And if it is not thick enough, you can always drain it in a cheesecloth for a couple of hours. Should help. -
Fage Greek Yogurt in the Lower Mainland?

Further to Mooshmouse's suggestion, Parthenon is in the same section of Broadway as Minerva and has all kinds of Greek stuff. -
Stovetop is the first person who I have ever heard saying that Chinese in Toronto is better than Vancouver. Is that true?

I use vermouth in place of white wine all the time, perhaps because I am greedy and want to save the wine for drinking

Mmm. LOVE those blood orange negronis.

I will venture a gross generalizaton and state that in my experience, people who order hot water and lemon are people who don't want to pay for tea. I wholeheartedly support charging during DOV.

Stanley Park is a bit of a mess right now due to windstorms, and a lot of it may still be closed while you are here. If you go out to UBC, there miles of trails through Pacific Rim park, running from the Fraser River down to the beaches (if you want to get into a forest but not out of the city). You will have to share with horses and cyclists. A trip to the local mountains might be good. Are you sporty or as Barolo says- arty crafty? Tell us what you like and we can make suggestions. I agree that Granville Island is a better choice than Lonsdale Quay.

I think they could work if you have a lot of strong aromatics- I have used them in slow braises - like lamb shanks- just a handful to the broth. I don't think they are necessary. I am anxious to hear how it turns out.

Yes, Vij's is great- beware no reso policy. Be prepared for a wait. How many days are you here for again?

May be easier to take a bus from downtown. PM me if you need directions.

Are you talking about the West Broadway location ?

Note that Thomas Haas is on the North Shore (near where I work yay for me), but that his products are available at Senses on Georgia and Howe (downtown) as well. La Casa does have a million flavours, but I have been disappointed there. Dolce Amore, Amato, or Mondo are better IMHO, if fewer flavours. Have you chosen a Richmond Chinese place yet? Canucklehead is our resident expert if you need recs. Dessert- Hamilton Street Grill is justifiably famous for its Gingerbread Pudding.

This is where I sulk 'cause Aurora does not do brunch anymore. Ocean 6 Seventeen is just across the water from downtown ( you can take the little ferries across False Creek). Lovely tiny patio right on the Heather Marina Feenies does good brunch too- Really depends on what kind of atmosphere you are looking for. Funky? Casual? Formal? Hung Over? IMHO, the best Vancouver brunch is Dim Sum As for Tojos- price will range- if you stop at 5 dishes, I think it is 80, and goes up from there.

If I can throw in my 2 cents, I would recommend Rare, Parkside and Aurora. All three are representative are what Vancouver does well. Kirin is good- you really should try to fit in some Chinese- Richmond Chinese food is truly outstanding.

Looking at a few of the judges this year, I sincerely doubt Pink Pearl will make an appearance. Definitely some serious chops when it comes to knowledge of Chinese in Vancouver.

Yuppie instead of upper class. Condemnation indeed.

Last night we hit Ocean 6 Seventeen for Dine Out, and were mightily impressed. I have been for brunch and afternoon grazing, but never for a real dinner. There was a two top set up in the middle of the long banquette wall that was evidentally for us, but the hostess suggested that if we waited a few minutes we could have the nice little window table in the corner. We had a few cocktails at the bar and chatted with the bartender. She was warm and obviously passionate about the place. Mixed a mean Bombay martini too. They offered both an official 25$ menu and a 35$ option, AND a limited a la carte as well. We both opted for the 35$, though the 25$ looked great too- mains on that one included trout, a pork dish, or lamb chops. I started with the Foie Gras Parfait, which came with sesame crisps (baked in house), "orange slaw" was deconstructed, with orange segments, watercress, endive and a star anise syrup. Fantastic. Beautiful counterpoint of flavour and texture. D had the "Surf and Turf": carpaccio wrapped around crab salad, shoestring potatoes, blue cheese aioli, which he gobbled down in record time. For mains, I had venison, served med rare with truffle mashed potato and green beans, and a rich pan sauce- all vealy goodness. The meat was lovely, tender and flavourful. D had the lamb, served with a root vegetable brunois (I think parsnip and carrot dominated). Again, expertly cooked and seasoned. The third option was Ling Cod- I don't recall the menu description. Dessert- D had cheesecake and I had espresso pot de creme with filbert biscotti, which I ordered off of the 25 dollar option. Very nice; smooth, and rich, Mind you, I am a sucker for custard. I went with the wine pairings, the first of which was a Golden Mile Reisling and the second a Fairview Estates Cab Merlot. All the pairings were VQA. Bread was baked in house and was very good. The service was my favourite "Vancouver" style; relaxed but informed. ' I love this little room. I think it is definitely under-buzzed, and I hope this event brings a lot more locals beating a path to the door. It was definitely hopping last night, and everyone seemed to be having a great time.

I like that place on 2nd and Fir- is it Athena? ETA, no Appolonia.

Good point. I don't think that we have the same bovine growth hormone use in Canada though, and we have also seen patterns of accelerated puberty. The answer is likely bigger than any one foodstuff.

There are some killer Chinese places in Richmond. Why not try one of them? Canucklehead can advise

Impaling the thyroid gland! Sounds fatal! me to read more carefully...] Infants should be fed mother's milk (if at all possible), not soy. I don't see where that has anything to do with adults having problems from eating tofu and soybean sprouts. ← I have thyroid disease (hypo) and have been told to limit my soy intake as it is known to inhibit the thyroid gland, although my endo said "if your thyroid is dead, what harm can it do? In moderation, the benefits outweigh the risks". I was advised by my Dr. not to use Soy Formula for my kid, as it can have endocrinal effects similar to estrogen. It does not make sense to me to give it to a baby, unless it is allergic to milk protein. As per the article Daniel linked, the guy is not a Dr. or a Scientist. He is presenting a political viewpoint, and it is risable.

How about Tapastree? Also, a meat coma is always good for a broken heart- how about Hys for Cheese Toast and steak? Or the window seat at Cru?

I am wondering if you lost significant water weight in the three days? Hmmm. Contemplating this adventure. My skin is looking haggard these days.
