My parents own a small Hotel in Torquay, Fawlty Towers is more a training manuel than a comedy.Sorry Dad
-
That's a good reason!

Why do restaurants decide on where you are going to sit? My place is very small, but if it's layed up for example 5 tables of 2, and 3 tables of 4, we offer people a choice of tables when they arrive.Last one in gets the last table, but we do reserve particular tables for people if they ask. I 'm trying to think of a logical reason for the restaurant to be in charge of seating?

You have to speak to the management, to allow them to help you.In an ideal world, they would have seated you elsewhere, but when the world is not ideal,SPEAK UP! I had a large group (which got larger) in last night, reps from the Trade Show.Anyone else booked that night were told that there was a large group of potenially noisy guests when they booked.Nips any problem in the bud before it's a problem. Same thing tonight, but this time we will be ready with the 16 individual bills and the 16 indiidual VAT invoices ,bloody reps!!!

London Restaurant Guides - The Best Guide?
Basildog replied to a topic in United Kingdom & Ireland: Dining
as said, all the mentioned guides do not charge the restaurants, ,nor do the AA ,but the AA do try and sell you a photo next to your entry. -
Not all restaurants run special rip off V day menus. We run our normal menu at the normal price.

Chat and Interview with Derek Bulmer

I'm sorry Basildog but I've no plans to raise the limit at the moment. When it becomes difficult to find restaurants serving the required quality at no more than £25 then I'll have to think again. Remember, it's not necessary to serve only a menu at £25 or less. Many existing Bib Gourmands run these alongside a more expensive carte. ← The press release mentions the Bib price is now £27 !! -
The Ebb was on the market 6 months after they opened, didn't sell. They did another season, then put it back on the market. The Old Grain Store is just right for you Matthew, good location, lots of potential, not stupidly priced.Rents about £15 k i think.First time it's been on the market in about 15 years. I think there's a mistake in the Caterers bit abour Number 6, the asking price was £650,000, i don't know where they got £1.2 million from.Really glad about Number 6's new owners, nice bunch of people. They reopen in Feb. ...and of course i'm always open to offers in excess on £1 million for my place

Nathan's a pretty safe bet to get a star at St Ervan Manor and if you want a prediction for 2007, Number 6 in Middle Street Padstow.

Of course Welsh Cakes can be eaten cold !! and you really need a bake stone, i'm waiting to inherit mine from my Grandmother, who coooked 300 mini welsh cakes for a wedding i was doing earlier this year. She is 80 and rocks!

When i cook larger scallops, i sear them in a hot pan as normal, but then i let them "rest" at the bottom of the grill to finish cooking.Only a minute, but it lets the heat get through to the center without overcooking. edit, you really don't want to put scallop in water before you sear them, the water boils, the temp drops and it all goes tits up.

Anybody actually purchased a copy?
-
I lay odds of 3 to 1 that St Ervan Manor gets a star.
-
Yeah, i'll send them to Eberneezer Bapi for Christmas
-
Yes we scored a steady 3 with a nice write up.Better than that i now have 10 GFG stickers on my front door.(i'm a sucker for stickers, must be some throw back to Pannini in my boyhood )
-
Bapi, what makes you think your welcome back, let alone with vouchers in your grubby little hand?
-
Bapi, its 10x £5 Vouchers for 2006.

I come and go on a whim Jon I 'm just interested in what more they could have done, apart from walk them to the car by candlelight, possibly holding their hands? Touch wood we haven't had a power cut in a while, but in the past, we have got the candles out, and struggled on with torch light untill it gets to hot to breath in the kitchen, and then we just stop.People have paid in the past, if they were at the end of their meal, otherwise it's just apologies, large brandys and try to see the funny side. I did have a women very upset with me because i couldn't cook for her as we had no power, and she blamed held me resposible for the crap steak dinner she had at another restaurant which did have power.(Padstow has very funny eletrics, some shops will be cut off, some will not)
-
Jon, how should they have dealt with the power failure? We have them ourselves occasionally

Does Ramsay really shove people on his US show?I'm sure he didn't on the UK version, only grabbing one contestants hand when she went to slap him.

Don't you think the producers featured in the series might have had a smidgen of good publicity from getting Rick's endorsment? Something like the Delia effect. edit ....and what makes you think he didn't write the book??

Slacker, you Johnny come lately. Padstow has lost 2 veg shops,1 Co-op type shop,2 Butchers, Hairdressers,Video shop,2 hardwear shops etc etc in the last 5 years,(we did gain a nice Tesco.) All these shops have been replaced by designery ,surf, clothes and boutiquey shops.I don't think there is an answer. PS the town is a fecking nightmare at the moment, it's too busy for it's own good

Not a rare event for us to be offered drinks by guests.Cheap round here (3 drinks ) I tend not to take them as i have to drive home after work. I don't recall Mr Mashall buying me a drink, but he did bring chocolates EDIT, we do have one regular who leaves us his dregs as a tip, that's just tight

Elaine "Margot" always called petit fours "sweeties" and she liked fruit to be part of it.She also insisted on Cadburys Mini Eggs at Easter.
