  1. bacon and onion is my favorite. quiche is a healthy low-carb, high fat, medium protein food. only thing better is just plain old rashers of bacon.
  2. i'm confused. what was the reason behind all this drama?
  3. the snipped fleck would look good, or even a bit all across the top, perhaps for a different flavor. i'll have to be honest and say i haven't made cookies at christmas time since i left my mom's house. my roommate was planning a cookie extravaganza since we've got a kitchen we can actually cook in now, but she's trying to lean out for a comp, and i restrict my carbs on a regular basis, so it would be too much temptation to start baking. I do want to make some peppermint bark tho, to give away. when i used to do the cookie extravaganza, i typically made a spritz cookie, a thumbprint, chocolate chip variants, a couple of different fudges, and pizelles.
  4. nice to see y'all here, you two.
  5. me either. it is possible the coconut is starting to rot, or that you are allergic, or perhaps it's burning a bit.
  6. the hot pink one.
  7. ah - yeah - actually i was thinking these recipes were used by the common-folk as well, and was wondering where they got such exotic items as galangal and coriander. *lol* ( i was thinking to myself - damn - those spice routes really were something back then!)
  8. nice work, gg!
  9. so you've actually cooked these recipes then? how do they taste? i'm surprised to see so many varied spices, actually, and i see a lot of mixing of savory and sweet.
  10. ya gotta love the SCA.
  11. When I lived in Israel, I had a good friend who originally hailed from Louisiana. It was really funny to hear him speak Hebrew with his drawl. The waiters, used to orders coming in "chick-chock" (hebrew euphemism for speedy) would go nuts when he ordered as everything was done nice 'n slow. that i've gotta hear. must be as amusing, if not more than spanish spoken in a chinese accent.

    Latkes - the Topic!

Imagine hashbrown, flavored with pure chicken fat and onions. i don't think i've tasted anything flavored with chickenfat. (lipton noodle soup maybe) in any case, i'm going to have to find some jewish friends here in Atlanta.

    Latkes - the Topic!

i don't think i've ever had a latke (which is surprising to me actually). does it taste similar to a hashbrown?
  14. have any of you ever read "Drawing of the Dark" by Tim Powers? Beer is sort of a central character of the book.

    Tahiti Treat

  16. oooohhh...yeah that's a bad sign.
  17. wait...what do you mean?
  18. At the risk of causing more trouble, might I add... Any Thai restaurant named "The King and I" should be avoided at all costs. the king and i in atlanta is pretty decent. so is taste of india tandoori restaurant as a matter of fact. which by all accounts is a triple whammy. they're doomed. but madonna still eats there.

    Bagged Teas

yay free samples! i'll have to try out the yogi tea - I hope they don't send herbal samples tho - i've got more herbs than i can shake a stick at right now.
  25. i lived on that in college. my hangover cure for about noon, after missing morning classes was a 32oz to-go cup filled with ice, and hot coffee poured over the ice until it was chilled, but still cubey. i then added half n half, put the lid on and shook. the real b*tch is the sugar tho - it always stays crystal in the bottom. so i learned to live with unsweetened cafe au lait.
