  1. Hope to meet you soon. Welcome back to the Northwest.
  2. Yeah, that sucks, but Steve has a good point nonetheless. Kathy

    Second Use

I asked the husband, who is handy and knows about these types of things: The "E ticket" would be the rented wet saw with a diamond blade, but it might be expensive to rent. A cheaper way is to use, as he puts it, a "yard sale circular saw" outfitted with a masonry blade (which is used for brick or concrete). Cut very slowly and wear excellent eye protection. Water not necessary. I assume this would work for granite as well.
  4. Which ones do you want? I could keep an eye out. I see them in thrift stores pretty frequently. In my experience, though, the Japan book is hard to find. Are they reasonable on eBay?
  5. Is it just possible that Jacques ate in . . . BOTH places? A crazy, wacky idea, I know.
  6. I left them a message on Thursday but have not gotten a call back as of Tuesday. I hope I'm on their list.

    Wine collectors

There's an article in Slate today about hiding wine purchases from loved ones. http://slate.msn.com/id/2083392/
  8. Like Ruth Gordon's "chocolate mouse" in "Rosemary's Baby," soy milk has a chalky undertaste. I will never knowingly put that crap in my mouth again.
  9. There's a story about it in this week's Stranger. http://www.thestranger.com/current/chow.html I never got to eat there because they were always full up when I tried.
  10. Roger, please also see the "Sushi-rific" PNW thread: http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?act=ST&f=7&t=4649& I just love Saito's in Belltown. Shiro's is also great, but a big splurge (quite expensive). Kathy
  11. Already?! Didn't Six Seven open just a year ago? And some of these new restaurant names are just DUMB. Bandol? Won't people immediately think "Bandoleone?" Union? I've also had quite enough of Chow Foods.
  12. Indeed, Kent is too far away for me to go to 99 Ranch on a regular basis. In addition to Uwajimaya, there are many grocery stores in Seattle's Chinatown (or Int'l District) that are far more conveniently located for me.
  13. When I needed a stainless steel work table recently, we visited all of the restaurant supply places, and it was Seattle Restaurant Supply (on Aurora) all the way. We bought a 60" work table for $179, which was a steal. The store is far CLEANER than its competitors, and you can actually find someone to help you. But in most cases, City Kitchens is #1. They have a far better mix of products than Sur La Table. I'm very lukewarm on Williams Sonoma. Everything I've ever ordered from them had to be sent back for quality problems. It's fun to browse their stores, but all of their silly, pricy food products are a turnoff.
  14. Thanks for pointing it out. I bought one. In fact, I bought several cool things at City Kitchens and I think spent only $58. That is such a great store, and they always have good sales. Last I saw Klink and Batgrrl, they were headed that way . . .
  15. Try the croissants at North Hill Bakery on 15th Ave (Capitol Hill). They make decent pastries.
  16. I have walked past a certain ground-floor apartment on Capitol Hill in Seattle, where there is no window blind and you can see into the kitchen. The tenant keeps stacks and stacks of yogurt containers on the kitchen counter, and they've been there for YEARS.
  17. Out of Oregon. Very good beer. http://www.rogueales.com/
  18. June is best for me. May 17th I'm out of town.
  19. Thanks for the write-up, Ben. Does the large family style table take up the whole room? If not, how many does that table seat?
  20. I will trot on down there after work, but since She Who Must Be Obeyed is in on Tuesdays, I can't commit to getting there by 4. I'll try to find the other eGulleters in the crowd.
  21. Another fab Chinese event taking place this week: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/books/120478_tl205.html Edit: Okay, so it's really on Tuesday, May 6! Can someone please edit the subject line?
