Yesterday's fish share delivery brought the dreaded pollock. I made it into a spicy stir fry with broccoli. It was OK, but I really do not like pollock.

It is a Meera Sodha recipe from her cookbook Fresh India. It was republished on Epicurious: https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/paneer-butter-masala I leave the almonds off because there are pistachios in the maharajah rice (also a recipe from Fresh India)

Dinner was messed up last night. The original plan was to get sushi take-out since that is my niece's favorite food and she returned to college today, but the restaurant was unexpectedly closed. So, then I decided to cook dinner, but right as I went in to the kitchen, the power went out! We finally got it back a few hours later, and by then everyone was starving, the house was cold, and it was too late to cook the meal I had planned. So niece got banana pancakes and bacon, nephew got quick ground beef tacos and black beans from the freezer, and I made a simple tomato-ricotta pasta for my sister, my husband and me.

Assuming my nephew's COVID test comes back negative later today, it will just be me, my husband, and my sister, so I am not making a lot. My husband asked for buffalo wings, which my sister and I don't eat, so I am also going to make a vegetable pizza. We still follow Tom Brady even though he abandoned us 😉 so I guess we will root halfheartedly for Tampa Bay.

I am not sure why we got different results on the cragginess. Maybe it was the fish I used? This time I used sole, and it was so fresh it curled up while frying. I have never tried the batter on shrimp. As much as I like shrimp, I cannot cook it at home any more because my nephew moved in with me (when he is not at college) when the pandemic started, and he has an anaphylactic allergy to crustaceans. Last night, we had miso salmon ramen Except for my quarantined nephew. He hates salmon, so I slipped a meatball sub into the quarantine ward 🙂

@Kim Shook we had fish and chips last night too! I made a purple cabbage-apple slaw to go with it. And I also prefer London Pub brand of malt vinegar.

Vegetable fried rice, sesame chicken wings, cream cheese rangoons, and egg roll stuffed with carrots and kohlrabi

Cauliflower gratin, spinach, and crispy chicken with mushroom sauce And for my quarantined nephew, who hates both mushrooms and cauliflower, chicken parmesean

Spicy ground turkey stir fry with crispy garlic and ginger. We all liked the flavor but thought the dish needed more vegetables.

@Kim Shook I almost made that sausage and apple recipe last night too! But, I ended up going for just plain broiled sausages, with some spaetzle, applesauce and braised red cabbage. Right when I was getting ready to make dinner I got a text from my nephew that he was being sent home from college to quarantine because one of his coworkers in the dining hall tested positive for COVID. I had one hour to get part of my house ready for him to stay in. I am lucky that I can close off a part of my house so he can quarantine comfortably without interacting with anyone, but it was still stressful running around (and I forgot some stuff in my second now off limits kitchen that I wish I had brought over). This dinner was a lot easier than my original plan.

For the past couple of weeks, on Saturday I use the website random.country to choose a cuisine to try. This week I got Morocco. I made seven vegetable couscous and khobz. The vegetables are onion, garlic, cauliflower, turnip, carrot, cabbage and tomato (a fruit but I am counting it to get to seven). The dish also has chickpeas, golden raisins and cilantro.

Cheese souffle and a vegetable toast recipe that came with this week's CSA delivery. It's lightly pickled watermelon radishes, apples, onions, turnips and carrots on toast spread with a pea shoot aioli. We all liked it.
