  6. Chris, will you post a link to your article(s)? I will never remember to look 6 weeks from now? How was the Iron Chef's English?
  7. Do any of the dishes they "invent" on the show make it to the menus at their restaurants? What was Morimoto thinking during the natto battle? Coke and natto? What do the original Iron Chefs think of the fact that many Japanese ingredients/dishes have made it into mainstream American food ie sushi at grocery stores? Has American cusine influenced their cooking? I can't wait to hear your report. Wish you could bring along a few "friends"! Have a great time

  10. Thanks Chrome. That must be the site for Brazillian cuisine. It's the same one that edsel recommended As for the music, I have started nagging our music teacher for some. Last month we played a different African American musician every few days at lunch. The kids seem to really enjoy it, so I will move to music from the country du jour.
  11. Any ideas of what I should do with doce de leite? Maybe something with bananas? Are baby bananas common in Brazil?
  12. I have a coworker who is thrilled to have the guide. I receive a good number of Starbucks gift cards so I get a drink there about once a month. My regular starf*%k has given up traslating my order from small or medium. (I don't want to imagine me after a large.)
  13. Do you know what time they open? I am hesitant to go because of the crowds. On the other hand this waiting is a bit like the days before Hannukah as a kid. You know there are wonderful things about to come into your possession, if you can only wait!
  14. I think it was, but I don't remember for sure. I decided early in the meal to dispense with the formality of taking notes on the dishes. It's not the point of a meal at Minibar. I actually think, as much as I appreciate the printed menu and the video monitors displaying the names of the dishes, that I'd prefer not to have a list of the dishes because, in discussing Minibar, I think the dishes themselves are a distraction from the more important central themes. There's a better way to talk about food at this level; I'm still working on exactly what that way is. I agree. After the second dish, I stopped worrying about pics. and details to savor every moment of the experience. However, the marshmellow is the only desert that has stayed with me as relive the meal. It was flavored with passion fruit. They were three little kisses of marshmellow heaven.
  15. I have lost track of the number of "she's finally lost it" looks when I tried to describe the experience. Has anyone succeeded in describing it, or is that a lost cause with nonfoodies? FG & Ellen, the pictures are beautiful. What I had hoped to take before I got caught up in the food. One question, on the petit fours trio, what was the inbetween the corn nuts and raspberry jelly? Was it marshmellow?
  16. 3-5 am The magical morning hours Congratulations
  17. Too much wine last night Grease. Any food substance with grease involved is all I want right now.
  18. Don't bother. You can dine a lot better elsewhere in the city. They are no longer offering the fish fry, but I couldn't get details if there was still the $20 3-course meal deal. A friend tried to eat there on a Sunday a few weeks ago. For a party of 3 they were told a half hour wait. An hour and a half later they left. I have dined there a few times in the past few weeks. The portions are tiny and not worth the money. You can do better at Ardeo, if you must eat on Upper Conn. Ave., let alone the rest of the city. They shrimp and grits are good, but not worth the money (18.95). You only get 3 shrimp and small serving of grits. I don't eat a lot and it didn't fill me up. The pork chops were as good as my late grandmother's, which isn't saying much. The coating was sweet and the meat dry. Did I mention that every table except ours got bread? The only food standout was the cauliflower gratin, but since the menu changes daily you never know when it will appear. Don, you're right. Jamie at the bar is great. He knows his wines, and served me a nice Spanish one. But unless you are going for a drink, he doesn't make up for the mediocre service and the okay food. Frankly, I don't get why it received 3 stars, except for Tom is a fan of the chef's.
  19. No more expensive than it is to mail a package anywhere in the US. You don't have to send it "overseas." It transfers from the US mail system right to the military one. You use an APO/FPO address. Just get something small and light. It'll be quite affordable, and they'll appreciate anything. Even a card that says, "Thanks and we appreciate you." PS - Another thing I send that is always seems to be well-used are those small, complimentary bottles of shampoo, soap, bath gel, mouthwash, lotion, etc., that you get in hotels. Perfect Paycheck comes tomorrow and I'm going shopping!
  20. I would love to send something over but don't have a lot of money right now. How expensive is it to send a package over? I wonder if the USO is still doing care packages?
  21. Krupin's on Wisconsin sells them. I don't know if they are any good though
  22. If I eat a tuna fish sandwhich twice in a year that is a lot. Except when I was at sleep away camp. We would go for a three day hike every session and for lunch we could choose between warm processed cheese sandwhiches or tuna fish on wheat. Tuna was the lesser of two evil, but not by much. But after four or five hours of hiking, it is amazing how good tuna can taste.
  23. I always called her "Bitchy Scissors." What a snerky little creature. Ugh.
  24. That's what I figured. I would rather take the $60 and get one bottle. Or go have a lobster burger somewhere Edited because I cant spellll
