor. -
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay TRISH!~ Nice ta meetcha too! *plants tongue firmly in cheek before saying.....* Julias CHILD??? Youre gonna take cooking advice from a lil KID???
