Traditional Steamed Crabs in Baltimore & Maryland
Kim WB replied to a topic in D.C. & DelMarVa: Dining
Thank you all for your help. We have decided on staying at the Inn at Perry Cabin, in St. Michael's , and crabs Saturday early lunch at The Crab Claw. The CC doesn't take res on a Holiday lunch, so we're going to bring our patience ( along with our mallets!) and hope for the best. -
Another vote for these, please.

As noted in an earlier thread, my husband and I have been jonesing for some crabs. He reserved a last minute Sat nite room at the Inn at Perry Cabin, in ST. Michaels, which looks lovely. We're set for fine dining, but are still searching for that "crab place". I apologize for my lack of geograpphic knowledge..but are any of the above reccomendations near St. Michael's? Thanks again. looking forward to some lovely weather!

Did you choose a vegetarian prix fixe, or was this the only choice? Sounds wonderful, great review, I'm just curious if you were satiated after what sounds like a ( other than cheese servings) protein-less meal.

You eat 6 cups of cereal for breakfast?? I am trying to picture how big a bowl must be needed for such a feat!

Hey, that's cheating! I'm just jealous...I'd gladly trade my desk drawer for a fridge, any day. It's only because I often work weekends and at night..and I find that having all this on hand keeps my clients in the office, during that critical time they are considering making an offer on a home ( I am a real Estate agent). For example, I am waiting for buyers to come in at 6pm, and I'll offer them something to drink, ply the kids with juice boxes and candy,( I have toys and coloring books and crayons, too) and hopefully get 10 minutes of their undivided attention to review the contract and get it signed. The JWB really helps for that! just joking!!!

Cherries. Becasue when I answered the "Waht do you keep in the office?" thread, I literally got up and looked in the fridge and there they were!

I have a fridge in my office, so it really lets me stock up. I have a few low cal bottled dressings, for when I eat from the building complex's shared cafeteria. I have three 1/2 bottles of Sparkling Wine, and two bottles of orange label Vueve Cliquot, mini juice boxes, cans of Diet Coke, REgular Coke, Pelligrino, lemons, limes and right now, Cherries. Also some horseradish mustard , olives, mini candy bars. In my desk, I have 2 bottles of Ca Cabernet, Johhny Walker Black, packets of salt, Twizzlers, pretzels and Vegetable Thins Crackers. And a case of more VC...when a client signs a contract on a new home, I give them a bottle. I give them a cold bottle if they seem the type that will want to open it right away and celebrate..plus I have those plastic tulip glasses.

I recently needed a specific venue in Philly, and my first step was to ask on e-gullet..and then I looked at the site each restaurant that was mentioned..the ones that did not have a site were out of contention ( because it was business and I had some specific criteria) and the two or three I narrowed it down to had web sites, and the one I went to had the best site...so I guess I used a combination of word of mouth and web. The restaurant, BTW, was VEtri, and it is absolutely wonderful.

This thread inspired me to work on my own iced tea preferences. I've decided, for ease, drinkability and taste, that I prefer strong brewed Earl Grey, cooled down, poured over crushed ice and macerated fruit. Fruit must include lemon, and my fav combo so far was a slice of peach, a slice of orange, and a wedge of lemon. It does not taste the same if I add muliple slices to the pitcher and let them linger in there..there is a big taste difference between preparing a la minute than in advance.

A banana. One lonely, slightly under ripe banana. Everyone else ate bagels and cream cheese and watermelon. By t he time I finished scrambling their eggs, they had eaten all the watermelon, the little vultures. So it was just me, and the Banana. Then a 45 minute treadmill workout and a lot of water. Lunch? A little Port Salut, a green salad and a leftover barbequed chicken thigh.

I think if you read back about a year's worth of posts, you'll discover that hte officail e-hgullet terminology is TOURISTS, as in " Wooden Mallets are for Tourists" Anyway, I would be a tourist, coming down from NJ, so I need a mallet! IF there was ever a time when you were unable to walk out to your backyard to catch the crabs, DAve, is there ia restaurant that would fit my description that you would choose? -
Rachel, I'd be more than happy to assist you in regards to coordinating alcohol, sides, etc. I won't be of much help with a location so far north, but keep me in mind for little details to help out with as we get closer to a date. PS, I am not available the weekend of the 13th.

When does the school year end for your kids? I like the variety at my son's school, salad bar, yogurt bar, stir fry and sandwich bar, and a hot lunch course.. and no one checking to see what amount of food you ate, which I prefer for my kids.

'We were, for many years, devotees of Gabler's in Perryman, MD for crabs..it closed. We're looking for a wooden mallet, paper on the tables, Abita beers kinda place to replace it..waterfront nice but not required. Ramshackle is ok, Gablers always looked like it was ready to fall into the river, but had the best spiced crabs I've ever had. I've read about Jimmy Cantler's. Any opinions? Suggestions for alternatives? -
I agree with many of your opinions, and the restaurants you chose to visit as a good representation of NOLA , but I would tweak the order a bit: Commander's for Sunday Brunch, Magical. Eggs, softshells and hollandaise...Bayona for dinner next time...not as reasonably priced as their lunch, but better than Peristlye, which is on my "glad I went but won't return" list...just not special enough. Sounds like a wonderful trip...thanks fo the report.

hmmm...sounds like another Bourdain-ette wannabe.

Wow, I just sat down with my lunch and flicked on FN. I saw Lighten Up for the first time. This is a really, really terrible show. The two hosts are from the RosieO'Donnell show, which I enjoyed, so I was predisposed to give them a chance. Wow, really irritating. Forget the poor food content...we're not even talking bearable banter between t he two, let alone the value of another mac and cheese recipe "lightened up".

i've had to register with the state, but for different reasons. Really, you are par excellence in the comebacks arena....bar none... great wit. I suspect you a re voting the way of the light ( and the left ) anyway... but if not, I'd want you on my side!!!

ok, for the record. if you are looking for a good soft shell..QUICK, throw caution to the wind.melt a LOT of butter and a littlle OOil..drench a naked crab in some mass produced Italian style bread crumb..throw it in sizzling fat in a non-stick..squirt some lemon or lime..cook it longer than you think you should.. 4 to 5 sizzling min on med-medhigh heat..crispy, crabby...really good. At least not wasted, see above!!!

While there are always exceptions, I actually loose money on entertaining, because I won't compromise for a lousy experience, and often exceed allowable amounts..which I don't claim, I just pay!
