Sure, brag about the fact that you have them in New Jersey........glad you enjoyed them though.

If you like your bagels dense and chewy try a Montreal bagel if you're ever in Quebec or certain areas of Ontario. I think I'll give these a try this weekend, yours looked delicious.

Didn't like zucchini, or it was cooked too long? Throw it in later, or better yet, brush with EVOO and a fresh cut garlic clove and grill

Yet another one of Toronto's ridiculous aspects. I agree 100%, I cannot see any downside to the restaurant. It would certainly prompt me to order two different bottles if my dining companion and I were matching wine to different food, rather than settling on something that sort of went with both.

How kind of you, Tammy and Randi to post this. I would love to meet some more eG's, unfortunately that weekend just wont work for me. Hopefully I'll get to the next one. Your menu ideas and the crowd coming sound great, I'm jealous already......

They look fabulous, Jennifer. How would you compare them to New York style and Montreal style bagels?
-
roasted fennel.....yummmm. But really, any mix of roasted veg. is great. And roast potatos, well who needs anything else to round out a meal?

take a look at the green tea cookie thread. scroll all the way down for my cookies I used JasonTrue's recipe, the link is in post #13 They are my new addiction! ← Thank you, Klary. I'll definitely be making these (without the chocolate as you did). Dinner tonight needs to be something easy the athe SO can have when he gets home late. I'm thinking fritatta at this point, with cremini, wild leeks, fiddleheads.

A quick road trip to Toronto will do the trick. I've had no problem locating Mexican ingredients including all types of dried chilis, many fresh, mexican orgegano, crema, chocolate etc. etc. etc. (Also has the advantage of being cheaper than mail order, and you can buy fresh.)
-
Klary, I'm intrigued by the green tea cookies. Do you have a recipe, or were they purchased?
-
Ewenity. Haven't tried it yet, probably tonight. Yogourt for breakfast was wonderful.

Lazy dinner with wine tonight -- steak tartare, bread, crostini, and cheese (St. Marcellan, cabrales, Ertko (?) basque, and another spanish cows milk cheese whose name escapes me after all the wine) and fresh asparagus spears with goat cheese wrapped in proscuitto and grilled. Yummy nibblies.

No pickeral today, dammit!! (No smelt either jayt90) But I did get some wonderful fiddleheads, chard, wild leeks, white radishes and some sheeps milk cheese and yogourt. Mmmmm.

Linda, I'm so thrilled you're blogging again! Thank you. I'm with Susan, any pictures of warmth would help, it's still too cool here for tomatos too! -
I suggest vodka the first night (worked for me) although the aftereffects aren't so great. Otherwise, soup, including cold soups if it's nice there now, careful though, hot sauces/vinegars etc. stung the first few days. Poached eggs. Foie gras should go down nicely too!

Great blog, Randi. Thanks for the insights into your area. I think I need to make a road trip to that mill!! If I do, I'll drop off some San Marzano tomatos on the way!! cheers. -

Cali, been busy all week and just ran across your blog -- it's wonderful. I have been sitting here reading through it instead of the laundry, cleaning, dinner prep etc. I was planning! I have actually been through Exeter once, a long time ago. Congrats (belated) on your marriage, I followed the initial legislation closely as I was in the legal community at that time. Not to go off topic too far, would you and Robin have stayed in the US had the marriage option been available there? (feel free to PM if I'm too off topic, or ignore if it's none of my business) Do you guys get to Toronto often, especially for the restaurant and food shopping options? -
That may be it, Jin, but it sounds delicious --- been missing your posts lately!

Riverdale market is where exactly???

Downstairs at the St. Lawrence Market and at Lady Yorke. Likely about $3 per can.

Yay, Steak 'n Shake! Missouri, huh? I wonder how widespread they are....anyone any further afield have Steak 'n Shake in your hometown? ← There is one in St. Pete's FL near my parents place......never been tho' -
Thanks, glossyp. I am darkening the rye with espresso!!!! I didn't have any caramel, no instant coffee etc. and hope this will work. I too made batards (well, sort of, my shaping still needs work) will post pics later!
-
Currently have the marble rye rising......could be interesting, I got the flour from a Finnish bakery, there is no english at all on the packet, but the bkaer assured me in very broken English that it was light rye.....the dough was quite dry and took all the water suggested plus an extra tablespoon or so. Will post later on the results, but feel free to post any tips in the meantime.
