Fictitious Dishes: Elegant and Imaginative Photographs of Meals from Famous Literature (Check out the writer/photographer's surname. How appropriate.)

The manner desribed immediately above is mine. I think your stove is broken. The eternity setting seems to be malfunctioning!

I've mentioned luosifen before. This is the iconic snail noodle dish from my city. I just came across this and wondered if anyone has been or is willing to take a hit and try it out. I'd love to know what people think. Slurping Snail Soup at R' Noodles

I prefer to throw the cobs into the burning pits of hell and leave them there for eternity. But you knew that!

...and that is still apple, too! Dipping fruit in the juice of another fruit isn't some kind of shape-changing alchemy.
-
You could say the same about many fruits. There are all sorts of flavours in apples, but apples is still apples.

A light lunch with friends. Eight adults and two kids (who snatched at the food before I could photograph it - hence some incomplete dishes). First up came two "salads" This monstrosity consisted of shredded cabbage and cherry tomatoes slathered with sweet Kewpie mayonaisse. Whereas this consisted of mixed fruit and tomatoes with sweet Kewpie mayonaisse. Eel fried rice -Very nice. "Japanese" Tofu King Oyster Mushrooms (Eryngii) in an oyster sauce based sauce. Very good. For some reason, it seems one of the waiters ran out to the local KFC and got us this medley! It was also cold. Breaded Chicken with brown sauce. Pumpkin and Sweet Potato Puffs Garlicky Grilled Green-lip Mussels Liuzhou Pizza (Spot the Kewpie!) Beef Fried Noodles Taro Cake Washed down with Watermelon Juice A mixed bag food-wise, but a pleasant time was had by all.

Well the difference between peaches and nectarines is just a commercial marketing point. They are the same species.

土豆丝 tǔ dòu sī I always order this if I see on a menu, but I've never seen them use raw potato! Although served cold, and they do retain their bite, the slivers are briefly stir-fried. Several recipes.

Probably not Nostrodamus. There is little to no evidence that actually he wrote that. His name was attached to all sorts to sell them. It's called marketing now. In fact he probably didn't write half the so-called prophecies. Still an interesting old book, though

This morning's find. Prunus persica var. platycarpa, commonly known as the flat peach, doughnut peach or Saturn peach. In Chinese, 蟠桃 (Pinyin: pán táo, literally 'coiled peach'). These samples are from Xinjiang province. * The Monkey King story.

What I said. The produce is sold in a format to suit the store; not the customer.

A lentil and carrot soup with curry undertones followed by a simple squid, orzo and asparagus salad. It's hot! Very hot.

Yes, I appreciate that. Fortunately here very little is bagged and only in supermarkets surrounded by "farmer''s markets" where I can always buy exactly how many of whatever I may want. Today I bought one carrot. I did notice on my recent trip to the UK that bagged stuffed was much more the norm than when I left years ago! It is just contributing to the very food waste they claim to be fighting. But whatever and wherever I buy my vegetation , it is going to have the half-life scrubbed out of it in the controlled environment of MY kitchen.

Their website proudly boast of "Carefully removing all the unwanted brain, eyes, head, left with just the cheek for deep fried" Idiots.

The brains, or at least the heads, of shrimp are the tastiest part!
-
I never buy bagged vegetables. Why pay for someone to wash what you can, in all probability, wash better yourself? Why pay for the bag and the inert gas inside? And all the associated manhandling and distribution charges? Because it's more convenient for the stores? Screw them!

If you want Chernobyl Chips, avoid Russia. Chernobyl ain't there. It's in Ukraine! 😃

Slow braised turmeric chicken thighs with shallots, garlic, chilli, ras en hanout. Stiir fried okra. Couscous.

Fascinating article on the British woman who saved the Japanese nori industry after WWII. How Pink Slime Saved Sushi

More often spelled "silkie". Yes. Soups and broths. Despite their black bones and flesh (the common Chinese name translates literally as 'black bone chicken'), the birds are white plumaged and I've heard they do indeed make good pets, but I'm not a pet person. More a dinner person.

I have decided to, at least temporarily, ignore the "roast" in the thread title as it seems unnecessarily restricting, and bring you this black beauty. You’d be mad to roast it; this is a boiler, ideal in soups and stocks and considered to have huge medicinal benefits here in Chinaland.

I'll confess I'm not entirely sure what the point of this topic is, although I have plenty pictures of 'poultry porn' most was not intended for roasting. I think these quail were roasted though. and this pigeon
