  1. even better with crumbled blue cheese and tomatoes.....
  2. Un-indicted or not!
  3. Main was the leftover Italian beef chopped up and mixed with the leftover carrots, some sautéed onions, more carrots, some peas and the leftover jus that I thickened just a bit with a slurry. Topped with mashed potatoes and finished with olive oil for 30 minutes in the oven. Happy.
  4. Yeah ... what she said. Can't wait for the next visit when ... hopefully ... the duo will be reunited in mayhem and tomfoolery.
  5. Though it is supposed to warm up here by midweek, it is a COLD weekend here. Last night Johnnybird asked for coq au vin so he got that with his beloved egg noodles. I hate to clean pearl onions so I cheated ... frozen and thawed. Really nice sauce with a pinot noir and homemade chicken stock. The leftover mushrooms are going to be a starter for todays dinner with the stems minced and then sautéed and mixed with some Parmesan and basil soft cheese. Still no idea what the main may be...
  6. I make chili verde but with finely chopped pork ... and don't forget the chili lime Cholula hot sauce.
  7. Roasts on sale at a local supermarket so I picked up a 2.5 lb beef one...Italian beef for dinner. I don't have a rack for my roaster so made a vege rack with carrots. Roasted new potatoes and the jus made a wonderfully hearty dinner. Leftover thinly sliced beef, the jus and some crusty rolls promise to be lunch ... or maybe dinner today. Johnnybird declared the carrots to be some of the best he has had. Ususally he wants them steamed then dressed with sage honey and olive oil but these were perfectly cooked and savory.
  8. Not to mention that you CAN get good, fresh fish ..... SIGH.
  9. Leftover onion soup with half a blt with cheese. simple but satisfying.
  10. Shelby Hippo birdie two ewes!!!! A kindred spirit you are. I am not a big sweets fan but I ADORE Boston Crème Pie. I made one about 3 weeks ago - semi homemade. I made the ganache and the pastry crème then visited one of my local stores that has a bakery department. For 3.00 I was able to buy two 9" rounds of a basic vanilla cake. SCORE! Reheat the ganache a bit so you can pour it in the middle of the top and encourage it to gently drip down the sides.
  11. Zuni Café......I am SOOOO late to this party. A biography of Andre Leon Talley and one of Diana Vreeland and a book of dollar bill origami just because. The one book I didn't want to put down and didn't want to end is Stir : my broken brain and the meals that brought me home by Jessica Fechtor who was a 28 year old recently married woman when she suffered a brain aneurysm. How she used cooking and her memories of cooking to help come back from something that could have easily have devastated anyone. Towards the end of her recovery one of her friends suggested she start a food blog and she did, Sweet Amandine. Host's note: this topic became too large for our servers to handle efficiently, so was cut into segments. The next segment, beginning in 2016, may be found here.

  19. not exactly........homemade egg pasta, thick cut with olive oil (Johnnybird will not eat butter).
  20. No freaking clue for tonight.... Johnnybird and his brother are flying in from London. Supposedly they are getting dinner on the plane but the Cookie Monster(John's brother) is known to demand and devour food at all times of the day and night. I roasted a chicken that was stuffed with parsley, lemon and garlic. I also am cooking some noodles and some green beans with carrots. First scenario is I slice the chicken and serve over the noodles with the green beans and carrots; secondly would be enough time to make a gravy with the pan drippings and mix all together with some sautéed mushrooms. Just hoping to have some of the dark meat and veg to make a kind of cottage pie with some leftover mash and the veg. Perfect for this cool and rainy weather
  21. had some local apples that were given to us - not sure but think they were pippins, the folk had no idea and neither do I. chunked up and made into a cranberry and apple bake with a n oatmeal streusel. Not sweet at all and topped with some aged cheddar that melted - like apple pie but without the flabby crust.
  22. Lisa, isn't that the Suzi-homemaker version. Hey, got you all talking didn't I??
