  1. Hardly, as Octopus are highly intelligent- comparable to a domestic cat, whereas shrimp have a collection of nerve cells that barely qualifies as a brain.
  2. Note that the Swiss Farmers Buffet is for dinner, not brunch. Haven't been to the brunch buffet for a long time, but it used to be good.
  3. And they are also participating in City Dine. A good cause to support at a great restaurant. One thing though, I thought Che was from Argentina? ← He is, but he became a fellow traveller of Castro's and was part of the Cuban Revolution
  4. Oooh, Trafalgars. Excellent call, Zuke.
  5. Sha Lin noodle house is great- I like the dragging noodles with pork and the satays. Side of broccoli with garlic. Just off Cambie on 7th and Yukon is Solly's Bagel Deli. Banana Leaf is great- Broadway near Laurel Schezuan Chile on 6th and Willow has decent lunch specials Kalamata on Broadway and Cambie used to be good Greek, but I haven't been for a few years- maybe someone else can confirm? Has anybody tried the little Vietmanese place on Broadway and Oak? I might be worth a try. Second the Shiro and Kirin recs. Also, there is a creperie in the City Square Mall. Would probably be good.
  6. They certainly used to be- not sure if he is still the patisserie there.
  7. Parkside. "Ornamatal" and delicious. ETA Or you could go to HSG and just accept that everybody has to have the GBP.
  8. I have heard good things about Cafe del Lupo on Georgia near Burrard as well for breakfasty things. Also Senses for bakery stuff- also on Georgia (and Howe) You will love Parkside- it will be perfect. Vancouver is a pretty casual town- smart casual will cover almost any eventuality. Best of luck with your treatment and the impending expansion of your family.
  9. Well, the weatherperson calls it the South Coast, so that is as good as anything ; )
  10. You would not be saying that if you had eaten the Gingerbread Pudding. I love the Hanger at HSG-perhaps the cut is not for everyone. ← I am not sure that HSG can lower their prices anymore than they are. Yes it is a little dated in its decor out front (private dining room is beautiful) but where else in Yaletown or anywhere downtown can you get a 20 oz Angus New York Steak for $32.99, is it still that cheap? They have the best deal on beef around, maybe not as good as that place on the corner of Hastings and Clark but fantastic for downtown. And the ginger bread pudding is fantastic, especailly on a rainy night in the winter time. I am sure the owner could fix up the room and then he would be justified in raising his prices 20% or more. I think that it offers great value. It is too bad that your Hanger Steak was tough. It is a tricky piece of meat to cook but still ranks up there for flavour even if you have to chew a little more. Here is a little info that I didnt know about this cut of meat. Hanger Steak Give the place a second visit. I am sure the owner would love to have a second chance to show you why this restaurant has been around for 9 years. p.s. Phat rules. Montreal smoked meat sandwich please. ← How did you order your Hanger, DJOblong? It won't do to eat this cut medium.

  12. I would have piled on every salsa they had while staring icily at bovine expert behind the counter. . . What are they going to do? Chase you down the street screaming "no adobo for you"? Thank you so much for saving me the 3.50.
  13. I don't know, but I can't wait to find out. Sorry, Vancity girl. An assessment based on containers has needs some clarification IMHO.
  14. ^ What is your point? That you object to the little foldy boxes? I am sure they wouldn't mind if you brought your own. I don't think that they are billing themselves as a chinese place- real or imaginary. Looks more like SE Asian influence judging from the online menu.
  15. I don't mean any slight but you can starve in a beautiful, livable city just as well as in an ugly one. Keep on shucking ← Oh, I don't disagree with that, Oyster Guy. Just wanted to say that Vancouver is pretty liveable, if you can find an affordable place. If you are working late hours, transit is pretty difficult outside the city.
  16. I just wanted to add that unlike many cities, the city core in Vancouver is very liveable, with decent access to parks- westend, false creek, yaletown are all "inner-city" and have lots of green space, access to water, and amenities.
  17. Sablefish, herring, sardines, pacific cod, striped bass, spot prawns, squid?
  18. Thanks for the report ja_rtw! I have to go to PG a couple of times a year for work and usually end of ordering roomservice cause I am scared of everything else. Can't wait to try White Goose.
  19. FYI, Iron Chef, if you do happen to do be affiliated, it is Cortes Island, not Cortez
  20. I think the people in question are more upset that you accused them of mindlessly jerking off in re Salt, ie the calling down of their opinion, as opposed to the calling down of the restaurant. Just a guess, not speaking for anyone.
  21. An the other hand, his employees seem to be very loyal to him. I remember reading in Bourdain's A Cooks Tour that most of his cooks followed him when he walked out on a job, and many of those he abuses are with him years later, so maybe there is something we are not seeing.
  22. Samasutra Sage Bistro Click on lunch menu
  23. Is that in your old locale, Gerald?
