  1. I feel your loss Anne, I feel your loss. I had the smae face/feelings when my turbobroiler/convection oven died 6 months ago. Hugs...
  2. Suzy, I am also truly enjoying your blog and seeing some of my country's cuisine and even one of my countrymen. Or shall I say countrywoman. I was surprised to see that the Dole souvenir store had souvenirs made mostly in the Philippines. Then again, Dole has the biggest pineapple and banana plantation in Mindanao and labour is so cheap back in the Philippines. I look forward to seeing more pics and more of the good food in your home and in Oahu.
  3. Tammy - what a wonderful New Year spread. Thank you for sharing your feast with us. My favorite is the Scallops with leeks, trout roe caviar and champagne cream sauce. I can almost taste it and feel the texture in my mouth. Happy New Year!
  4. Thank you very much for the list. I look forward to browsing and experimenting with the food recipes I find in there.
  5. Singapore Chili Garlic Crab and Crab Curry!
  6. I knew Andie would come around and share the thread where the great ketchup recipes are. Thanks Andie!
  7. Hmmm... the kimpira sounds delish! I might try that tomorrow! Thanks for the tip Suzy! That's one less strange vegetable off my list (living in Korea has made me come up with a list of strange/unknown food items)...
  8. Suzy, have you ever tried cooking with Gobo (burdock root)? I always seen it here in the Korean supermarkets and always wondered how you would fix such a long root.
  9. In the Philippines, my late gradfather would make us drink rootbeer with a raw egg in it. It was gross and yucky but late Granddad thought it would make us grow stronger. I still shudder at the thought of that concoction going down my throat.
  10. Sazji!!!!! I got my LOKUM package today! Since it is freezer cold in Korea, I had to let the package come to room temperature (when I got it from our friendly postman - it was hard as a rock). When I figured it was time to open it, I found.... A sugar-covered treasure.... With trembling hands, I choose one ... It had ground nuts in it... (I almost fainted with delight) Next one.... This one had rosewater flavor and I think cinnamon in it.. Last one (I swear...) It had pistachios in it (MY FAVORITE!!!)... There were five varieties and I had 10 pieces (I had to taste each flavor twice to make sure what they are... ) I find myself reaching again into the box... somebody stop me.. they are so goood! Sazji, your Korean sweets will be on their way to you soon! I expect a full report like this. Once again, from the bottom of my heart - maraming salamat. Thank you very much.
  11. This year's Christmas had me making Chinese food on Christmas day and the day after. I made Mapo Tofu with beansprouts pancakes as a side dish on Christmas day. The next day, I fixed steamed spareribs with bean sauce, chopseuy and crispy dried anchovies. My kids are loving it!
  12. John - beautiful sesame cookies and your Sospiri e Désirs made me sigh and desire it!
  13. What a fantastic dinner Chris! Kudos to you, your impressive courses and the wonderful pictures. Thank you for sharing and for making me hungry (again).
  14. Hubby did, although he had to wipe the icing off and salted it and popped the tomato in his mouth. The kids and I demolished the fruits and the cake.
  15. Ah Leung - once again, I'd like to thank you for teaching me how to fix this amazing recipe (Mapo Tofu). I roasted and ground my own Szechuan peppercorns. After that, cooking it was a breeze. I gave some to my best friend (who raved about it later) and now am having leftovers over rice. I can't believe how good it taste cold too.
  16. Wow! That looks amazing. I'm copying this down since I am a bean sprouts fan. Thanks Ah Leung!
  17. For Christmas lunch, we went chinese. I fixed Mapo Tofu for the first time. Thank you Ah-Leung for the very informative pictorial. And bean sprouts pancake (okoy) to cut the heat down a little...
  18. Kris - I feel your pain. Here's a Christmas cake given to me by my friends today... Yes, that is a cherry tomato on top, not a cherry.
  19. For us, we just bought one big toy for our kids (ages 11 and 6) and none for me and my hubby. We have all want and need and have just settled to preparing what we WANT for Christmas dinner. Christmas lunch is mapo tofu with shrimp fritters as a side dish. Christmas dinner is roast beef with mashed taters and gravy. Now how easy is that?
  20. Slathered with garlic and then steamed with beer. Layout newspapers and pour the cooked shrimps on them and dig in.
  21. Jkonick - thank you for the wonderful pictures, descriptive food tales and those delicious photos. It was nice to see Seattle from your point of view and to see someone truly relishing Asian food.
  22. Yippee! Another wonderful food blog. I look forward to seeing your posts about the food and traditions there in Hawaii. I have a friend who lives there and we constantly trade recipes and food tips. Good luck on your blogging and mahalo for sharing.
  23. What a wonderful Christmas treat! Thanks for sharing Chef Crash! Those decorations on the cake is making me happy too. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
