  1. OKRA! Not really, I just wanted to best mayhaw man to the punch. At our house, chocolate chip cookies cure all. Waffles. So many things to fill those indentations with.
  2. I confess! As one who spent much of his life working with the projection and recording of real music, I find it difficult to get worked up about the ethics of stripping away involuntarily endured aural wallpaper. I reserve the right to be as disrespectful to audible polution as I am to neighboring smokers and the pushers of junk food. At the risk of beating this inot the ground, let me ask you this: what would your mother say if she knew you were destroying someone else's property?
  3. a thousand yesses, my friend. Sweet bagels are gross.
  4. My boys are 6 and 3, and those sound just like the rules at our house. We don't make them taste everything, but it is strongly encouraged. When the lovely Mrs C was a kid, her folks had the "you have to eat everything on your plate" rule. If you didn't eat it all, you had to sit at the table until either: a) you ate it, or b) it was bedtime. So, she is a little softer on the food police rules than am I. No toys at the table, ever, but books are allowed out. How's that no whining thing working for you?
  5. But I like watching TV with her, snuggled up on the couch, us, the dog, and some Ben & Jerry's Coffee Heath bar Crunch. Watching her choice on the TV seems like a small price to pay for getting to spend the rest of my days with the love of my life.

    stew

I agree on the oven for stews, but make sure you have a thermometer so you know how hot it really is. Oh, and move the thermometer around so you know where the hot and not so hot spots in your oven are.
  7. Say what you will about FTV, but at our house, the Mrs. has been on a "Law & Order" kick lately. I know more about Lenny Briscoe and Olivia than I care to admit. And since the Mrs. controls the remote (among other things), "L&O" it is. So I miss watching Food TV.

    Gefilte Fish

I like pike, whitefish and carp. But here in the Great Lake State, I have the advantadge of buying fish caught that morning, which makes a huge difference in how whitefish tastes. Anyway, we are from the pepper side of the discussion, and using heads, skin and the rest for the stock. I can't wait! Yum.

  10. Yep. Only that was much better written then what I wrote.
  11. you cut the wires in a restaurant? in a restaurant you didn't own? and you admit this, and even sound like you are proud of it? Shame on you.
  12. Further proof that we will all be able to do our jobs better if we just had a big corporation looking out for us. Wait. Oh. The government? Nah. Never mind.
  13. I like Starbucks, and as usual, Mr. Hamaker is right on the money. Last time they asked me if I wanted room, and I said no, I want coffee.

    Dinner! 2004

It's funny how you bring up frulano cheese when I had it last night for the first time. It's tasty in a salad. We ate at my Mom's last night, and in addtion to the salad, she roasted a turkey, and made the most wonderful potato filling. It's a Penna Dutch recipe that is a combo of mashed potatoes and bread stuffing, and if my mom is cooking it, more than a splash of cream.
  15. cherries. Both Michigan sweet and sour. By the way, you cherry lovers are invited to the National Cherry Festival in Traverse City, Michigan. This year the dates are July 3 - 10. You can visit on line at Cherry festival
  16. Somewhere, there's a VP of Operation's who lives in fear that someone will walk inot a BK or McD's, and not see something they like on the menu. So, we have salads, gobs of bad chicken sandwiches and other assorted crap that soaks up inventory space, and keeps them from doing what they do well. Cook burgers and fries. How much better would the food be if they both cleared the decks, and just kept the top 5 sellers?
  17. coffee and trail mix from Sam's. The sweet-salty kind (not the tropical) then we buy the big bag of M&M's and mix those in.
  18. I'm sorry for being confused. You stop grilling in winter? Why is that? Here in the great lake state, the grilling season never ends!
  19. No doubt about it. Nice going Drew.
  20. Let me get this straight, Drew. You are giving up leavening AND meat for 8 days? I think I'd starve. Well, as much as a man who could stand to lose 25 pounds would starve, anyway.
  21. I'm with the chorus on this one. i don't think storing it is going to be an issue.
  22. Sorry to be the spoil sport, but I love Passover. The cleaning, the food, the matzo, the ritualness of the holiday. My eldest (he's 6) asked yesterday if he could let his friend from down the street keep our breadbox for the week. "it's fair, dad, remember, we watched his turtle when he went on vacation."
  23. i wasn't around here then, but I'm sure there is at least a thread or two devoted to "that book". So rather than re-hash, I'll just let it go. I know, it was so adult of me, wasn't it?
