Were you reading my mind? I was wondering the same thing!

My Rabbi would be so proud

Does anyone work during Mardi Gras? Are the schools open? The pics from your town parade were great. It is cold and rainy here as well. Pictures of your town in the sun were just what I needed.

There is a puddle of drool just below my space bar. ps, what's a helado?

That's so cool. Do you go to church just to get your food blessed or do you have a service as well? I can just imagine everyone trying to pray with big baskets of food at their feet. It's interesting, although not surprising, that Ukrainians use horseradish at Easter. It plays a major part of the Passover Seder. (By the way, if I remember my Hebrew correctly, seder is the Hebrew word for order. Bloviatrix, am I close?)

I think Brazil may have been one of Tony's favorite binges. Good luck finding it if you haven't seen it already. Such luck! (Mmm, he ate lots of food on the beach, lots of meat, and fejoda in the 'hood. What else...) Oh yeah, the Speedo visuals. It's all coming back to me. Ahhh, the speedo image was stuck in my head for way too long. Now it's back. Thanks for all the links. I'll check them out this evening. We will definately make the doce de leite and put it in hot milk! The beans and rice are also in, I got a simple recipe off a teacher web site. Any unusual items I should know about? Keep the ideas coming! Thanks By the way, do you think Tony would come give a lecture on the eating habits of Brazillians? Or perhaps the proper way to wear a speedo?

Is it possible that there is a Cook's Tour I haven't seen? In Mexico he ate crickets, which would be great, but I don't think my principal would go for it I found a recipe that appears to be similiar to Dulce de Leche. Is it used in Brazil? I also found a recipe using black beans, which would be good since it is a familiar food. Any thoughts?

You still have to wonder though, why they still make so many mistakes? This is an established restaurant with a local celebrity chef. Why does the public put up with the gliches and come back for more? I'm hesitant to go for dinner since it seems that mistakes/problems are so common. babka, in your case I understand your love with the place. It is part of your history. But for the average diner? I'm undecided.

We're not letting you get off that easily You should start with something simple, like a twice baked or roasted potatoes. In fact, now I am craving roasted Yukons!

He's not just some dumb, he's plum dumb.

We will all be eating virtually threw you in Barcelona. How exciting! For those of us who have no idea about the award ceremony, could you tell us about it? Loving the blog

There is too much of a good thing, but only for a little while Give it a few months, you'll be craving them all over again.

What's the difference between a cheesesteak and a cheesesteak hogie? I thought hoagies were the same thing as subs. By the way, as a DC native I vote against surf n' turf and half smokes.

My class has left the desert and Egypt and moved on to the rainforest and Brazil. My kids already want to know what we are going to eat. I have a small list started, but I find better answers here. So if you were a 10 year old kid in Brazil what would you eat? What wouldn't you eat? What can I bring in to freak 'em out again? (Between sushi and Egyptian eggs, I have a reputation to uphold here!) As always, my students and I thank you!

So? How did it go? Are you sick of oysters yet? Are your hands still functioning? I've been craving oysters ever since you started this thread!

About 15 years ago there used to be a French/Japanese restaurant on Capitol Hill right on Pennsylvania Ave. All I remember is that the food was amazing, they had oyster sushi and great desserts.

Donughts and vodka and an amazing meal out somewhere with girlfriends Take care of yourself and feel better!

I found a wonderful little gourmet shop in Bethesda today. Cornucopia on Norfolk Ave. across from the Duron Paint store. They have an amazing selection of pasta and canned tomatoes from Italy. There are a variety of Italian meats, as well as a Duck Proscuitto that I have to go back and try. The pastries looked beautiful, and I imagine that if you get there earlier there is a good selection of fresh baked breads. The cheese selection was smaller, but still very nice. They also have an olive bar. As I type I am eating a procuitto and provolone sandwhich. There are about 1/2 dozen different "specialty" sandwhiches. There is a roast beef and gorganzola and I will be trying in the next few weeks. A block or two down there is a new chocolate shop, but I haven't check it out yet. Anyone tried it?

Beautiful pics. Are these recent? There are a number of dishes that I didn't have a week ago. Then again I'm not FG and Jose wasn't there. What was inside the lightbulb?

That cake is beautiful!!! Much better than the kid made chocolate cupcake I got I can't believe all that sashimi was less than $20. The uni and ikura alone would cost $20. My mouth is watering. Nothing I eat is going to be good unless it's sushi! By the way Soba, wasabi in a tube is available at most Asian markets in the US.

I grew up across the street from the parade grounds of The President's Own Marine Corps Band. From Memorial to Labor day I awoke to their rehersals But in an ironic twist of timing, my family was usually eating Shabbat dinner just as the parade got into full swing. There are a number of Sousa marches that make me think of roasted chicken.
-
I've hear the same story. Take away? Where did you grow up?
-
Did you see the episodes with Flay? It's doomed. As for shows that travel abroad or come home, some US versions translate well. Trading Spaces comes to mind. The ironic thing about Coupling not succeeding is that the British version is based on Friends.

That's so cool. I loved my instructor. She was this wonderful woman named Catherine. She was my Julia Child. About ten years later I took another course and she was the instructor. It was so cool to show off what she had taught me! Let me know if you want to put together a cooking course on your own. I know a ton of kids.
