but...but....but....doesn't the alcohol kill the parasites?? ← It doesn't seem to have done much to Scud. Serena's a little young..... ← hmmm Peter, now you mention it, my daughter should by rights be dead ....whereas my son tells me it kills the palate and to extrapolate, I believe I'm in trouble

but...but....but....doesn't the alcohol kill the parasites?? ← oh, I'm sure the alcohol does kill the parasites but my friend was advising me not to take the raw blood etc by itself,..... not that I had to be persuaded

Knowing my penchant for snake soup in HK a doc. friend there advised me against giving the beating heart/blood a go in China due parasites therein

That's a NO on the guess for #174. So here's another clue - The actor won't eat the banana, but does chew the scenery. ← hmmm sounds like an animal in a movie shoot??
-
1492 - Conquest of Paradise was visually breathtakingly beautiful, had corn and bananas and was a crock of sh1t IMHO...could it be #174? actually thinking of all the movies set in Central AmericanI have seen and I can't remember the food in any of them....

loving it, Peter....for some reason the frog reminds me of Rudolf Nureyev (or a female weightlifter)

the only movie I can think of with a pomegranate in it and an old man eating it (Charles Aznavour) is Ararat but I can't remember if it was at an airport....it was at the Canadian border but I found the film so rambling I lost interest (even tho the Armenian genocide topic had led me to going to see it)

You're a better man than I am Erica, gave up on the Au Pied de Cochon online after shredding my hair for a few hours and have asked a friend to get it for me...can't wait, but I will have to edited to add, do you ever use the piglets Spanish style (v. young??) probably a stupid question but are there laws regarding the minimum age for eating here? Also thinking about teeny tiny lambs.

hehehe, thanks for reminding me FFB, just recalled that Singaporeans fell for a similar McD's promotion a few years later (allowing us HK'ers to regain face)....remember the Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel debacle.... "We wish to extend our sincere apologies and thanks to the Singapore Police Force, Ministry of the Environment, Singapore Civil Defense Force, and everyone who has been inconvenienced during this promotion." said McD's PR dept hahahaha after 300,000 people decided they didn't want to miss out on a TOY.
-
Reading this thread has transported me back to Hong Kong, 1998 and the infamous McDonalds Snoopy from 28 different Countries promotion (and riots); after unexpected success with Winnie the Pooh toys, Macky D's has HK'ers queueing through the night for the toys which were free with a Big Value Meal, it would have been funny if it hadn't have been so tragic....OK it WAS funny, people were throwing the meals away to get the Snoopies and by day 2 the homeless and poor, realising that for once they were on a winner in consumer ridden HK were circling McD's,.... pushers in were beaten up ..... the South African Embassy complained that there were no black Snoopies which McD's explained away as 'an oversight'...these riots not to be confused with the HK Maria's cake shop coupon riots......

As a very long term resident of a country where vigorous and noisy throat clearing and spitting was ( and to some extent still is) considered normal I have on more than one occasion been with overseas visitors who when hearing the 'revving up' rather than the actual act have dry heaved or on one memorable occassion, actually vomited. I have become immune but perhaps the sound is what posters above are objecting to, rather than the illness??

or this life if he upsets the wrong people there

wow, I can smell the ozone; Wendy what is the difference in taste between the 2 types of oysters you used? Was it a special occasion?? (champagne )

eG Foodblog: jgarner53 - New kitchen: new food
insomniac replied to a topic in Food Traditions & Culture
thanks so much Jennifer; as someone who has spent most of her life crawling all over allegedly more exotic climes I loved sharing your life for a week. I'm full of admiration with your determination to carve a new career, jealous that you share your life with a beer specialist , and love your furry friend and most of all your new kitchen (as I also have no drawers in mine)
