Our local supermarket( division of Loblaw's) has a promotion where if you take one of their bags to your vacation, and you take a pic of yourself with the bag, you'll get your photo's developed for free.

Thats the one thing I hate about mine. It does travel........ In our new kitchen, I had an appliance lift installed. I'm hoping the KD will find a way to anchor it there or else I wont be able to use it since it tends to move when I make bread.

My New GE Profile Oven has this feature!!

I've had my KA for about 15yrs. Its only 325W and I thought about replacing it and moving up to a bigger/badder model. However after reading( I think it was on EG actually) that the newer KA's arent as reliable as the older KA's I decided to keep it. When I moved to Ontario, I shipped it from California and the sliding part broke. I found a service center in London and it was fixed up good as new( for 15 bucks!!)

Zingerman's is expensive. But its Good!!( I'm not talking about the burger's since I've never had one) You pay for quality ingredients. End of story!!

Mark, Are you in Phx now? Any plans to try Pizzeria Bianco? You must so I can live vicariously thru you. I lived in Phx for 2 yrs( before I was a foodie). I can't believe I never ate there!! -
Next time your in S. Florida, you might want to try Billy's Stone Crabs. I've never eaten there, but I have heard good things. We'll be in the area for Xmas so I might give it a try.

My sister loves the Publix brand Ice cream. I think her favorite is Light tiramasu.

Did you get them at Big Lots in the US, or Odd Lots in Canada? I'm hoping you meant Odd Lots--my mother loves Cajeta and Dulce de Leche and all that stuff, so if they have it at Odd Lots, she'll be very happy! Anyone know where I can get goats milk in Japan? Maybe I can try making my own here. ← Sorry to dissapoint, but I bought it at Big Lots in Hollywood, FL. We were there( visiting my family) right before I began my first foodblog. We're going for xmas so if they have more, I'll grab one for your mom and mail it to her when I get back to Ontario.

Ever heard of the Ghetto Latte? Order a large house coffee or Americano at Starbucks, go to the condiment bar and empty out half of your coffee and fill it with milk. Ghetto Latte for about 1.00-1.50 cheaper!! ( I dont do this, I dont drink coffee, I just read about it somewhere) Starbucks doesnt care either, they say " The condiment bar is for the customers"

And the featured sushi is California Roll... CAN you freeze avocado? Wouldn't it get slimy? Ewwwwwwwww.... ← When I first moved to Ontario from California, I'd see haas avocado's on clearance for 99cents( and that was for 10 of them). I succesfully freeze them( and I show you how in my first EG foodblog). I scoop them out of the shell, throw a few pits in and cover with a layer of lime juice. When I'm ready to use them, I scrape off the top layer and make quacamole with them. I usually use them in a 7 layer dip where you can't really see them. They lose some of their vibrant green color, but the flavor is still there.

I read an article in last month's vegetarian times that Chrissy Hyne of the Pretenders was opening a vegetarian restaurant in Akron. Not sure if its open yet. Maybe Tino27 will weight in!!

We're almost finished with our kitchen remodel. The kitchen was gutted and we started from scratch. I did hire a KD and I regret that. Shortly after hiring him and deciding on cabinets/layout, I found GardenWeb. The kitchen and appliance forum over there have been invaluable. Its amazing to me the length people over there go to help strangers. I just had a woman photoshop a backsplash tile I was thinking about into a pic of my kitchen. I've seen pages and pages of help with kitchen layouts. Our Kitchen is a lot smaller )12x 20) so I didnt have much options with appliances, etc. Good luck!!

My new oven automatically reduces the temp by 25F if I use the convection feature. I made a honey oat sandwich loaf( KA flour whole grain baking). I used the regular oven and it came out fine. Next time I'll try the convection. Is there a benefit to using the convection feature?

We have a brand new oven. A GE profile, dual fuel with convection. I baked some cookies with the convection feature and they came out great. I was hesitant to bake a loaf of bread using the convection feature though. I'm not sure why, I thought it might deflate it or dry it out. What do you think? Yes or No?

This happened to me last month. While I had a batch of white chocolate brownies ready to go into the oven. I put them in and they did bake, but by the next morning, the oven was shot. My spouse went up to the hardware store and bought a new element( 30 bucks) and replaced it. I had a catering job the following week or else I would have said Forget it because we were gutting our entire kitchen a few weeks later and replacing all the appliances.

So you skipped the arborio? Mmmmm, it looked fabulous, and I don't even like rice pudding (or I haven't had any I've liked). Was it just cinnamon you sprinkled on top? ← Yep, skipped the arborio. I wanted to use Kerry's recipe, but her recipe used the oven and the recipe I used cooked on top of the stove. Yes, Cinnamon on top, lots of it......

I think you're looking at the saran wrap( cling film). This pudding didnt form a skin. Speaking of rice pudding, are those rice pudding restaurants still in business( I think it was in NY)

Heres the waldorf salad. I used 9lbs of apples, 1 bunch of celery, half a bag of raisins and walnuts( toasted) and some mayo mixed with vanilla yogurt. I used some lemon juice from the pantry too. I made broccoli in the microwave using zip-n-steam bags. I love those bags, so easy. I'm bummed though that they arent recycleable.

Yesterday's meal was Ham, scalloped potatoes, waldorf salad, corn muffins, fresh brocoli and rice pudding. Here is the rice pudding. I spent a total of 106.94. 41 ppl showed up and I had 7 take-outs(6.00) and I sold 8 packages of ham only for 2.00 each. I only spent 27.44 on the ham. It was 1.49lb which is really cheap. I did spend 14.00 on russet potatoes. I could have bought new potatoes cheaper, but I prefer russets for baking, mashing and scalloped. Each 5lb bag was 3.49. I used a lot of dairy for this meal 2L of half and half( 2.99 each). 1L of heavy cream and 12L of 2% for 4.00 each( on sale). I also bought 500grams of cheddar for 4.99.

I will second the nod for the "Food for 50" book. It is really quite a handy reference. I am also cooking for between 25-50 every Sunday for a non-profit community group, and I have found this book to be extremely helpful. The retail price is something like $60, but I got a used copy from Amazon for around $12. It does not have a lot of fancy or gourmet recipes, but it is perfect for these types of functions (serving large quantities of food to people with conservative palates, on a very tight budget). It also has helpful sections regarding menu planning, portions, cost control, etc. ← I went searching for this book and found it on amazon for 70 bucks. I found a used copy for 10 so with shipping I got it for 14. Thanks!!

Here is the one I made. The seniors loved it. I used 2% milk and it came out great.

Here is our stores "green bag". They cost .99cents and they're totally worth it. The problem is, I keep forgetting them when I go to the grocery store, so then I buy a few more. If you have a PC Mastercard( which I do), then you get 50 bonus points each time you use a green bag. The points really add up!! Does anyone else in Ontario have these bags? What do you think?

I madethisrice pudding tonight. I wanted to make Kerry's, but my brand new oven( just got it today) was making a funny noise so I turned it off. I think they might have installed it wrong. So, I found a basic, simple recipe using long grain rice( I spent 1.49). I added raisins and 2 scraped vanilla beans. I made 50 servings and I used 2 full bags(4L each) of 2% milk. On sale at Shopper's for 3.99 each. It's currently cooling in my brand new GE profile french door fridge that was also installed wrong ( its not level). I'll post the rice pudding tomorrow in the Senior Dining thread.

Actually, I was going to serve it cold.
