  1. John's idea of French toast has now devolved into this: start heating pan up beat up eggs soak bread in eggs add olive oil to hot pan put bread in pan with olive oil Cook until LIGHTLY browned - do NOT get any kind of heavy brown on the bread. If you do scrape off - it will cause cancer. Top with real maple syrup.

@liamsaunt, I am strangely, inextricably drawn to that chicken. Did you use a particular recipe?
  3. Before all the cold hit us I harvested all the parsley I could but covered up the little bitty shoots. Today went out and checked them and they survived!!! Also got this year's yellow primrose on sale at our local Shoprite. Will put it into the ground to join the other eight or so I have and it will bloom again later in the fall.

    Dinner 2018

John has been eating on the arroz con pollo. I had gone shopping this morning and bought a loaf of Thomas' cranberry swirl bread. Toasted that up then thinly sliced turkey, cranberry sauce and some miracle whip and a cup of hot tea.

    Dinner 2018

Last night arroz con pollo when John finally got home. Served with some sautéed red kale and garlic. Leftovers for tonight.
  6. 1 slice of Portuguese sweet bread, miracle whip, cranberry sauce and thin sliced turkey breast...........makes me really, really happy. Added a small salad of red chard leaves, minced up Persian cucumbers and a light vinaigrette. Course I had the same thing for dinner last night but added some Mr. Ron's coleslaw to it just for the vegetables.
  7. Finally feeling human after having a horrendous head cold and just put a set of Portuguese sweet bread to rise. Hopefully by dinner I will have some golden loaves so I can put my leftover turkey on them with some miracle whip and cranberry sauce.

    Dinner 2018

using up our Christmas leftover turkey breast... or least part of it. I had leftover turkey stock, leftover gluten-free spaghetti and the turkey breast so for John I chunked up some of the meat, warmed up the pasta, made gravy with the stock and had rehydrated some mushrooms which got sautéed with some minced onion and garlic and all mixed together with some frozen petite peas. Into a casserole with a dusting of panko and grated Italian cheeses. I heated up some sausage dressing, peas and carrots and mashed potatoes then added some turkey and gravy with cranberry sauce. Thinking about turkey pot pie for tomorrow. I'm pulling some ground bison for a burger....starting to get tired of turkey.
  9. "buttery crackers" some cheese from Aldi, some red Anjou pear slices and a throwback to my childhood - those "buttery crackers" with a thin layer of Miracle Whip and a thin slice of blue cheese...........extra grapes on the side but NOT bubbly
  10. less than 32F out the kitchen door......
  11. Well the turkey breast is thawed and will be removed from the frame to be dry brined for the next 24+ hours in the fridge. Bones will go to make stock - especially as the outdoor freezer is working right now. Thawing some sage sausage to go into the dressing. Baked sweet potatoes, young multi colored carrots and peas. Oh, yeah and that canned cranberry sauce.
  12. too bad you aren't closer to us..........
  13. do you at least have a gym nearby??????? John is due back later today and I picked up a half pound of shrimp. Making something for him I haven's I years .... shrimp etouffee with some rice.
  14. Some nice swag there. John and I don't celebrate our holiday until New Year's Eve and follow that up with a birding trip on New Year's day as we head north to be with his family during Christmas itself. My sister-in-law did give me some solid beechwood cheese markers. John is going to get wild blueberry jam from upstate NY, beach plum jam from Rea's farm in Cape May, pure maple gold nuggets from upstate NY and a pina colada rum cake from Bermuda.
  15. Maybe Wendy's?
  16. Popeye's....Louisiana fine...... we ate at Popeye's while John was TDY back in 1985.....supposedly one of the first ones in Slidell
  17. I have had a beef bottom round marinating in red wine, vinegar, carrots, onions, mixed picking spices, juniper berries and bay leafs since Tuesday. Just searing the dried roast off. Deglazing the pan with the remainder of the red wine, adding back the meat , fresh veg and the marinating liquid. About 3 hours from now I will add in some crushed gingersnaps after taking the bay leaves out in order to thicken the gravy. Sauerbraten with red cabbage, potato pancakes(not spaetzle ( like John's grandmother taught me ... this time) and applesauce for dinner.
  18. got a jump on shoveling the 2" plus we got here overnight. not going out for my morning meeting as I have to uncover my car yet. starving so just got the coffee going, the leftover potato wedges are cut up and ready to go into a pan but more importantly diced onion and some Mary Kitchen corned beef hash is slowly working a crust and eggs are ready to hard scramble.
  19. Last year I asked our local Shoprite if they could get some other kinds of fish.....like Arctic char which is one of my favorites. Lo and behold this week they have it. I grabbed a filet yesterday and sautéed it then served with roasted potato wedges and steamed broccoli hollandaise. Leftovers for lunch later.
  20. @patris....went to school at SUC Fredonia. Loved both the Fredonia style and the Buffalo style beef on weck......especially the weck!!!!!! I learned to make it myself since you can't get it east of Syracuse. we used to go to Schwable's in Buffalo but a college friend lived near Swiston's and we would stop there after we went up to the falls on the way back home. I still make Italian beef for sammies but it is more Chicago style.
  21. OK.....so make a roasted vegetable sandwich on a weck roll. Or slater the pimento cheese on one.
  22. WHAT????? No beef on weck from Swiston's????
  23. on this snowy Saturday(sorry dear Shelby) turkey vegetable chili for me and a chicken stew for John. It is one I am testing for someone and the only comment I got was that it didn't have enough potatoes to protein. He did say the spices/veg were good. I explained...yet again...when testing I have to make the recipe to specs so I can identify any problems. Now, for him, I can make extra potatoes and some carrots to add to the stew . Also making some green beans to add as asked. OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!! He is asking for some veg it IS a Christmas miracle. (sorry for being so snarky).
  24. poached eggs on gluten free bread with thinly sliced smoked ham and Hollandaise sauce for John - at 130 pm. black coffee for me
  25. @MetsFan5 ohhhhh how I can relate. I had MAJOR dental surgery done 7 years ago. I used balanced supplements and greek yoghurt with fruit purees, soups like split pea and butternut. Applesauce, mashed sweet or white potatoes, well cooked green beans, miso soup all worked well. My favorite though brought me back to my childhood Beech - nut used to make this fruit thing with tapioca. When Johnnybird had a major infection and came close his Thanksgiving dinner went into the blender. Hang in there
