    Breakfast 2019

high falutin' eggy potatoes😁 sour cream(Julia Turshen's) pancakes with blueberries when John eventually wakes up. In the meantime - maybe should be snacking while eGulleting - some Utz's fried dill pickle chips. Made a quick trip to the Shoprite for the blueberries, some Ben and Jerry's non-dairy ice cream for John, chips for him and saw those dill pickle chips and had to have them...

    Breakfast 2019

meatloaf sandwich on rye. as far as I am concerned the ONLY reason to make meatloaf is for the sandwiches later.

    Dinner 2019

Inspired by posts here had chicken "parm" over Rana pappardelle(on sale with coupon at the local Shoprite). Sauteed some leftover thin chicken breasts then put over some heated marinara then topped with a thin slice of provolone picante - instead of the parm because I really like it. Red leaf salad, grape tomatoes, olives and a simple vinaigrette.
  4. Faux pho for John after a dental appointment. Chicken stock, cinnamon, ginger coins, star anise, onion, bok choy, scallions, garlic, thinly sliced chicken breast and chopped up shrimp with rice pho noodles.

    Dinner 2019

So.... was going to try out a recipe that was an arctic char en papillote with a sauce of capers, shallot, olive oil, sherry vinegar and capers and asparagus. Only problem was that the local Shoprite was out of char. Bought a piece of salmon and made it for John ( as many times as I have tried salmon including fresh in Washington state I just can't stand the taste - I do like char, though). Made the recipe and served with wild and brown rice that had some scallions mixed in. I had half a pear and some Ewe's blue cheese.

quiche...sautéed onion and chopped asparagus spears, minced smoked ham and some grated emmentaler cheese. small red leaf lettuce salad.
  7. not missing much unless you are having a GI series done then it is just the thing. I used to like McDonald's fries but really like the taste of the SMALL Five Guys fries. I still can't eat all of them but they hold up to future use.
  8. NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Don't come back home. It is going to be a disaster for the next few days. Stay there and drink and eat!!!

    Dinner 2019

I think it may have been back in the 1970's when last ate "Shake and Bake". After reading this thread I was moved to make my own version and made some pork chops. They were crispy and juicy and I served my chop with a baked potato, granny smith applesauce and some blistered green beans with sautéed garlic. I have two left and hopefully John will deign to taste at least one of them.

    Dinner 2019

If you make the tiramisu please use the hard Italian NOT the soft ladyfingers. We mixed Kahula with espresso for the soaking liquid. I worked at a bakery where the owner was of Polish and Italian heritage and we made tiramisu, panna cotta and cassata siciliana. I had made the last with my friend's mom, Connie, years ago but you do need time to produce it.

You got your snow?!!? pictures please.
  16. I had a bit of a bad reaction to mushrooms a couple of months ago and I am taking a bit of a break but will judiciously add them back in a while.
  17. So took a free turkey breast from the freezer last weekend, roasted it and neither John nor his sister ate it. OK then.... we did eat on some of the breast with (almost) their mom's sausage stuffing and a good sweet potato casserole during the week. I ate Rachels and turkey sandwiches with cranberry relish on thin white bread. Now, John has gone up to climb ice in the Adirondacks so the last of the breast will be split between a small turkey pot pie with fresh carrots and some roasted sweet potatoes and a small turkey tetrazzini without the mushrooms Now I am ready for something else..
  18. Just came across a note I made. A book some of you might be interested in is called Caroline: Little House, revisited by Sarah Miller. It was authorized by The Little House Heritage Trust.
  19. I lied... made bucatini with black olives and red sauce for me.....also red leaf lettuce salad for both...IF he wakes up. The vampire is back and he finally went to bed at 0600. Got up about 1300. Went back down about 1500. Should be interesting to see when he leaves to head up to the Adirondacks for ice climbing for the long weekend. I tell people we bed share - I sleep from 2300 to 0700 and he sleeps from 0500(or so) until 1200.
  20. So it's THAT day again. I'm making John pasta with sautéed shrimp, olives and pesto. I'm having stewed tomato with cheese toasties. Chocolate mousse for him for dessert.
  21. I can NOT believe you said Meals on Wheels. The reason is in a local magazine there was a joke : A cat dies and goes to Heaven. God meets him at the gate and says, ‘You’ve been a good cat all of these years. Anything you desire is yours, all you have to do is ask.’ The cats says, ‘Well, I lived all my life with a poor family on a farm and had to sleep on hardwood floors.’ God says, ‘Say no more.’ And instantly, a fluffy pillow appears. A few days later, 6 mice are killed in a tragic accident and they go to Heaven. God meets them at the gate with the same offer that He made the cat. The mice said, ‘All our lives we’ve had to run. We’ve been chased by cats, dogs and even women with brooms. If we could only have a pair of roller skates, we wouldn’t have to run anymore.’ God says, ‘Say no more.’ And instantly, each mouse is fitted with a beautiful pair of tiny roller skates. About a week later, God decides to check and see how the cat is doing. The cat is sound asleep on his new pillow. God gently wakes him and asks, ‘How are you doing? Are you happy here?’ The cat yawns and stretches and says, “Oh, I’ve never been happier in my life. And those Meals on Wheels you’ve been sending over are the best!”

Breakfast for dinner last night for me... scrambled eggs with the green part of some scallions, homefries with the white part of some scallions and some turkey bacon with some toasted bread. John has been eating on the turkey breast with gravy, mashed sweet potatoes and sage sausage cornbread stuffing with onions and apple.

    Breakfast 2019

back from a quick stop at our local Shoprite(no Ritz crackers, non-dairy ice cream or pomegranate/carrot juice in the house for himself) and a meeting just as it began to really snow around here. I had picked up some thinly sliced Finlandia lacey swiss. Had on hand some nice bread, the roasted turkey breast, some fancy pants sauerkraut from Wegmans and Thousand Island dressing.....a Rachel for breakfast with some added spicy bread and butter pickles.
