ATK isn’t any better after he left. I really do understand that they are a business and need to profit. But there is a long tradition of giving a free taste in hopes of selling a meal. The taste that ATK and Milk St leaves is bitter.

I've read that Ina Garten does her TV stuff just to feed her book sales. Which is fine with me. And I don't begrudge Dorie her book income. We all have expenses.

We've discussed this somewhere on eG. The cold oil method works great in my hands. The objection that it would make fries greasy doesn't hold up unless you have battered the fries with something. Oil will penetrate batter but not a very moist stick of potato. here it is...

Think twice about that pool. Outside of opening and closing I do all the work myself ...couple hours a week if all is going well. Costs maybe 1.5 to 2k a year with opening and closing and chemicals. Now that the kids are gone I regret having the thing. But it looks nice.

re tonic water. Schwepp's is indeed the best and their diet tonic is as well. But in a pinch I'm happy to drink the Polar brand which is pretty close to Schwepp's and nowhere as cloyingly sweet as Canada Dry

I tried @Smithy roasted cauliflower. But I didn’t have sesame paste. So I used dark miso. And added harissa. Very nice. Probably nothing like the original. But nice. Can’t wait to try the real thing.
