If I hadn't spent the day on a couch at Mayorga I would have said it first Not to mention that she THREE blocks from one of DC's major tourist attractions, dead animals or not! Whatever happened to keeping the customer happy?

eG FoodBlog: Mayhaw Man - I eat more than Okra

You're playing pretty dirty MM. First the crawfish and now those tomotos!!! You have only yourself to blame if random eg'ers show up at your front door demanding mudbugs and tomatos. Do you know how cold it is up here? It's snowing in some places. And you're eating tomatos!!! That look like that!!!! I laughed out loud after reading your relay of tonight's shooting. I used to get those looks all the time from my students. That's when you know you are doing something right -
For those of you who couldn't make it into the city, here is a glimps of what you missed. Taken across the street from the Eastern Market. If the wind dies down there will be more to follow....

Salmon is better than what some of my vegetarian friends serve ... lots of vegetable casseroles .... just not the same as a brisket swimming in its own gravy ... Salmon is a hard fought win in the carnivores v. herbavores at our seder. I almost got brisket for tomorrow night, but now it's lamb. Fortunately it's dman good lamb, not paschal in the least

Yes to the onion, EVOO and corriander and extra cooking. No to the butter (unless they are like my family where flavor comes before kosher) and cumin. I'm very jealous. We're having salmon tonight

Beautiful Ronnie! How does it taste? One questions, did you have fish heads in while the ball were cooking? Couldn't tell from the pic.

Mazel Tov!!!! Your house is absolutely beautiful. I love the history behind it. Do you know the people who live in it's twin? Alright, now that I am absolutely craving good crawfish (which I don't think I have ever had) I want pictures. Show us northerners what we are missing. BTW, how did your sone do with the lemonade stand? -
Will this work?

I am in hysterics over this comment!! My mother makes a point of remarking to guests that it was my father's family introduced the shmushing to our family So, is this meant to imply that it is a genetically acquired trait passed down on one's paternal side of the family? Or, rather a learned behavior? The scientist in me wants to know the details ... lest it be mentioned at our dysfunctional but oh so p.c. seder!! Learned Behavior Currently being passed down to the fourth generation. My mother has reminded us (my father and I) that there we are hosting strangers at our second seder and to break them in gently. It must be almost passover because I am now craving matzah brie with sugar and cinnamon. So who puts an orange on their sedar plate?

I have a little bit of an idea of what I'm in for. I think these people do a bit of a Reader's Digest Condensed version, so perhaps I'll be spared. It really is not that bad, Al .... It is just a story, some blessings, and then one can eat .. obviously, this will be the Cliff Notes version so they'll skip the part that drags after dinner, hopefully .. then it all ends mercifully with a hearty "Next year in Jerusalem" ... you might even enjoy it!! Especially if there are kids around. So (said in her best jewish grandmother voice) which recipes did you decide on?

If I can figure it out, you can Mmmmmm, a week of mudbugs. Sure, make the rest of use feel bad that we don't live down there. -
Feel free to PM me if you are going to come. I can't promise I will do the spectacular job of organizing that JU did, but I will try to live up to her standards. Everyone is welcome, the more the merrier

If someone did do this we should have a camera ready so that we could document the reaction! Don't worry, I'll bring the vibrating camera Sorry, you don't have any say in the matter. If you must you can stick to the Hong Kong dumpling soup. (Nobody tell her there's shrimp in it ) Okay, so we are on for Thursday, April 22 at the Full Key. Does 7 work? If we go much earlier I will probably be late.

Since you sat at the wrong end of the table Wedneday night, I will continue my campaign for the savory brisket here. Savory brisket and Manashevitz (how do you spell it anyway ) go much better than fruit! Proportion wise, keep in mind that nothing is better than leftover brisket. While the rest of us suffer with matzah you can enjoy it on rye. It also freezes very well. I am now in a fight with my mother 'cause she wants to make lamb and I am craving brisket, no thanks to this thread The onions, by the way, are as good as any confit or carmilization. mmmmmm Has anyone walked you threw the seder? The hours of sitting with food in front of you and not being able to eat it?

I'm drawing a total blank on the name, but what about the place on the Hill down the street from the Folger?
-
We do the same thing, except my family is too lazy to dice it up. We just shmush it around in the salt water. My mother found no yolk, low carb, passover friendly noodles to go into the soup I am making. Has anyone tried them? I am fearing wet, limp cardboard.

Yes!!! I had the arugula procuitto pizza and except for the burnt parts on the crust, the whole thing was floppy. The crust was way to thin. Tasted good but still disappointing. It also does not reheat well at all

I wasn't as good as Jenny about documenting my photos, so you all have to label your own dinner Calamari with spicy tomato sauce Cheese plate pasta pizza meatball pizza unbelievable nuttela filled donuts (which I am now craving)

I love Busboy's emporer's meal idea. He gets choice seating at our next event. I propose Thursday, April 22nd? Can someone do a little research into where we could do one that is Metro accessible? Does Full Key (yes I am stuck on that place, craving the soup as we speak) have one?
-
I agree that a cheaper venue is in order. What about Full Key or Mark's Duck House for dim sum? Weeknights do not work best for me. Would someone be willing to host an eg/Iron Chef event? I wuld but you won't all fit in my apartment

Since mnebergall has already brought it up....... As I promised this evening, here is the thread for the next EGDC event. I propose either Friday April 23rd or Saturday the 24th. You have almost a month to free your schedules so no excuses will be accepted, especially from those of you who bailed on us this evening. Firefly or Nectar were thrown out as suggestions. My only request is that you keep us budget conscious egulleteers in mind. Discuss.

Can anyone recommend a good Korean place in Wheaton or Rockville? The strip malls seem full of them, but I have no idea what is good.

I want to be the first to thank Jenny for organizing tonight dinner. It was a wonderufl evening, even if I am still getting over the shock of putting names to handles We had a wonderful evening, even if we did have to tell the waiter there was no need to explain coppino. For those of you who couldn't join us (or left) we hope to see you at out next gathering. Stay tuned for details for our next egdc event, sometime in April, but not in the next 1 1/2 hours! DCMark, I promise to tell you my antiNCLB schpiel at the next dinner Edited to add: I'll get my pictures posted in by the end of the weekend, even if we didn't make Fg and Jason a video

At first read, I thought you said: "Lay the brisket on top and smother with marijuana." That would make for a much more interesting Seder Beats 5 cups of wine any night. BTW Al, many modern seders include a 6th cup in honor of Miriam in case you need it!
