We were in Charleston last October for one night and ate at Hank's. I had the soft shell crab, which was magnificent. I'd have to consult with the SO, as I don't even remember what she had. But over all, a great meal, nice atmosphere, comparable to any of the good restaurants we have in the valley. I was after East Coast seafood and found it.

I like to season, as stated above, then grill them. Other than warm up time for the grill, 15 minutes is plenty of time. As much as I love thighs, we frequently grill boneless, skin on, breasts for salads. DOH, there's several seasonings above. I meant what ducphat said. We do something very similar.

Mark Herberger. Thanks Rancho...I knew someone local would know. I feel minimally better about myself now.

I picked up 10 lbs of baby artichokes today from my favorite produce guy. Hmm, what to do? Sauted artichoke hearts, with potatoes, onion, garlic, capers and lemon...stuffed that into HUGE portabello mushroom and topped with parmesan cheese then grilled, along with grilled asparagus and simple grilled pork chops.

For 9.95 or so US, Castle Rock Russian River Pinot Noir.

Mark I have known this guy for nearly 6 years and still don't know his last name. He is at the Tuesday morning Napa market, the Wednesday St Helena Mkt and the Friday night Chef's Market. He used to have a place called Big Ranch Farms across from Nob Hill on Trancas, plus all his Farmer's Market visits. I'm ashamed now. He knows my son's name, asks me about my car racing every time I see him, helps me with heirloom pumpkins....and I don't even know his last name.

Red, with out a doubt. Lucious, sexy, wonderful Pinot!

I like it JUST like that with an herb crusted prime rib!

What a find Stone! Thanks for the info....I'm headed that way now and will stop for lunch!

Fresh basil, horseradish (fresh grated), Tabasco chilpote, Do I have to stop?

Dont' be too hard on her Brad. I live in Napa and work in the city 2-4 times a week and feel the same way she does. It only takes a couple of times trying to get home when there is a wreck on the Bay Bridge to dim the shine of the city.

I think my step mother used to add canned green beans to that! YUK!

From what I am looking at it looks like grits with rice instead of grits, with lots of possibilities.
-
Until I find out what jook is I'll stay with grits, with butter, salt and pepper.

We just finished grilled asparagus and shitake mushrooms with proscuitto tossed in penne with a bit of grated parmesean and olive oil....spring at it's best!

I have to agree. I live in Napa and tend to enjoy Sonoma more. It seems to have become waaaay to touristy and commerical over on this side of the hills.

There are two great seafood mongers in Napa, Osprey and Omega 3, but both are a bit far for you to travel I would imagine.

Fried Spam sandwich on white bread with LOTS of mayo. I cannot for the life of me figure out why they put a screw top on those mayonaise jars.

I've been using a Screwpull Lever model for quite some time and loving every minute of it. Just as an aside, the metal portion a the top literally snapped in two the other day. I contacted Le Crueset, even though the opener is long out of warranty and I haven't the faintest idea where the purchase reciept is, they issued me a return authorization nr and said they would replace it.

We like the Castle Rock, too. Usually $9.99 around here. Yeah, count me as a fan of the Castle Rock too. I finally found it at the Oakville Grocery and snagged a case for $115.00 the other day. Exceptional value for a Pinot in Napa.

That's what I'm talking about! I'm a retired K9 Handler and have 2 German Shepherds and 2 Belgian Shepherds at home. It doesn't matter how long or how much I clean, or how careful I am, there's a pretty good chance somebody is gonna get a hair of some sort in something before the day is done.

Have you taken a good look at Tony? (Gandolfini) The surpise is that the rest of the "boys" don't look like him.

Add 53 for me...I feel so inadequate....BUT, I do have the small (falling apart) cookbook that my great grandmother brought with her from NY to Kansas in a covered wagon.

But those charges, and I am not a lawyer, appear to have been served in civil court. Why did no one press criminal charges against this guy? I would imagine it is either a statute of limitation thing or the evidence wasn't strong enough for criminal charges. The burden of proof in civil court is of a lesser nature. Or a combination of both. Or neither. What the hell do I know? I'm a retired K9 handler, not sex crimes investigator

Terry's Southern Style Fish & BBq, 1700 Hampton way Santa Rosa 707 526 9090. Call for directions as there kinda hard to find unless you have been there. If you happen to be in the North Bay I have to say I was fairly disappointed in the fried chicken the day I tried Terry's. It was a bit after the normal lunch time and the chicken seemed to have waited for me since the beginning of lunch service. Chewy chicken aside, the owner sat with us for nearly a half hour as we talked of long ago days all of us experienced living in the south. I am glad to see someone else obviously has had a good meal there. I'll make it a point of giving them another chance.
